The Southeast European nation of Montenegro is the smallest sovereign country to emerge from the breakup of Yugoslavia in the early 1990s, excluding partially recognized Kosovo. It was also the last to become fully independent; Montenegro was initially part of Serbia and broke off to become its own country following a 2006 referendum. With fewer than 1 million inhabitants and a land area of just under 14k square km (just over 5k square mi), the country sits on the Adriatic sea (part of the Mediterranean) bordering several of the other former Yugoslavian countries plus Albania. The country features both steep mountains and a spectacular seashore, punctuated by ancient fortress towns and some of Europe's best-known monasteries. As would be expected, the aerial views of this paradise are spectacular, as you will see in this incredible collection of drone videos.
