Canyon Tara winter 2022 in Montenegro

The Tara River Canyon is 60 kilometers long and the second largest in the world after the Colorado River Canyon in the United States, and the first in Europe. Its average depth is 1073 meters, and the maximum is 1333 meters. It is the deepest near Obzir (1250 - 1300 m), and it is 60 km long. This is one of the rare oases of untouched nature and a reserve for many endemic species of plants and animals, which is why in 1977 it was inscribed in the UNESCO program "Man and the Biosphere" as an exceptional geomorphological and ecological entity. A special tourist attraction is rafting on the Tara. Tara, the river called "Tears of Europe", adorns and glorifies the already beautiful Montenegro. The beautiful and clear green Drina would certainly not be such that it does not originate from Tara (and Piva)… Tara is both clear and drinkable, mountainous… let's freely add all known epithets, we will not exaggerate… However, what Tara is most famous for is its magnificent canyon !! Tara Canyon is known as the deepest in Europe and ranks second on the planet in silver. The only one that is bigger and more famous is the canyon of the Colorado River in North America. However, I dare to sign that our (whatever that sounds to) Tara is much more beautiful than Colorado. Compared to the famous desert Colorado, Tara Canyon is extremely lively, green and lush, rich in evergreen and deciduous flora. The water in the canyon and along the entire course of the river is of the first category and is completely drinkable! About eighty caves are known in the canyon, which are still insufficiently explored, and in some of them the existence of traces of life in prehistory has been established. Tara Canyon is one of the local oases of untouched nature and is a reserve for many endemic and relict species of plants and animals. All this was reason enough for UNESCO and its Man and the Biosphere program to be adorned with this emerald gem since 1977. A few years later, in 1980, together with the Durmitor National Park, it was on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It should be emphasized that Tara fulfilled as many as three conditions: geological, hydrological and biological phenomena (only one is enough for entry in the list). The canyon is 60 km long in total and its average depth is 1073 meters, in some places 1300 meters. The greatest measured depth of the canyon is 1333 meters.
