Drone Videos of Famous Movie Locations

Fly above the real-life filming locations of some of Hollywood’s most famous movies including - “Mad Max: Fury Road” (2015), “Lawrence Of Arabia” (1962), “Batman: The Dark Night Rises” (2012), “Star Wars: Episode Ii Attack Of The Clones” (2002), “Casino Royale” (2006), “Ocean’s 12” (2004), “Man On Fire” (2004), “The Beach” (2000), “Mamma Mia” (2008), and more!

Contributor Sjoerdbracke used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this spectacular bird's eye view of  Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in the Hunan province of central China.  The park is known for its unique rock pillar formations, which earned it a UNESCO World Heritage natural site designation.  China's first national park, it is now one of several in an area known as the Wulingyuan Scenic District.   The park was the primary shooting location for James Cameron's 2009 film Avatar, still the highest-grossing film of all time.  

The Fox Plaza building is situated in Century City, a sort of "satellite downtown" for LA's West Side, near the interchange between the Santa Monica and San Diego Freeways.  Built on an old 20th Century Fox backlot, Century City is generally regarded as the capital of the worldwide entertainment industry.  Fitting, then, that Fox Plaza was the scene of the finale of Die Hard, the 1988 action blockbuster.  Contributor Mavictraveler created this drone video of the building, which was completed in 1987.    

Contributor and pilot Yapov brings us this beautiful drone video of the area around El Cotillo Beach on Fuerteventura, one of Spain's Canary Islands.  It's on the northwestern shore of the island, which lies near the western end of the chain.  The beach here was the primary shooting location for one of the more memorable scenes of 21st century film thus far: the (computer enhanced) "Parting of the Red Sea" sequence in Ridley Scott's Exodus: Gods and Kings, one of the biggest box office hits of 2014.

Contributor la.drones brought a drone along on a trek to the famous Boiling Lake on the island of Dominica.  It's in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, home to some of the finest hiking trails in the Caribbean.  The Boiling Lake is so called because of the greenish-blue bubbles which emanate from it.  In the video you'll get an aerial view of the lake, as well as other epic sights of Dominica, a primary filming location for the 2006 box-office smash film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

Prepare to be blown away by this drone video of a famous mountain pass in the Swiss Alps, compliments of top contributor Dronescapes by Atellani and his DJI Inspire 2 drone.  Furka Pass, lying at 2.4k meters (almost 8k ft.) in south central Switzerland, connects several towns in the area.  It was the shooting location of a memorable scene in the 1964 James Bond movie Goldfinger, in which 007 (played by Sean Connery) tries to chase down the antagonist in his Aston Martin DB5.  It was the third installment in the series.

Bolivia's Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat.  Victoraroundtheworld used his DJI Phantom 3 Advanced drone to take us on a tour of this amazing area which appears to be blanketed in white.  Located in the southwestern corner of the country, the flats are part of the Bolivian Altiplano, itself part of the Andes system.  Salar de Uyuni was used as a filming location for the Star Wars film the Last Jedi (2017), the eighth installment in the series; the flats "played the role" of Planet Crait.

Contributor Ryan Jones created this drone video of the Wyoming landmark, Devil's Tower, which is a rock formation in the northeast region near the Bear Lodge Mountains. The mountains are part of the Black Hills range of South Dakota, and the entire area is part of the Great Plains system which covers much of the west-central United States.  The unique inselberg or butte was featured prominently in the 1977 blockbuster movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind, including in its climactic final scene.  

Contributor and pilot mavictraveler used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone to create this video of Point Dume in Malibu, California.  Located on the north side of Santa Monica Bay west of Los Angeles, Point Dume is the site of one of the most iconic scenes in the history of cinema: the finale of the 1968 classic Planet of the Apes.   It was here that astronaut George Taylor (Charlton Heston) stumbles upon a destroyed Statue of Liberty and realizes that he has landed on a post-nuclear armageddon Planet Earth.    

The 2008 film Momma Mia, an adaptation of the 1999 Broadway musical based on the music of Swedish supergroup Abba, was one of the highest grossing musical films of all time.  Famously, much of the movie was filmed on the Greek island of Skopelos in the western Aegean Sea.  In this drone video by zahosstamoulis, you'll see one of the most recognizable filming locations of the movie: the Chapel of St. John, on the island's northeastern shore.  Perched atop a cliff, this was where the movie's climactic wedding scene took place.  

The west coast of the African nation Namibia is covered by the Namib Desert, which runs the length of the country's Atlantic coast. In this video, contributor and pilot Elevated Perspectives International gives us a bird's eye view of the mighty desert and includes footage of Sossusvlei, Cape Cross and Spitzkoppe.  The desert, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, was the primary shooting location for the movie Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), the fourth installment of the series.

Award-winning contributor Grim Berge created this amazing recreation of a scene from the 2018 blockbuster Mission: Impossible - Fallout from its original filming location.  Located in western Norway, Preikestolen, aka the Pulpit Rock, features a vertical cliff of over 600 meters (almost 2k ft.) down to the Lysefjorden.  Shot mainly with a DJI Inspire 2 drone, the video recreates an epic escape scene in the film, which was set in the Himalayas but was in fact filmed right here in Norway. 

The Yasawa Islands are some of the most well known amongst the hundreds which make up the South Pacific island nation of Fiji.  The chain begins to the northwest of the main island of Fiji and extend to the northeast.  These islands became very well known several decades ago when they were used as the primary shooting location for the 1980 blockbuster The Blue Lagoon, starring Brooke Shields.  In this video, you'll get a bird's eye view of the Yasawa's compliments of contributor and drone pilot Safi Dehili.

New contributor Chitchai Sripirom brings us this stunning drone video from a famous beach on an island in Southern Thailand.  The beach runs along Maya Bay on the island of Ko Phi Phi Lee, one of the main islands of the Phi Phi Archipelago in the Andaman Sea.  Located southeast of the somewhat better-known island of Phuket, the Phi Phi Islands are part of the province of Krabi.  Along with other spots on the island, Maya Bay was one of the primary filming locations for the 2000 adventure movie the Beach starring Leonard DiCaprio.  

Of all the depictions of Los Angeles in the movies, the dystopian LA in the "future year" of 2019 in the cult sci fi film Blade Runner is one of the most well known.  One of the most important filming locations for the 1982 movie was the Bradbury Building in downtown LA, which you'll see from above in this drone video by mavictraveler.  While it's appeared in other movies, the 1893 landmark is best known as the filming location for J.F. Sebastian's apartment where the movie's final, climactic scene occurs.

Top contributor NGreyTravels created this short-but-epic drone video of Monument Valley in the Southwestern USA, near the spot called Four Corners where four states come together: Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah.  Situated on the Colorado Plateau, the area is home to some of the most iconic scenery in the American West.  So much so that this very spot was used to film a famous scene in the 1994 film "Forrest Gump"; this was where Forrest (Tom Hanks) and his followers stopped after he "ran to the ocean".  

Contributor Hiro used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this bird's eye view of the Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia, near Siem Reap. Built in the 12th century, the world’s largest religious complex was once the center of a mighty empire that ruled over much of Southeast Asia. The temple had fallen into disuse during the Khmer Rouge reign of terror, and was "rediscovered" in part through the movies: the 2001 blockbuster Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, starring Angelina Joline, was mostly shot at the complex.

Cypress Point is the westernmost spot on California's Monterey Peninsula south of San Francisco.  The northern part of the point is occupied by Cypress Point Golf Club, considered one of the top courses in the US.  The southern part of the point is perhaps best known for appearing in one of the most iconic movies ever filmed in California - Alfred Hitchcock's 1958 masterpiece Vertigo, starring Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak.  You can get a bird's eye view of Cypress Point in this drone video by Caldroneflyer.

8 Fifty Productions created this beautiful drone video of Seaside, a quiet planned beach community on Florida's panhandle.  Situated in Walton County between the much better known Panama Beach City and Destin, it shares the very high ratio of boats to humans which is common in this part of the world.  Famously, Seaside was the primary filming location for The Truman Show, the 1998 sci-fi parody movie starring Jim Carey which was one of the most financially successful movies of the 1990's. 

Contributor Wasim Mazareh created this beautiful drone video of Echo Park Lake in the heart of Los Angeles, California.  Situated a short distance north of downtown and just west of Dodger Stadium, Echo Park is one of the most well known districts of central LA.  Located immediately to the north of the Hollywood Freeway, the lake was the filming location for one of the most memorable scenes in Roman Polanski's 1974 cinematic modern noir masterpiece Chinatown, starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway.  

The Italian island of Sicily will forever be associated with the Godfather trilogy, Francis Ford Coppola's masterpiece of organized crime.  The book from which the screenplay was adapted had scenes in the town of Corleone, but this was too developed by the early 1970's when the first installment was filmed.  Instead, filming took place in Savoca and Forza d’Agrò, in the Messina province.  Behold these magnificent Sicilian towns in this awesome drone video by contributor jone_83.

Contributor Liwanders brings us this beautiful drone's eye view of Baler, a beach town in the Philippines with a storied place in the world of film.  Baler is situated in the Aurora Province of east central Luzon, a 2-3 hour drive from Manila.  Famously, baler was the shooting location for one of the great scenes of 20th century film: the "Ride of the Valkyries" helicopter attack sequence in the 1979 epic  Apocalypse Now.  The movie helped turn Baler from an obscure beach town to the surfing capital of the Philippines.

Contributor Sky.shots brings us this awesome drone video of Griffith Observatory, one of the most iconic landmarks of Los Angeles.  Located in the Hollywood Hills near the famous Hollywood sign, the observatory has been allowing astronomers to gaze into the heavens since 1935.  The observatory has been used as a filming scene for numerous movies.  Most famously, the observatory was used to shoot the climactic scene of the 1955 classic film Rebel Without a Cause, starring James Dean and Natalie Wood. 

Contributor and pilot Mikel_julio used a DJI Mavic Pro Platinum to create this memorable aerial video of one of the best preserved fortresses in Spain.  The New Castle of Manzanares el Real is a 15th century fortified palace which is near the town of the same name in the Madrid Community in the center of the country.  Famously, the fortress was used as a shooting location for the 1961 film El Cid starring Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren.  Also known as the Castle of los Mendoza, the complex now also houses a museum.

For 40 years, the tallest building in Los Angeles was City Hall.  Completed in 1928, at the peak of the city's most frenetic decade of growth, the architectural masterpiece stands 138 meters (453 ft.) above the downtown streets.  It's been used as a filming location for many movies and TV series.  In its best-known movie appearance, City Hall "stood in" for police headquarters in the 1997 modern noir classic, LA Confidential.  You can see City Hall from a drone perspective in this video by mavictraveler.

Martha's Vineyard is a large island south of Cape Cod in Massachusetts, in the USA's New England region.  Accessible by ferry and by air, it is known as a summer getaway for wealthy families from New England, the Kennedy's being the most prominent of the island's summer residents.  Contributor Flying Films NY used a number of different DJI model drones to create this mesmerizing aerial portrait of this summer beach paradise, which was the main shooting location for the 1970's blockbuster movie Jaws.

Top contributor Jeff Walrich put together this excellent drone video showing how the city of Detroit, Michigan is undergoing an improbable urban renaissance.  Most of the video was filmed around the Corktown neighborhood, which is located between downtown and the Ambassador Bridge.  The video features some great footage of the most well-known Corktown landmark: the Michigan Central Station.  Opened in 1914 and once one of the busiest passenger train stations in the USA, it's now being redeveloped.

Contributor FreD used a drone to give us an aerial view of one of the most famous spots in New Zealand.  Matamata is a small town in the state of Waikato on the country's North Island.  Matamata achieved world renown as the closest town to a primary shooting location known as Hobbiton in the Lord of the Rings and later The Hobbit movie series. The area was "discovered" in the late 1990s via an aerial search during the pre-production phase of the Lord of the Rings series, one of the most lucrative franchises in cinematic history. 

Contributor and pilot D_Drone created this beautiful drone video of one of the most famous castles in Spain.  The Castle of Loarre is a Romanesque castle near the eponymously named town in Huesca in the Aragon region of northern Spain.  The castle was constructed in the 11th-12th centuries, when most of modern-day Spain was in Moorish hands and this area was at the frontier between Christian and Muslim Europe.  The castle "starred" in Ridley Scott's 2005 (semi-) historical epic Kingdom of Heaven.

In this video, content creator and pilot Dronesantana007 gives us an epic bird's eye view of the Austrian city Salzburg.  Salzburg is situated in the northern part of the country, on the border with Germany.  It is the fourth largest city in Austria.  One of Europe's great cultural cities, the center of Salzburg has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.  It is possibly most well known as the shooting location for the epic film The Sound of Music, winner of the Best Picture award at the 1965 Oscars.

AirVuz contributor Alessio Tricarico brings us this excellent drone video of the area around the Spanish Steps in Rome, one of the most recognized landmarks in the Eternal City.  The 135 steps connect the Piazza di Spagna with the church Trinità dei Monti at the top.  The steps have featured prominently in several important works of literature, most famously in F. Scott Fitzgerald's Tender is the Night.  More recently, it was the filming location for an epic chase scene in the 2023 blockbuster Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning.

The Marina Bay Sands is probably the most recognizable sight in Singapore.  Opened in 2010, the integrated casino resort may have been the most expensive ever built.  Its significance to the Singapore cityscape made it a natural shooting location for one of the most important scenes in the 2018 blockbuster film Crazy Rich Asians.  In this video, you'll get a bird's eye view of this resort with its famous artificial tree "forest" known as the Gardens by the Bay, courtesy of contributor Jeric Saniel.

One of the more prominent landmarks of Boston, Massachusetts is the gold-domed Massachusetts State House.  The state capitol, it is situated in the Beacon Hill neighborhood, just off the Boston Common.  Its cornerstone was laid in 1795 by none other than Paul Revere.  The iconic-looking landmark has appeared in numerous feature movies, most notably in the 2006 Academy Award winner The Departed; the dome is visible from the apartment of "bad cop" Colin Sullivan, played by Boston native Matt Damon.  

Contributor Hamed.razzaghi created this memorable drone video of a spot on Gran Canaria in Spain's Canary Islands. Maspaloma is a town on the southern coast of the island, which lies in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean archipelago.  It is surrounded by an arid area of other-worldly beauty.  Moviegoers may see some familiar territory here; the Maspaloma sand dunes were used to film the 2010 blockbuster action movie Clash of the Titans, which grossed nearly a half billion dollars at the box office.

In this video, you'll get an aerial tour of the fraternity and sorority houses of the University of Oregon at Eugene, compliments of contributor GoDucks.  Situated due south of the state capital at Salem, the university was founded in 1876.  It's a major research institution, and with enrollment of about 24,000, it's one of the largest universities in the Pacific Northwest.  Famously, the university and its fraternity houses were used as shooting locations for the 1978 blockbuster Animal House.

Wadi Rum is a desert valley lying in the southern portion of the Middle Eastern nation of Jordan.  Known for its spectacular rock formations, it was chosen as the primary shooting location for the legendary 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia starring Peter O'Toole. In later years, Wadi Rum "stood in" for the desert moon of Jedha in the 2015 Star Wars film The Force Awakens and the 2019 installment, the Rise of Luke Skywalker.  Award-winning contributor Fabio Knoll created this marvelous drone's eye view of the great desert.   

Located about 45 km (around 30 mi.) southwest of Boston, the Medfield State Hospital once had a more foreboding (and now politically incorrect) name: the Medfield Insane Asylum.  Opened in the early 20th century, the facility once housed over 2k patients.  Closed since 2003, the site is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places.  It's appeared in a number of feature movies, most notably in Robert Scorsese's 2010 psychological thriller Shutter Island starring Leonard DiCaprio.

Minneapolis, Minnesota, has long had an active live music scene, in keeping with its reputation as a major arts city.  The center of gravity of its music world is the First Avenue & 7th Street Entry Nightclub, shown here in this video by Gopherdrone. Located downtown, the club has served as the launching pad for numerous Minneapolis musicians and bands.  It's most famously associated with the career of the late international pop star Prince, whose 1984 movie Purple Rain extensively featured the club.  

Contributor and pilot Travel Imagez created this amazing aerial view of the Batad Rice Terraces in central Luzon, Philippines.  The Batad are part of the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras, which has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.  The age of these terraces isn't known exactly but is believed to be as old as 2,000 years.  Moviegoers may recognize the Batad; the famous rice terraces made an appearance in the ending scene of the 2018 blockbuster film Avengers: Infinity War.

Top contributor Jeff Walrich created this magnificent drone video from Smith Mountain Lake, a well known reservoir lake in the Roanoke Region of western Virginia.  Situated in a valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains (part of the Appachians), the 20k+ acre lake was created with the completion of the Smith Mountain Dam in the early 1960's.  The picturesque lake has appeared in a number of movies and TV shows, notably as a "stand-in" for New Hampshire's Lake Winnipesaukee in the 1991 comedy "What about Bob?".

Contributor duluthaerial used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 to aerially film the famed Split Rock Lighthouse on the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota.  Completed in 1910, the landmark regularly appears atop lists of the USA's most iconic lighthouses.  It sits atop a cliff about an hour's drive north of Duluth, on a stretch of the lake which was at one time considered quite treacherous for shipping.  Retired in 1969, the lighthouse made an appearance as a filming location for the 2013 blockbuster The Great Gatsby.

Among the permanent casualties in New Orleans from Hurricane Katrina is the former Six Flags Amusement Park.  Situated in New Orleans East, the park opened on a 140 acre site in 2002.  It has been closed since the historic storm and subsequent flooding devastated the city in August, 2005.   In the mean time, it's been used to film a number of feature movies and TV shows, most famously the 2015 sci-fi blockbuster Jurassic World.  You can see this eery reminder of pre-Katrina New Orleans in this drone video by Bumble Bee Productions.  

One of the most prominent of Boston's many parks  is the Boston Public Gardens, which is located adjacent to the Boston Common just outside of the core Financial District of New England's largest city.    One of the great green spaces of this historic city, the Garden has made numerous movie appearances, most notably as the filming scene of a famous monologue by actor Robin Williams in the 1997 modern classic Good Will Hunting.  Check out the Public Garden from above in this drone video by pilgrimdroner. 

The island of Ischia sits at the northern approaches to the Gulf of Naples in Southern Italy, roughly opposite the smaller island of Capri.  In this drone video by CH drone, you'll get  a bird's eye view of the legendary destination, including the square of Ischia Pont, and the nearby Aragonese Castle, which sits atop an islet connected to the main island via a stone bridge.  This area was a primary filming location for the 1999 movie the Talented Mr. Ripley starring Matt Damon, an adaptation of a 1950's novel.

TampaRandy created this marvelous drone video involving the Durango & Silverton Railroad, a historical (narrow-gauge) line in southwestern Colorado.   Opened in 1882, the railroad once used to hauling gold and silver ore out of the San Juan Mountains is now a major tourist attraction.  And filming location: it was used to film the famous train heist sequence in the 1969 classic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and years later to film another famous train heist scene in the TV show Breaking Bad. 

Kairouan is one of the cultural gems of the North African country of Tunisia.  Seen in this drone video, it's the capital of the province of the same name in the northeastern part of the country.  Founded n the 7th century, it occupies an important position in the worldwide religion of Islam.  Kairouan has also made its way into popular culture via the movies: the city "played the role" of 1930's Cairo in the 1981 blockbuster Raiders of the Lost Ark, the inaugural film of the Indiana Jones series.

Triton's Fountain is an important landmark in the city of Valletta, the capital of the island nation of Malta.  The fountain opened in 1959, a few years before Malta achieved its independence from the UK.  It's located near the City Gate, which has been reconstructed several times but which dates to the founding of the city by the Knights of St. John in the 16th century.  The fountain was used to film a scene in the apocalyptic blockbuster World War Z starring Brad Pitt, one of the highest-grossing films of 2013.

Didori Villa is nestled on the edge of a small Balinese village surrounded by rice fields near the upland town of Ubud.  Advertised as a spiritual and tranquil haven, top contributor jantrnkaproductions collaborated with the resort management to create this marvelous travel video which incorporates both ground camera and drone footage.  The villa was used in the filming of the 2010 movie “Eat, Pray, Love” starring Julia Roberts, a screenplay adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's bestselling memoir.  

Prepare to be amazed by this aerial video from the ancient Italian town of Matera by AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Galax.  One of the oldest continuously settled cities in the world, Matera is located on the banks of the Gravina River in the Basilicata region near the "ankle" of Peninsular Italy.  The well-preserved town has appeared as a filming location for numerous feature movies, "playing the role" of Jerusalem in the 2004 epic the Passion of the Christ and later starring in the 2021 James Bond movie No Time to Die.

Contributor Theperspectiveexperiment created this beautiful aerial view of a famous glen (or valley) in the Scottish Highlands.  Glen Coe is in the western Highlands, just north of Argyll.  Glen Coe's profile has increased considerably since it became the ancestral home of MI6 Agent 007 in Skyfall, the 2012 installment of the James Bond series, the 25th in the series.  The video even shows the exact spot where Bond (played by Dan Craig) and M (played by Judy Dench) stand and look out over the valley.

One of the top attractions in the northern part of the Mediteranean island of Malta is a 40 year old movie set near the town of Mellieħa.  It's called Popeye Village in honor of the 1979 movie which was filmed here - Robert Altman's adaptation of the Popeye comic strip.  While the movie had mixed box office success, it will be forever known as the first starring movie role for the late Robin Williams, considered one of the greatest actors of his generation.  Check out Popeye Village from above in this drone video by TravelPenguin.  

Contributor Jone_83 gives us an amazing bird's eye look at Malta's famed Blue Lagoon in this epic drone video.  The lagoon sits between the small island of Comino and the even smaller island of Cominoto.  These islands sit between the main island of Malta and Gozo, the country's second island.  Here you will get a glimpse of the sailboats and yachts of Europe's superrich floating in these crystal blue waters.  These waters "stood in" for ancient Troy in the 2004 blockbuster of the same name, starring Brad Pitt. 

Check out this beautiful drone video of a famous river canyon in the mountains of northern Georgia, compliments of contributor JerzDrone.  Tallulah Gorge is formed by a river of the same name in the North Georgia Mountains, part of the Appalachian chain.  The canyon is 3 km (around 2 mi.) long and up to 300 meters (1k ft) deep, and features a series of waterfalls.  One of the official Seven Wonders of Georgia, the gorge and falls were used to film a portion of the classic 1972 thriller Deliverance. 

Contributor and pilot Chris Short used a DJI Phantom 4 drone to create this stunning video of one of the most beautiful sights of the English southern coast.  The Seven Sisters are a series of chalk cliffs in East Sussex, between the towns of Eastbourne and Seaford.  They are part of the South Downs complex of hills and cliffs which cover a portion of the coast of Southeastern England.  Harry Potter fans may recognize these cliffs; they appeared in a scene of the Goblet of Fire (2005), #4 in the series.    

RJurevics created this beautiful DVOW-nominated video from New Zealand, the product of six months of travel through its North Island. The video uses drone footage (including timelapses) with a bit of ground camera footage to capture some epic views of the island, forever associated with the Lord of the Rings movie series.  One of the video's highlights is some rare footage of the Putangirua Pinnacles, a "badlands" area on Palliser Bay which appeared in Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003).  

Seen here in this drone video by contributor Lone Star Drones, the USS Texas is one of the USA's most storied warships.  The only surviving US Navy Dreadnought style warship, it was launched on the eve of World War I and saw extensive combat in both World Wars.  Since 1947, she's been a floating museum, docked in the Houston Ship Channel just below the San Jacinto Monument.  The ship has appeared in a number of movies, notably as one of the main filming locations for the 2001 quasi-historical film Pearl Harbor.  

Contributor Enviesdailleurs.eu used a drone to create memories of an amazing trip across Europe.  This episode covers the Slovenia portion of the trip.  Using a DJI Phantom 4 drone, he takes us around Soca Valley, Jasna Lake, Vrsic Pass, Piran, and the famous Bled Lake.  If the Soca Valley footage at the beginning of the video looks familiar, you may have seen it in the movies: the valley  was utilized as a primary shooting location for the 2007 blockbuster Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

The Teatro Massimo Vittorio Emanuele opera house is one of the great cultural landmarks of Palermo, the capital of Italy's Sicily region.  Opened in 1897, it's the third-largest in Europe after the opera houses of Paris and Vienna.  Inspired by ancient Sicilian architecture, the opera house was designed by the famous Italian architect Giovan Battista Filippo Basile.  Seen here in this outstanding drone video by Sphereview, the theater was the filming location for the final scenes of the Godfather: Part III (1990).

Top contributor Boyanoo brings us this outstanding drone video of the fabled Greek island of Mykonos.  The video opens with a great shot of the Little Venice neighborhood of the island's namesake main town; this was the filming location for the final scene of the 2002 thriller Bourne Identity.  From there, you'll be treated to some great shots of other built-up areas on the island's western side, its more secluded northern beaches, and the legendary aquatic recreation scene here in the western Aegean Sea.  

Founded in 1871, Smith College in central Massachusetts is a member of the Seven Sisters group of elite New England women's' colleges. In 2018, Smith was ranked #11 in the US News & World Report liberal arts college survey. Smith's Northampton campus can be seen from above in this drone video by pilgrimdroner.  It was, famously, the primary filming location for the movie adaptation of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe", starring the great (on-off) Hollywood power couple of Liz Taylor and Richard Burton.   

Check out this fascinating if rather haunting drone video of a "boat graveyard" in New York City, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot Santiago.  It's located on a tidal river known as Arthur Kill, which separates Staten Island from mainland New Jersey.  The site was established in the 1930's and has undergone a number of name changes; it's now officially known as the Donjon Iron and Metal Scrap Processing Facility.  The facility was used as a filming location for the 2010 thriller "Salt" starring Angelina Jolie.

Wellesley College is an all-women's liberal arts college based in suburban Boston, Massachusetts.  It's one of the Seven Sisters, a prestigious group of women's colleges founded in the 19th century.  In the 2019, US News & World Report college rankings, Wellesley was tied for third amongst the liberal arts schools.  The Wellesley campus was the setting and filming location for the 2003  romance movie Mona Lisa Smile starring Julia Roberts.  Check out Wellesley from above in this drone video by pilgrimdroner.    

Brand-new AirVuz contributor and pilot Above Summit brings us this fantastic drone video of Boston's Fenway Park, home of Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox.  The video was shot on the snowy opening day of the 2019 season, which was (fortunately) an "away" game for the Sox.  Opened in 1912, MLB's oldest ballpark is also one of its smallest, with a seating capacity of only 37k.  Located in the Fenway-Kenmore neighborhood along the Charles River, the park was the filming location for the climax of the crime thriller the Town (2010).

Contributor Where-is-Fab created this amazing drone video of one of the top hiking trails in South America.  He and a group of friends tackled the "W" circuit at the Torres del Paine National Park in Chilean Patagonia.  The park is one of the larger tourist attractions in Chile, receiving about a quarter million visitors per year, many of whom are foreigners.  The stunning beauty of the area has caught the eye of filmmakers; Torres del Paine was a filming location for the 2012 action movie Wrath of the Titans.

Check out this drone video of the ancient El Jem amphitheater in North Africa, compliments of Fabio Knoll.  The amphitheatre El Jem was built in 238 AD in present-day El Djem, which lies along the country's eastern Mediterranean coastline and was part of the Roman province of Africa.  Seating an estimated 35k spectators, it was one of the largest in the world.  Considered one of the best-preserved Roman ruins in Africa, the amphitheater was used to film the 1979 comedy classic, Monty Python's Life of Brian.  

AirVuz contributor and pilot Jason Sturgess brings us this excellent drone video of the well-known Wardour Castle in South West England.  Situated in County Wiltshire (not far from Salisbury), the castle dates to the 14th century.    Wardour Castle underwent a siege during the English Civil War in the mid-17th century, following which it fell into disuse.  Its iconic look has led to numerous movie appearances; both the 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and the 2016 film Journey to Aresmore used the landmark as a filming location.    

Brand-new contributor PeeJay brings us this marvelous drone video of Dunnottar Castle, a famous fortification in northeastern Scotland.  Located on a tiny peninsula in Aberdeenshire, the structure dates to the 15th-16th centuries.  Long believed to be virtually impregnable, the Scottish Crown Jewels were moved here for safekeeping during the English Civil War in the mid-17th century; it later played an important role in the 18th century Jacobite Uprising.  More recently, Dunnottar was used as a filming location for the 1996 movie Hamlet.  

Check out these drone views of the famous southern UK seaside town of Lyme Regis, compliments of Drone Eye View.  The town lies on the Jurassic Coast, on the borders between Counties Dorset and Devon.  The video features excellent footage of the Cobb, the town's harbor wall.  This landmark made appearances in Jane Austen's novel Persuasion (posthumously published in 1817) and in John Fowles' modern classic the French Lieutenant's Woman; it was also used as a filming location for a 1981 film adaptation of the latter starring Meryl Streep.

The Cliffs of Moher are one of the great natural wonders of Ireland.  Seen in this excellent drone video by contributor Santiago, they are located one of the peninsulas of western Ireland on the Wild Atlantic Way, in County Claire.  The cliffs run for a stretch of about 8 mi. (around 13 km) and reach a height of over 700 ft. (about 215 m).  The cliffs have appeared as filming locations in numerous movies, probably most famously as the Cliffs of Insanity in the 1987 cult classic, Princess Bride. 

Contributor and pilot TraveLocation Films created this excellent drone video of New York's Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.  It connects the boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn over a body of water called the Narrows, which connects Upper New York Bay (aka New York Harbor) with the Lower Bay and thence to the Atlantic Ocean.  Completed in 1964, the bridge's central span of 1.3k meters (about 4.25k ft.) was the longest in the world for nearly two decades.  The bridge was featured extensively in the 1977 blockbuster Saturday Night Fever.  

Contributor landof10000drones created this aerial view of the Chanhassen Dinner Theater in a southwestern suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Opened in 1968, it's the largest dinner theater in the USA.  It's part of a Twin Cities cultural scene which includes the Guthrie Theater, the Walker museum, and other nationally-known arts organizations.  However, this was the only one which made an appearance as a filming location in the 1996 classic Fargo, a product of the Minnesota-born Coen Brothers.

Check out this fantastic drone video of New York City's General Electric Building, compliments of AirVuz contributor onewheeldrone.  Located at Lexington Avenue and East 51st Street in Midtown Manhattan, the 50 floor Art Deco masterpiece was completed in 1931.  Standing a bit under 200 meters tall (about 640 ft.), it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The iconic tower has appeared in a number of movies and TV shows, most notably the 2005 blockbuster Mr. and Mrs. Smith starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.    

The UK's Blackpool Tower is one of the great landmarks of Victorian England.  Seen here in this drone video by lvlancashire, the tower and its namesake town are located on the coast of Lancashire in North West England.  Standing just under 160 meters (around 520 ft.), it was the tallest structure in the British Empire when it opened in 1894.  Part of a complex which includes a number of entertainment venues, it has appeared in a number of movies, notably Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (1996).

With London lying just a short distance from the mouth of the Thames River, protecting England's capital city from seaborne invasion has been a major strategic imperative for centuries.  In this drone video by contributor and pilot obsizusz, you'll get a bird's eye view of one of the most important historical fortifications on the Thames Estuary: Tilbury Fort.  Originally constructed during the reign of Henry VII and was subsequently enlarged based on prevailing threats, it appeared as a Turkish fort in the 2017 blockbuster "Wonder Woman". 

Former DVOW Finalist TravelPenguin brings us this stunning drone video of the great Indian city of Jodhpur, the second-largest city in the western state of Rajasthan.  Most of the first part of the video was shot over Jaswant Thada, a cenotaph (a type of tomb) on the city's northern outskirts.  The rest of the video was shot over the city's main attraction: the giant hilltop fortress of Mehrangarh.  Built in the 15th century, this landmark was used as a principal filming location for the 2012 Batman movie the Dark Knight Rises.   

Check out this drone video of a famous lake in Northern California, compliments of contributor and pilot Allan Crawford.  It's called Mono Lake, and it's situated on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, more or less due east from San Francisco.  The lake has no natural outlet, and it's known as a saline soda lake which means that its water is alkaline in chemistry.  The lake was the primary filming location for the 1973 movie High Plains Drifter, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood. 

Squam Lake is located in the Lakes Region of central New Hampshire.  Seen in this drone video by AirVuz contributor eagles2018, it's New Hampshire's second-largest lake after Lake Winnipesaukee, which lies to its southeast.  Squam is known for its populations of loons, bald eagles, and blue heron, among other avian species.  The lake appeared extensively in the 1981 drama On Golden Pond starring Henry Fonda, Katherine Hepburn, and Jane Fonda, the first two of whom won Oscars for Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively.  

Check out this drone video of a well-known manor in southern England, compliments of contributor oszibusz.  Located in Hertfordshire, Hatfield House was built early in the 17th century on the orders of Lord Cecil, the Early of Salisbury, who was the chief advisor to King James I.  Hatfield House has been featured in over a dozen feature movies, most prominently as the home of Queen Anne in the Favorite (2018), as well as TV shows such as the Netflix series the Crown.  Still owned  by members of the Cecil family, it is open to the public.  

Contributor EYEINTHESKYDRONE4K brings us this rare aerial video of a famous church in Scotland called Rosslyn Chapel.  It's located in the village of Roslin, just south of Edinburgh in the Lowland county of Midlothian.  Founded in the 15th century, it was closed to worship for centuries following the Scottish Reformation, re-opening as a Scottish Episcopal Church in the 19th century.  Connected to the Knights Templar, it was featured in the novel the Da Vinci Code and was used to film the 2006 movie adaptation of Dan Brown's blockbuster.  

Crichton Castle is a famous historical landmark in the Lowlands of Scotland.  It's situated in Midlothian, immediately to the southeast of Edinburgh.  Seen here in this excellent drone video by Jaybee2786, the structure originally dates to the 14th century but was modified significantly in the 15th under the ownership of Lord Chancellor William de Crichton.  Painted by the English artist J. M. W. Turner, the castle was used as a filming location for two feature movies, most notably the 1995 historical biography Rob Roy.  

Yorkshire Dales National Park is one of the biggest attractions in Northern England; the North Yorkshire park will see about 8 million visitors in a typical year.  Within the park, one of the most beautiful spots is Malham Cove, a giant rock formation which runs about a kilometer (.6 mi.) through the park.  Malham Cove has appeared in numerous movies, the most famous of which is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010).  You can see it from above in this drone video by AirVuz contributor ckeo99.

AirVuz contributor and pilot ireland_from_air brings us this excellent drone video of a picturesque spot on the eastern coast of Ireland.  Clogherhead and Port Oriel are adjacent villages in County Louth, roughly halfway between Dublin and the Republic's northern border.  The scenic location has been used as a filming location for a number of movies.  Most notably, the Port Oriel harbor was used to shoot the opening scene of the Devil's Own, a 1997 action thriller starring Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt.  

Check out this drone video of an important port city in Morocco, compliments of AirVuz contributor Drone Reveal.  The town is called Essaouira, and it's located about halfway down the country's Atlantic Ocean coastline.  It's part of the Marrakesh-Safi, region, whose capital city is Marrakesh.  Home to one of the country's finest natural harbors, Essaouira was the site of one of Portugal's first colonies in Africa.  In modern times, the city was used as a filming location for the 1952 film "Othello" starring and directed by Orson Welles.  

Some of Europe's most powerful fortresses were built in the passes of the Alps Mountains near the modern-day French/Italian border.  One of these fortifications is Fort Bard, which is built on a rocky promontory in the Aosta Valley of northwestern Italy.  Seen in this excellent drone video by Enrico Pescantini, the fortress was built in the mid-19th century by the rulers of the Kingdom of Savoy (which led the unification of Italy).  The fort was used as a filming location for the 2015 blockbuster movie Avengers: Age of Ultron.  

Gosford House is one of the most well-known manor homes in Scotland.  Seen in this excellent drone video by Jaybee2786, the 18th century neoclassical landmark is situated just east of Edinburgh, on the south side of the Firth of Forth estuary.  Gosford House has appeared in a number of feature movies, notably The House of Mirth, a 2000 adaptation of the Edith Wharton novel.  The manor, which sits on a 5k acre plot of land, was also used to film the second and third seasons of the popular Outlander drama TV series.  

Top contributor Majestic created this absolutely stunning drone video of Kauai, one of the principal islands of the state of Hawaii.  The westernmost of Hawaii's four main islands, Kauai was the last to develop as a tourist destination.  Called the Garden Island, Kauai is known as much as anything for being a prime movie filming location.  In the video, you will be treated to dramatic aerials and dronelapse shots of Napali Coast, Waimea Valley, Princeville, Kilauea Lighthouse, Poipu Beach, and more.

Papa.drone gives us a drone's eye view of the Star Wars Islands, two islands off the coast of southern Ireland.  Great Skellig (aka Skellig Michael) and Little Skellig are located southwest of the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry.  Once primarily known for Skellig Michael's 6th-century monastery, the islands burst into public consciousness in 2015 as the shooting location for Jedi Master Luke Skywalker's hideaway in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), appearing again in The Last Jedi (2017). 

To appreciate how much the art of cinematic first person view (FPV) drone videos has evolved, look no further than this incredible piece by legendary FPV pilot johnnyfpv.  The video features footage that this talented content creator shot for the action movie Red Notice, which was released on Netflix in 2021.  Written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, the movie was believed to have carried a production budget of $200 million.  It was once of the first films to feature extensive FPV footage.  This video was a DVOY finalist in 2021. 

Top AirVuz contributor LUK☰☰ used a DJI FPV drone as well as the DJI Air 3 to create this beautiful aerial view of Kualoa Ranch on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.  A private range on the island's eastern coast, the area has a more well known name: Jurassic Park.  That's because it was one of the main filming locations for Steven Spielberg's 1993 blockbuster movie of the same name.  Jurassic Park was also used as a filming location for Kong: Skull Island (2017), Pearl Harbor (2001), and other movies, plus numerous TV shows.  

Check out this stunning drone video of Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot splineglass.  Originally used as a fortress, the island went on to become a prison - first for military prisoners beginning in the Civil War, and later as a famously high security federal penitentiary which closed in 1963.  Alcatraz later appeared in a number of movies, including Catch Me if You Can (2002), the Rock (1996), Escape from Alcatraz (1979), and more.  The island is operated by the National Park Service.  

Seen here in this video by Lone Star Drones, the Johnson Space Center is the most important center for manned space flight at the USA's National Aeronautics and Space Administration.  Located in the southeastern outskirts of Houston, Texas, its most famous moment was in July, 1969, when Mission Control here directed the Apollo 11 moon landing.  The JSC also been a filming location for a number of films, notably two of the biggest blockbusters of the 1990's: Apollo 13 (1995) and Armageddon (1998).
