The beach runs along Maya Bay on the island of Ko Phi Phi Lee, one of the main islands of the Phi Phi Archipelago in the Andaman Sea. Located southeast of the somewhat better-known island of Phuket, the Phi Phi Islands are part of the province of Krabi. Along with other spots on the island, Maya Bay was one of the primary filming locations for the 2000 adventure movie the Beach starring Leonard DiCaprio.
