Medfield State Hospital, Massachusetts

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE : Located about 45 km (around 30 mi.) southwest of Boston, the Medfield State Hospital once had a more foreboding (and now politically incorrect) name: the Medfield Insane Asylum. Opened in the early 20th century, the facility once housed over 2k patients. Closed since 2003, the site is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It's appeared in a number of feature movies, most notably in Robert Scorsese's 2010 psychological thriller Shutter Island starring Leonard DiCaprio.
