The Republic of Malta is an island nation in the Mediterranean in Southern Europe, roughly 80 km (50 mi) southwest of Sicily. The archipelago consists of three inhabited islands (Malta, Gozo, and Comino) plus a number of very small uninhabited islands. With a population of around 450k and only 316 square km (120 square mi) of land area, it is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. Despite its small size, the island is packed with spectacular medieval fortresses, ancient seaports and harbors, and docked yachts and sailboats of Europe's super-rich. It's no wonder that Malta emerged as a popular movie filming location near the dawn of film, and more recently its visual charms led it to be a primary filming location for HBO's Game of Thrones series in its first season. As can be seen from these drone videos, it is a sight to behold from an aerial perspective! Aerial photo: “Mgarr Harbour, Gozo, Malta” by AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Gozo Mavic.
