Top contributor Vitaliy.karpovich has created some of the finest drone videos of St. Petersburg, Russia.  In this piece, which was picked as a DVOW Finalist, you'll be treated to some amazing wintertime views of the great city on the Neva River.  The video opens with a shot looking east toward the Admiralty Building and beyond that to Palace Square.  At about the :30 there's a great fly-by of St. Isaacs Cathedral, followed by an epic twilight shot of the old Stock Exchange building, Kazan Cathedral (:40), and the Peterhof Palace (:48).

AirVuz contributor Flycam24 brings us this stunning Christmastime drone video from St. Petersburg, Russia's second-largest city and erstwhile capital.  The video was shot over Palace Square, the city's largest outdoor square and beating heart.  Named after the Winter Palace (now the Hermitage Museum), Palace Square was the scene of some of the most traumatic events in Russian history, including the Bloody Sunday massacre of anti-Tsarist protesters in 1905 and some of the key events of the two revolutions of 1917.   

AirVuz contributor cdrugger brings us this excellent drone video of St. Petersburg, Russia.  Starting at about the 1:12 mark, there are some great shots of the small island Fort Alexander.   At about 1:33, you'll see Palace Square, and at about 1:50 there's a great shot of the old Stock Exchange building.  At around the 2:49 mark, you'll fly past the great Peter and Paul Fortress, and at the 3:40 mark there's a shot looking towards Lakhta Center from the mouth of the Neva River.  The video concludes with views of a fireworks show.

Check out this eerie drone video of the nearly empty streets of St. Petersburg, Russia during the Covid-19 pandemic in the Spring of 2020, compliments of Sinaysky.  While Russia didn't see its first confirmed death until the third week of March, by mid-April the country was reporting dozens of new daily deaths; St. Petersburg was the second-largest cluster after Moscow.  By then, a combination of measures at the Federal and St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast put life in Russia's second city to a near-standstill.

Former Drone Video of the Week Finalist kino.team brings us this excellent video of Vasilevsky Island in St. Petersburg, Russia.  The island is located between two arms of the Neva River near the waterway's mouth on the Gulf of Finland.  Created with a combination of drone and ground camera footage, the video captures the sights and sounds of the island, which is located just across the river from some of the city's most recognized landmarks and is connected to the mainland via some of the city's most famous bridges.  

Bolshoi Obukhovsky Bridge is the newest bridge crossing the Neva River in St. Petersburg, Russia.  Competed in 2004, the 2.8k meter (about 9.2k ft) cable suspension bridge is the only St. Petersburg bridge which is not a drawbridge.  Contributo Dronemedia.me used a DJI Phantom drone to create a bird's eye view of this monumental span, an important addition to the infrastructure of Russia's second largest city and one which instantly received worldwide recognition due to its highly complex design.

Saint Petersburg's Krestovsky Stadium is a new, super-modern football (American soccer) stadium built on the site of the Kirov Stadium on Krestovsky Island.  With a normal seating capacity of about 68k, it's the home field of the FC Zenit Saint Petersburg football team.  The stadium hosted the Opening Match and Final of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.  Contributor Dronemedia.me flew a drone over this massive new sports facility and created this amazing aerial view of the stadium and its surroundings. 

Contributor Manx.cat put together this beautiful reel of aerial highlights of St. Petersburg, Russia's second largest city and one-time capital.  The video opens with a shot looking down one of the city's canals at the gold dome of St. Isaac's Cathedral, the largest Eastern Orthodox church in the world.  From there it cuts to the magnificent Peterhof Palace, known as the Russian Versailles.  The video will then take you around to other notable spots in this magnificent city, Peter the Great's Window on Europe.  

Lakhta Center is a skyscraper project in the outskirts of St. Petersburg.  When the tower was topped out in early 2018, it became the tallest building not just in Russia, but in all of Europe.  Top contributor Timelab.pro used a DJI Inspire 2 drone to create a breathtaking aerial video of this amazing and supermodern, mixed-use structure that has 87 floors and reaches a rooftop height of 462 meters (just over 1.5k ft.).  The building is located on the Gulf of Finland, a bit northwest of the city center.

Take a first person view (FPV) drone tour of Russia's famous Peter and Paul Fortress, compliments of Shamkhal_fpv.  The complex sits on its own island near the mouth of the Neva River in the heart of St. Petersburg, Russia's second-largest city.  It was established in the early 18th century by Tsar Peter the Great, who built his namesake city to replace Moscow as Russia's capital.  Originally constructed to defend from an attack by Sweden from the north which never materialized, it went on to serve as a prison for nearly 200 years.  

The Scarlet Sails (Алые паруса in Russian) is a celebration in St. Petersburg, Russia. It is the biggest and most famous event during the White Nights Festival every summer, when the days are virtually endless. The spectacular fireworks, epic concerts, and massive water show brings more than one million people to the city to celebrate. Drone pilot DroneProduction.ru captures the massive party in this spectacular, 4K drone video featuring the thousands of fireworks that light up the night. 

Palace Square is one of the main public spaces in St. Petersburg, Russia.  It's named after the adjacent Winter Palace, the official residence of the Romanov family from 1732-1917 and now part of the Hermitage.  The focal point of Palace Square is the Alexander Column; it's named after Tsar Alexander I, who led the victory over Napoleon in the early 1800's.  In this drone video by Shkrebiy, you'll get a 360 degree view of the square, the site of the Bloody Sunday Massacre of 1905 which set the stage for the Russian Revolutions of 1917.  

Contributor chill_side put together this terrific drone video of the city of St. Petersburg as it celebrated the 75th anniversary of the end of history's deadliest siege during World War II.  In September, 1941, three months after invading the USSR, the forces of Nazi Germany surrounded the city, which was then known as Leningrad.   During the ensuing 900 days, it's estimated that over a million civilians perished, mostly from hunger, exposure, and disease.  Leningrad was liberated by the Red Army in January, 1944.

Prepare to be amazed by this first person view (FPV) drone video of an epic dive session over one of the world's most prominent skyscrapers, compliments of AirVuz contributor pilot n0i3e: Lakhta Center in St. Petersburg, Russia, which has the distinction of being Europe's tallest skyscraper as of 2021.  Completed in 2018, the ultra-modern "twisted" structure stands nearly half a kilometer (460 meters, or about 1.5k ft.) above the Lakhta neighborhood northwest of St. Petersburg's historic city center.  

Check out this fascinating drone video by chill_side of a containership plowing its way through half-frozen waters of the Baltic Sea near St. Petersburg, Russia.  The video was shot near the city of Kronstandt, which is located on Kotlin Island about 30 km (around 18 mi.) west of central St. Petersburg, in the Gulf of Finland.  The island, which is part of the city of St. Petersburg, is the long-time home of the Russian Baltic Fleet.  The waters around Kronsadt are generally completely frozen during the winter months.  

Check out this rare drone footage of Europe's tallest skyscraper under construction, compliments of top contributor and pilot Flycam24.  He was able to film the Lakhta Center in St. Petersburg as the giant tower was nearing its topping out stage.  Completed in 2019, the 87 story mixed-use tower has an architectural height of 462 meters, or just over 1.5k ft.  It's located in the Lakhta District, on the shores of the Gulf of Finland northwest of the historical city core.  It is the tallest building in Europe as of 2020.  

For a second upload to AirVuz, contributor and pilot yuriylobachev brings us this excellent drone video from St. Petersburg, Russia.  The focus of the first part of the video is the gold-domed St. Isaacs Cathedral, the great Russian Orthodox church built on the orders of Tsar Alexander I, which is generally considered the city's greatest church.  Then it's on to the Peterhof Palace, Catherine the Great's answer to Versaille.  Then it's on to the Russian Navy cruiser Aurora, now a floating museum, the bridges of the Neva, and more.  

Trinity Cathedral is an important cultural landmark in the Russian city of St. Petersburg.  Consecrated in 1835, it's considered one of the best examples of the Empire architectural style.  The Eastern Orthodox church is located just south of the Admiralty complex on Izmaylovskiy Prospekt.  Left in a state of abandon and almost closed during the Stalinist 30's, the church underwent a major restoration in the 1990's but was heavily damaged by a fire in 2006.  Check it out from above in this excellent drone video by Minglam.  

As the world's northernmost major city, Russia's St. Petersburg becomes a semi-frozen world during the winter months.  In this excellent drone video by contributor proskalov, you'll get a bird's eye wintertime view of Russia's erstwhile capital.  The video opens with shots of the Bolsheokhtinsky Bridge (aka the Peter the Great Bridge) over the Neva River.  Then you'll head downstream, first to the blue and white Smolny Cathedral, then Palace Square, and finally the Old Stock Exchange Building, before returning to the bridge.  

Here's a nice aerial view of St. Petersburg, Russia, compliments of contributor Agapov.Nikita.  The video was shot in the summer months in the heart of the city, along the Neva River.  At about the :40 mark there's a great shot looking south and west over the Troitskiy Bridge towards the Hermitage and (to the right) the gold-domed St. Isaac's Cathedral.  At around the :40 there's another great shot looking over the bridge, this time due west towards the great Fortress of Peter and Paul and its enclosed Peter and Paul Cathedral. 

Take a tour of the great Russian city of St. Petersburg in this excellent drone video by new AirVuz contributor Matvey Makarov.  Starting at about the :35 mark, there are some great shots of the gold-domed St. Isaac's Cathedral.  At about the :55, you'll see the bridges of the Western High Speed Diameter toll-road over the mouth of the Neva River.  Another highlight is the 14th century Shlisselburg Fortress; seen beginning at the 1:20 mark, it's built on a small island at the southern end of Lake Ladoga, east of central St. Petersburg.

Top contributor vitaliy.karpovich has created some of the best aerial footage of St. Petersburg; his three first uploads, all from Russia's Second City, were all picked as finalists for the AirVuz Drone Video of the Week.  In this outstanding video, he shows us the Saint Petersburg Sports and Concert Complex.  Now in the process of demolition, the facility opened in 1979.  On a site located just east of Moskovsky Victory Park in one of the city's southern districts, the venue was used primarily for concerts and tennis tournaments.

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor yes.tomorrow brings us this excellent drone video of a fog-covered bridge in the city of St. Petersburg, Russia.  It's called the Bolshoy Obukhovsky Bridge, and it spans the Neva River southeast of the center city.   Its first span opened in 2004 its second in 2007, it's the city's only Neva River bridge which is not a drawbridge.  The longest span of the cable-stayed bridge is 382 meters or about 1.25k ft., one of the longest in Russia.  It's total length is 2.8k meters or about 9.3k ft.     

Check out this drone video of a beautiful spot just north of St. Petersburg, Russia, compliments of contributor and pilot junglijay.  It's called Solnechnoe, and it's located in Kurortny, the northernmost district of Russia's second-largest city and erstwhile capital.  The territory here is part of the Karelian Isthmus, the land bridge between the Gulf of Finland to the west and Lake Ladoga to the east.  The area had been part of Finland prior to its capture by the Soviet Union in the Winter War of 1939-40.

The Lakhta Center, which was completed in 2018, stands nearly half a kilometer (460 meters, or about 1.5k ft.) above St. Petersburg, Russia.  It is, by a significant margin, the tallest building in Europe.  While it was being built, contributor and FPV pilot Controlflow took an epic dive down the building using a racing drone.  As you watch it that the drone is being flown via video goggles at ground level. The dive has made itself a nominee in our 2nd Annual Drone Video Awards FPV Freestyle Technical category.

A port city on the Baltic Sea, Saint Petersburg, Russia was the imperial capital for two centuries. Founded by Peter the Great in 1703, it remains Russia’s cultural center whose downtown is on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. The Neva River, which cuts through the city with its many canals and their granite embankments and bridges, adds to the city’s ambience. January 27 is an important day in St. Petersburg, Russia, a city which was known as Leningrad in Soviet times.  On January 27, 1944, the Red Army finally broke through the German forces which had encircled the city in the first months of the Great Patriotic War (as World War II is known in the former USSR), ending a nearly 900 day siege which had resulted in up to a million civilian deaths from starvation and cold.  In this excellent drone video by AirVuz contributor Skyslant, you'll see the commemoration of this historic event.
