DIVING THE TALLEST BUILDING IN EUROPE :: 462 meters :: Lakhta Center FPV Freestyle

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE : The Lakhta Center, which was completed in 2018, stands nearly half a kilometer (460 meters, or about 1.5k ft.) above St. Petersburg, Russia. It is, by a significant margin, the tallest building in Europe. While it was being built, contributor and FPV pilot Controlflow took an epic dive down the building using a racing drone. As you watch it that the drone is being flown via video goggles at ground level. The dive has made itself a nominee in our 2nd Annual Drone Video Awards FPV Freestyle Technical category.

Music: KRANE x Alexander Lewis – Fall Apart Building: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lakhta_Center (462 meters) To be fair, Lakhta is relatively boring place to dive – no other buildings around, tower looks pretty much the same all the 460+ meters way down, dive takes too much time (around 15 seconds), only two climbs were safe to do with 1300mAh lipo. The coolest parts were the tower cranes dives and acrobatics around supporting constructs. Sadly, those cranes are disassembled already. One more interesting thing I noticed there – the tower is high enough to notice quad getting out of tune because of too low PIDs coefficients (maybe somebody will implement altitude sensor based PID attenuation some day?). On safety: whole complex was under construction, it was relatively safe to fly there - normal safety rules were applied for skyscraper construction workers (helmets and so on), little 500g+ drone can't cause serious damage there. Even diving speeds were not as fast as I expect them to be - quad reaches terminal velocity in about 3-5 seconds and pretty much stops accelerating. I also used reliable TBS Crossfire connection (LQ 99% at ~700 meters) and 500mW 5.8Ghz vtx was enough for crystal clear video.
