Top AirVuz contributor Mattcoq created this stunning drone view of Germany's Lichtenstein and Hohenzellorn Castles, two of Europe's most famous Gothic Revival landmarks.  Both are situated in the southwestern state of Baden-Württemberg, and were built on the site of earlier structures.  Completed in 1842, Lichtenstein Castle was built for Wilhelm, Duke of Urach, a local nobleman.  Hohenzollern Castle was completed in 1867.  It was the ancestral seat of the Hohenzollern family, which ruled Prussia and then all of Germany until 1918.

AirVuz contributor Daniel Gavrilas returns to AirVuz after a multi-year hiatus with this fantastic droen video of Germany's Black Forest.  Situated in the state of Baden-Württemberg in the southwestern corner of the country, the Black Forest marks the divide between two of Europe's greatest river systems: the Rhine, which ultimately drains northwest into the Atlantic Ocean, and the Danube River, which drains to the Black Sea far to the southeast.  The video was filmed with a DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone.  

Check out this fantastic drone video of Düsseldorf, Germany by new AirVuz contributor alexanderwasserman.  Düsseldorf is the second-largest city (after Cologne) in North-Rhine-Westphalia, the most populous of modern Germany's 16 states.  Situated on the Rhine River, it lies in the heart of the Ruhr region, one of the most important industrial zones of Europe.  The video features excellent aerial footage of some of the most well-known spots in the city, including the Altstadt "old town", the Rhine TV Tower, the Rhine Park, and more.  

Former Drone Video of the Week Finalist Kobebryt brings us this stunning drone videos from Germany's Taurus Mountains.  The video was shot over Großer Feldberg, which is the highest peak in this chain.  This mountain has a maximum elevation of about 2.9k ft. above sea level, or around 900 m.  The Taurus Mountains are located in the western state of Hesse.  They form part of a broader mountain system known as the Rhenish Massif, which also covers parts of Luxembourg, eastern Belgium, and northeastern France.  

Hohenzollern Castle is one of Europe's most famous.  It's situated atop a hill in the Swabian Alps in the southwest German state of Baden-Württemberg.  The Gothic Revival masterpiece was built in the mid-19th century as the seat of the Hohenzollerns, a dynasty which ruled the German predecessor state of Prussia and then the German Empire from its formation in 1871 until its defeat in World War I.  Located on the site of two earlier castles, you can check out the famous landmark from above in this fantastic drone video from Droneuwe.

Content creator and drone pilot Markcure gives us this beautiful aerial look at the Middle Rhine River in Western Germany. The Rhine is one of the most important waterways in Europe, belying its modest length of about 1.2k km (about 735 mi.).  It rises in Germany's Black Forest as the High Rhine, meanders through parts of France and Switzerland as the Upper Rhine, runs north through much of western Germany as the Middle, then shifts to the northwest, discharging into the North Sea in the Netherlands.  

While the southern state of Bavaria is home to Germany's highest peaks, there are smaller mountain ranges in other parts of the country.  One of these is the Taunus range, which runs through the state of Hesse in west-central Germany.  Großer Feldberg is the highest peak in the range, with an altitude of about 880 meters above sea level (around 2.9k ft.).  Top contributor and pilot Haussmannvisuals brings us this beautiful video of this graceful mountain, shot on a beautiful winter morning.  

Former Drone Video of the Week Winner dronasantana007 brings us this stunning drone video of Heidelberg, one of the most important cities in southwestern Germany.  It's situated on the Neckar River (a major Rhine tributary) in the state of Baden-Württemberg.  It is a university town, known as the home of Heidelberg University - the oldest in Germany and one of the oldest in the world.  It's also home to the ruins of Heidelberg Castle, considered one of the great Renaissance structures, which is prominently featured in the video.  

New Entertainment Pictures created this beautiful aerial view of Stuttgart, the capital of the Baden-Württemberg state in southwestern Germany.  With a population of about 600,000, it's the sixth largest city in the country.  Stuttgart was the home of car inventor Karl Benz, and is considered the cradle of the worldwide automobile industry.  Watch the video to get epic bird's eye views of this amazing city, including shots of the Stuttgart 21 development, the opera house, and the Schlossplatz square.  

Top contributor and pilot haussmannvisuals brings us these eerie aerial views of the German financial capital of Frankfurt in the latter part of March, 2020, as the worldwide Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic caused a virtual shutdown of activity across much of Europe.  As the German case count mushroomed from just over 100 at the beginning of the month to nearly 20,000 in just three weeks, the state and federal governments took increasingly active measures to impose social distancing as a means to control the spread of the disease.  

AirVuz contributor gadour23 brings us this fantastic drone video of the city of Bonn, Germany.  Situated on the Rhine River in the state of North Rhine Westphalia, Bonn is the southernmost city of the Rhine-Ruhr industrial region.  The birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven, Bonn served as the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany during the decades when the country was divided in two following World War II.  The video features excellent footage of the giant yellow Electoral Palace, the main building of the University of Bonn.  

Contributor and pilot Yekalay used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this aerial tour of Cologne, the most populous city in Germany's Rhineland region and the home of one of the world's most famous cathedrals.  The city is situated on the middle Rhine River in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, between Dusseldorf and Bonn .  With its massive industrial base, Cologne was one of the biggest targets of Allied bombing in World War II; the Cathedral was hit 14 times and required extensive postwar repair.

Using a DJI Phantom 3 Pro drone, Oggy created this beautiful aerial video of Duisburg and Oberhausen, two important cities of Germany's state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populous in the federation and the heart of the so-called Rhineland region.  Duisberg is Germany's 15th largest city.  It lies at the confluence of the Rhine and Ruhr rivers in the industrial heartland of the country.  Oberhausen, the smaller of the two cities, is situated a bit to the northeast, roughly equidistant from Duisenberg and Essen.

Content creator and pilot DanielNash created this beautiful drone video of Linz-Am Rhein, a town on the Rhine River in the western part of Germany.  Located in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, it's very close to Remagen, the site of a famous bridge capture in the later stages of World War II.  The city dates to the 9th century AD, although it was nearly destroyed by a fire in the 13th century.  The town lies in the heart of the Middle Rhine, the portion of the river between Bingen (upstream of the town) and Bonn.  

Former DVOW Finalist New Entertainment Pictures brings us this excellent drone video of the southern German town of Überlingen.  Überlingen lies on the northern shore of Lake Constance (Bodensee), a body of water which is part of the Rhine River system and which partially delineates the German/Swiss border.  Part of the southwestern state of Baden-Württemberg, the city has a rich history as a site of considerable strategic importance and later as a spa town.  It's considered one of the premiere resort destinations on Lake Constance.

The legendary Black Forest region of the southwest German state of Baden-Württemberg is actually not a forest per se but a mountain range, parts of which are heavily forested.  It forms a sort of continental divide of Europe; its western portion drains to the Atlantic Ocean via the Rhine River while its eastern portion drains to the Black Sea via the Danube River.  In this drone video by Daniel Gavrilas, you'll get a mini-tour of the region, which wasn't settled until the High Middle Ages period of 1000-1250 AD.

The Eifel Mountains are one of the lesser-known ranges in Germany.  They lie across the states of North-Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate plus a portion of eastern Belgium.  The Eifels are part of a larger grouping known as the Rhenish Massif.  The highest peak of the Eifels is Hohe Acht, which has a maximum elevation of just under 750 meters above sea level or around 2.45k ft.  Cntributor Peter van Haastrecht created this beautiful aerial view of the mountains on a colorful Fall day.  

Contributor and pilot Marco Cantieni created this beautiful drone video of the western part of Lake Constance, a large freshwater body which borders Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.  The footage in the video was taken in the western portion of the Upper Lake (Obersee Bodensee), all of which are part of the southwest German state of Baden-Württemberg: Bodman, Überlingen, Kontanz, and Mägdeberg.  The lake forms part of the Rhine River and lies at the foot of the Alps mountains.  

Cochem Castle, built in the 12th century, lies on the Moselle River in the Rhineland area of western Germany.  It is cradled on a hilltop that offers panoramic views of Cochem village and the surrounding landscape of Rhineland-Palatinate, one of Western Germany's most important states.  Contributor Stefan Beumer flew his drone over the castle and the village, creating this spectacular aerial view of the magnificent landmark, which was destroyed in the 17th century and rebuilt in the 19th. 

Immerath is a small village in the Rhineland Palatinate state in western Germany.  This is the heart of Germany's coal country, which feeds the country's coal-fired power plants and supplies coking coal to the blast furnaces of its giant integrated steel mills.  In connection with the expansion of a nearby coal mine, the citizens of the village have been relocated.  Contributor Martijneier flew his drone over this ancient village, creating a surreal aerial view of a mysterious looking ghost town. 

Hessigheim is a small town in the southwestern German state of Baden-Wurtemberg, which borders France to the west, Switzerland to the south, and Germany's own state of Bavaria to the east.  It's an area of Central Europe where flat terrain is interspersed with unusual rock formations, and it's a rock climbers paradise.  In this video, content creator and pilot Smartfan flew a DJI Phantom 4 Professional drone around the area, capturing both types of terrain including some spectacular rock gardens.    

AirVuz contributor and pilot Sebastian Ferguson created this amazing drone video of Landschaftspark Duisburg, a park in western Germany which was designed to celebrate Germany's industrial heritage.  It's located near Duisberg, in the Ruhr valley.  This region has been the center of Germany's smokestack industries that enabled the country to overtake Great Britain as Europe's leading manufacturing center in the late 1800's. A steel plant and coal mine (now closed) are the centerpieces of the park.

Contributor and pilot Oggy created this epic drone video of the area around Winterberg in Germany.  It's situated in the state of North-Rhine-Westphalia, one of the principal states of western Germany.  As the name perhaps suggests, Winterberg is Germany's winter wonderland.  It's near the Skiliftkarussell Winterberg, one of the country's major ski resorts.  What you'll see in this video is one of the most spectacular winter landscapes in Europe.  The video was shot with a DJI Phantom 3 drone.  

Here's a great bird's eye view of an important castle in southwestern Germany, compliments of contributor Marco Cantieni.  The semi-ruined landmark is called Hochberg ("High Castle") in reference to its commanding position overlooking a valley near the town of Emmendingen in the state of Baden-Württemberg.  The castle sits in the historic borderlands on the Rhine River which have been the scene of countless military conflicts through the ages.  It's been in a ruined state since the late 1600's.  

Contributor and drone pilot Daniel Gavrilas created this remarkable aerial video of Germany's Schluchsee Lake in the fabled Black Forest.  It is situated in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district of Baden-Württemberg, the state which covers the southwestern portion of the country.  The lake was created to power the Schluchsee Hydropower Complex, which supplies power to southwestern Germany.  At the same time, it's a large recreational draw, and its cool, clear waters draw all manner of outdoors-seekers.  

Eltz Castle is one of the most famous castles in the Rhineland area of Western Germany.  It is situated on a hill above the Moselle River near Koblenz in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.  Most of the current structure was built in the 19th century in the Baroque style, on the partial ruins of an 11th century Romanesque keep.  Content creator Sinbad the Aviator used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this aerial tour of the castle, one of the few in this long fought-over region which was never captured. 

Content creator and pilot FreakinTim created this amazing drone video of one of the most important sites of German industrial history.  The Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex is near Essen, Germany, in the heart of the country's Rhineland region.  The plant shown in the video turned coal from the nearby coal mine to coke, a critical ingredient for integrated  steel manufacturing.  At one point, it was the largest coking operation in the world, and was a vital component of Germany's steelmaking industry.

The European Union still relies on coal for about 20% of the region's electricity generation as of 2018.  With much of Europe's best coal resources having long since been depleted, most of this power is produced by burning lignite, a lower quality type of coal.  Lignite is generally extracted via large opencast mines like the Tagebau Garzweiler in the North Rhine Westphalia state of western Germany.   Contributor XL Creations brings this recently-expanded mine to life with this drone video.  

Top contributor New Entertainment Pictures created this marvelous drone video of Europa Park, one of the largest theme parks in Europe.  It's located near Rust, a town in the southwestern corner of Baden-Württemberg on the French border.  Inspired by American amusement parks, the park opened in 1975 and has been expanded numerous times.  Known for its 13 rollercoasters, it draws around 6 million visitors annually, putting it second only to Disney Paris amongst Europe's amusement parks.      

Historically, the Moselle and Rhine Rivers offered some of the most formidable natural defensive positions in Western Europe.  That's why the two waterways are home to some of the most powerful castles and fortifications on the continent, particularly in the area upstream of their confluence in the German city of Koblenz.  In this drone video by Michael Haubold, you'll be treated to captioned aerial views of the following castles: Katz Castle, Pyrmont Castle, Ehrenfels Castle, Rheinstein Castle, Stahleck Castle; Coachem Castle, and more.

Content creator and pilot Sebastian Ferguson used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this aerial video of an important dam in Western Germany.  The Urft Dam is situated on the river of the same name in the state of North Rhine Westphalia.  Built in 1905, the gravity dam has a height of just under 60 meters (around 200 ft.).  While the dam provides a modest amount of hydropower, it was built primarily for water management.  Urfit was, briefly, the tallest in Europe until the construction of Bober Dam in Silesia in 1912.

Take a wintertime aerial tour of the German city of Stuttgart in this excellent drone video by former DVOW Winner New Entertainment Pictures.  The video opens with a shot of the green-domed Württemberg Mausoleum atop its namesake hill opposite the Neckar River from central Stuttgart.  At about the :40 mark, you'll see the Schlossplatz, the city's largest public square.  Other highlights include the Fernsehturm Stuttgart TV and observation tower (first seen at the :50 mark), Killesberg Tower (1:02), St. John's Church (1:20), and more.  

Herten Castle (Schloss Herten) is an important moated castle in the heart of the Rhineland region of western Germany.  It's situated in the eponymously named town in the state of North-Rhine Westphalia.  The original structure dates to the 14th century. It underwent substantial modifications in the early 1500s, and later that century it endured a two-year siege during Germany's Wars of Religion.  Lying in a ruined state for many years, it was restored in the 1970s and is now a protected monument.    

Top contributor NGreyTravels created this beautiful aerial view of the western German town of Cochem.  The medieval gem sits on the Moselle River (a major Rhine tributary) in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.  The video features excellent footage of its hilltop castle, which originally dates to the 12th century and was reconstructed in the Gothic style in the 19th.  You'll also see footage of the Skagerrak Bridge, which was built in the 1920's.  The town saw significant damage during World War II.

AirVuz contributor davetke2002 brings us this excellent drone tour of Germany's Rhine Valley.  Featured loctions include the town of Assmannshausen in the state of Hesse; Rheinstein Castle, near the town of Trechtingshausen in Rhineland-Palatinate; Reichenstein Castle; the town of Lorch, on the Rems River in the state of Baden-Württemberg; the town of Bacharach, also in Rhineland-Palatinate; Pfalzgrafenstein Castle, on an island of the River Rhine; Gutenfels Castle, also on the River Rhine; the Middle Rhine town of Oberwesel; and more.  

The Rhine River, which runs through large stretches of western and southern Germany, is one of the most engineered waterways in the world.  This is particularly true in a stretch known as the Altrhein, which covers a portion of the river in the western German state of North Rhine Westphalia.  Here, almost countless lakes and other bodies of water have been formed via the canalization of the Rhine, particularly in the 1800's.  In this drone video by Marco Cantieni, you'll get a bird's eye view of the Altrhein.  

Prepared to be amazed by these stunning drone views of Frankfurt, Germany, compliments of former Drone Video of the Week Winner haussmannvisuals.  Most of the video was shot over and around the city's Financial District, which is located on the right (northern) bank of the Main River and which is considered the most important financial hub on the European Mainland.  Including the nearby headquarters tower for the European Central Bank, it's home to all of Germany's ten tallest buildings (as of 2022) and 18 of its 20 tallest.  

Solingen is one of the largest cities in a region known as Bergisches Land, which is a hilly area in the state of North-Rhine-Westphalia in Western Germany.  For centuries, the city has been closely associated with the manufacturing of steel blades - everything from swords in medieval times to advanced shaving blades in modern times.  The City of Blades is situated on the Whipper River, a major tributary of the mighty Rhine River.  The old city was heavily damaged by an Allied bombing raid in World War II. 

Contributor and pilot Maciej Ziomber combined drone and ground camera footage to create this marvelous video of one of Germany's most famous monasteries.  It's called Beuron Archabbey, and it's a Benedictine Monastery which was founded in 1863 in its namesake town.  It continues to operate, and it's currently home to Germany's largest monastic library.  Beuron is part of Baden-Württemberg, Germany's most heavily Catholic state, which covers the southwestern part of the country.

Kleve is a town in the Lower Rhine region of Germany near the Dutch border. During WWII, the city became home to one of the two critical radio transmitters used to run the Luftwaffe's aircraft navigation system, and was heavily targeted by Allied bombers as we result: over 90 percent of the buildings in the city were severely damaged. However, one of the visual highlights of the city, its 17th century gardens, remained fairly intact.  You can see these beautiful gardens from above in this aerial video by NTG DRONE.

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor and drone pilot Dronesco Videokulturebe brings us this excellent aerial video from Germany's Taunus Mountains.  The Taunus are located a bit north of Frankfurt, in the state of Hesse.  They form part of a larger system called the Rhenish Uplands, which also cover parts of Belgium, Luxembourg, and northeastern France.  The highest peak of the Taunus is Großer Feldberg, which has a summit elevation of about 880 meters above sea level, or just under 2.9k ft..  

Here's an excellent aerial video from a beautiful spot in Stuttgart, Germany, compliments of new contributor ziyad saleh.  The video was shot over the village of Rotenberg, which is part of Untertürkheim, one of the outer districts of the city, on the east side of the Neckar River.  The village sits atop Württemberg Hill, after which the state of  Baden-Württemberg is partly named.   The video features some great views looking toward the center of Stuttgart, the state capital and Germany's sixth-largest city.

Check out this drone video of the world's tallest church as of year-end 2019.  It's called the Ulm Minster, and it's located in the medieval town of Ulm in the southwest German state of Baden-Württemberg.  Now a Lutheran church, its construction began in 1377 - roughly a century before the birth of Martin Luther.  Its spire, reachable via 768 steps, stands 143 meters tall (469 ft.).  Pending the completion of Barcelona's Sagrada Familia, that makes this landmark the tallest church on the planet.  

Check out this drone video of one of the modern landmarks of Germany, compliments of wyciu.  It's the Rhine Tower (Rheinturm) communications tower in the city of Düsseldorf, the capital and second-largest city in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Standing over 240 meters (about 790 ft.), it's one of the tallest structures in the country.  Completed in 1981, it features a revolving observation deck and restaurant at its top.  The tower overlooks the Rhine River, one of Europe's most important waterways.  

Brand-new contributor SK DroneFilms used a DJI Mavic Air 2 drone to create this stunnng aerial tour of a German university town called Marburg.  It's located in the west-central state of Hesse, an hour's drive north of Frankfurt.  Founded in the 13th century, the town is the home of the University of Marburg, considered the world's oldest Protestant university,  The video features marvelous footage of the town's landmarks, including the university buildings, St. Elizabeth Church, and the hilltop Marburger Schloss castle, and more. 

Here's a nice aerial view of the city of Fulda in the state of Hesse in Western Germany, compliments of contributor and pilot wyciu.  The city was the site of an 8th century AD monastery founded by a disciple of St. Bonaface.  Fulda lies astride two corridors which were thought vunerable to a tank invasion by the Soviet Union during the Cold War.  Covering the so-called Fulda Gap (which exposed the massive US Air Force bases in nearby Frankfurt) became a major preoccupation within NATO during those tense decades.  

AirVuz contributor ziyad saleh created this excellent drone video of the historic German town of Esslingen am Neckar.  It's located on the banks of the Neckar River (a major Rhine tributary) about 15 km (around 10 mi.) southeast of Stuttgart in the southwestern state of Baden-Württemberg.  A prominent market town in the Middle Ages, the city was devastated during the Thirty Years' War of the 17th century when it lost over half its population.  Beginning in the 19th century, it became an important industrial center.  

Brand-new AirVuz contributor Chief of Drones brings us this fantastic drone view of Germany's Hochblauen, a mountain in the legendary Black Forest.  Lying in the southern part of the forest, the mountain affords dramatic views of the region, including the nearby Vosges and Jura Mountains and (further afield) the Bavarian Alps.  The mountain has a peak height of a bit under 1.2k meters above sea level (around 3.8k ft.).  The video features great aerial footage of the Berghaus Hochblauen, an inn which stands at the mountain's summit. 

Check out this drone video of a well known 18th century castle in southwestern Germany, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot ziyad saleh.  It's called Castle Soltitude, and it's located on the western outskirts of Stuttgart - Germany's sixth-largest city and the capital of its Baden-Württemberg state.  Completed in the 1760's, the castle was commissioned by Charles Eugene, the Duke of Württemberg. The castle fell into a nearly ruined state in the early 20th century but was later restored and renovated.

AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Aro brings us this fantastic aerial view of a well-known reservoir lake in Germany's Black Forest.  The lake as it's known now was created in the early 1930's by the damming of the River Schwarza.  Roughly four miles long (seven km) by a mile wide (about 1.4 km), the lake sits at an altitude of just over 3k ft. above sea level (around 930 m).  It's the largest lake in the Black Forest, the forested mountain region in the southwestern state of Baden-Württemberg.  

Top AirVuz contributor and pilot New Entertainment Pictures brings us this fantastic drone video of one of Germany's most well-known football stadiums: Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart.  The original stadium dates to 1933.  It has since been heavily modified on numerous occasions, most recently in a major facelift which was completed in 2011.  Easily recognizable by its unique fabric roof, the venue holds up to about 60k fans, limited to about 55k for international matches.  Its home team is VfB Stuttgart, part of the Bundesliga League.

Pfalzgrafenstein is a fortification on a small island of the River Rhine in Western Germany, roughly halfway between (upstream) Mainz and (downstream) Koblenz.  Seen in this drone video by Never Stop Exploring, it was erected in the early 14th century on the orders of Ludwig the Bavarian, shortly before he became Holy Roman Emperor.  Its original purpose was to collect tolls on river traffic, which it could impose by virtue of the cataracts just downstream which would require ships to pass between the fortress and the mainland.  

Summer time in Germany is a magical time of year.  In this drone video by contributor roadventures.world, you'll get some great aerial views of a town in the western part of the country, taken at the height of a glorious summer.  It's a municipality called Herschweiler-Pettersheim, and it is situated in the soouthwestern part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.  Part of the Palatinate historical region (also sometimes known as the Rhenish Palatinate), Herschweiler-Pettersheim dates to the Antiquity.  

To see how far the art of cinematic first person view (FPV) drone content has evolved, check out this amazing piece by top AirVuz contributor rememorales.  Working with travel company Beautiful Destinations, he used FPV drones to give us a tour of the German amusement park Phantasialand.  Opened in 1967, the park is located in the town of Brühl in the western state of North Rhine Westphalia.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch and was also selected as the Winner of the Drone Video of the Week contest in November, 2021.  

The southwest German state of Baden-Württemberg was a creation of the post-World War II world, when three states agreed to merge shortly after the creation of West Germany.  The state is home to a number of medium-sized cities, but its southern reaches are quite rural.  This area, which features beautiful gently rolling hills dotted with small towns, is the subject of this beautiful drone video by Maciej Ziomber.  It was filmed in the area around Obernheim, a town in the Zollernalbkreis District.

FPV pilots are continually coming up with creative new uses for their mini-quads.  One of them is to use their FPV drones to create aerial "city tours" that have a much different look and feel compared to "traditional" drone videos.  Here is an excellent example by AirVuz contributor MiLiKo, who brings us an FPV tour of a famous street called Schloßstrasse in Koblenz, Germany.  The street is the main shopping district in the city, which is located at the junction of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. 

Get a unique perspective of the historical city of Esslingen am Neckar, Germany in this fantastic FPV drone video by AirVuz contributor minidrone.studio.  The city is located on the Neckar River, about 14 km (around 9 mi.) southeast of central Stuttgart in the western state of Baden-Württemberg.  An important market town and later a Free Imperial City during the Middle Ages, the city was devastated during the Thirty Years' War of the 17th century.  This video earned our contributor a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in July, 2020. 

Talented content creator and pilot seb-depp brings us this excellent aerial view of a "fairy-tale" castle in Western Germany.  It's called Sababurg, and it's located in an upland area in the state of Hesse, near the geographic center of the country.   Originally constructed in the first part of the 14th century, it was reconstructed as a hunting lodge about 150 years later.  The castle was extensively restored beginning in the mid-20th century; it's now the site of a luxury hotel and is a popular wedding venue.  

Contributor and pilot Stefan Beumer used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this aerial view of two of Europe's most famous Gothic Revival castles, both of which are located in southwestern Germany.  The first, Lichtenstein Castle, was completed in 1842 on the site of an 11th-century castle.  The second, Hohenzollern Castle, also built on the site of an earlier structure, was completed in 1867.  It was the ancestral seat of the Hohenzollern family, which ruled Prussia and then all of Germany until 1918.

AirVuz contributor and pilot davetke2002 brings us this excellent drone video of the great university city of Heidelberg, Germany.  It's located in the southwestern state of Baden-Württemberg, on the banks of the Neckar River (a major Rhine tributary).  The city is perhaps best known as the home of Heidelberg University; founded in 1386, it's the oldest in Germany and one of the oldest in the world.  It's also home to the ruins of Heidelberg Castle, considered one of Germany's most well-known Renaissance structures. 

Check out these beautiful aerial views of Germany's Eifel Mountains, show with the new DJI Mavic Air 2 drone.  The mountains are located in the extreme western part of the country, covering parts of the states of Rhineland-Palatinate and North-Rhine-Westphalia, as well as a portion of eastern Belgium.  The Eifels are part of a larger range of mountains known as the Rhenish Masif or the Rhenish Uplands.  The highest peak of the Eifel range is Hohe Acht, which has an elevation of just under 750 meters above sea level or around 2.45k ft.  

DVA nominated contributor Haussmannvisuals does it again with this stunning DVOW Finalist drone video of Frankfurt, Germany.  Situated on the Main River in the west-central part of the country, Frankfurt is Germany's financial capital and Europe's #2 financial center after London.  The video does a phenomenal job of capturing the vertical architecture of this gleaming city, including the Europaturm TV Tower, Commerzbank Tower, and the European Central Bank headquarters building.  

Germany's Upper Middle Rhine Valley, which covers a roughly 40 mi. (about 65 km) stretch of the great Rhine River in the states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse, is home to a number of famous castles.  In this excellent drone video by AirVuz contributor Conchman, you'll get an aerial view of four of these landmarks, in order of appearance: (1) Schönburg, which sits over the town of Oberwesel; (2) the Marksburg, in the town of Braubach; (3) Pfalzgrafenstein Castle, near the town of Kaub; and (4) Stahleck Castle, in Bacharach.  

Daniel Gavrilas used a GoPro Karma drone to give us this beautiful aerial view of the German Black Forest.  Situated in the state of Baden-Württemberg in the southwestern corner of the country, the Black Forest is the source of countless children's fairytales.   The Black Forest marks the divide between the two great river systems of Central Europe: the Rhine River basin to its west and the Danube River basin to its east.  As can be seen in the video, these forest-covered mountains are interspersed with idyllic small German towns.
