Mexico's Baja and Pacific Coasts from the Sky

Award-winning contributor Postandfly created this stunning drone video descending through the clouds above Acapulco, Mexico.  It's located on a long, shallow Pacific Ocean bay in the state of Guerrero.  One of Mexico's oldest cities, it was founded by Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century.  "Discovered" as a chic beach destination by a number of Hollywood stars beginning in the 1940s, Acapulco became Mexico's first true resort destination. Surrounded by Hills, Acapulco is also a major cruise ship port of call.

Top contributor Postandfly does it again with this epic drone video of Puerto Vallarta, one of Mexico's top tourist destinations.  The city is located about midway down the country's long western (Pacific Ocean) coastline, in the state of Jalisco.  The video contains some amazing aerials of Puerto Vallarta's famous new pier, which was recently rated by CNN as amongst the most beautiful in the world.  Built in 2013, the pier extends into the Bahía de Banderas from the core downtown.

In this drone video by top contributor, you'll see some awesome aerial views of Mexico's Sea of Cortez -the  long body of water which separates Baja California from the Mexican mainland.   Most of its shoreline is lightly populated, and it's known for its tremendously diverse sea life.  The video was filmed from three of the islands which line the western side of this storied body of water, which is called the Gulf of California on the US side of the border: San Jose, San Francisco and Espiritu Santo.

Top AirVuz contributor Inigui brings us this stunning drone video from a beautiful spot on Mexico's Pacific coastline. The DVOW nominated video was filmed around the town of Conchas Chinas, which is located just south of the great beach city of Puerto Vallarta.  Sometimes called the Beverly Hills of Puerta Vallarta, Conchas Chinas takes its name from distinctive looking type of shell which is found on its beaches.  Located in the state of Jalisco, it's part-time residents include many movie stars and other international luminaries.  

Multiple Drone Video of the Week Winner Postandfly brings us this fantastic drone video from Mexico's Baja Peninsula.  The video opens with shots of Playa Balandra, just north of La Paz, on the eastern (Sea of Cortez) side of Baja.  Starting at the 1:04 mark, you'll see the Isla Espíritu Santo and the Isla Partida, two small islands a few mi./km further north.  Other featured locations include Todo Santos, near the southern tip of Baja on its western side (1:33); San Carlos, on Magdalena Bay, also on the western side (1:56); and more.  

Contributor and pilot Legacy Video used a drone to create this amazing aerial tour of Mazatlan, one of the beach cities along Mexico's Pacific coastline.  Mazatlan is located in the state of Sinaloa.  It is situated roughly a third of the way down the Pacific coast, approximately level with the southern tip of Baja California Peninsula.  Legacy used a DJI Phantom 3 drone to create this video of the city, which was founded by the Spanish in 1531 and is one of the oldest cities on Mexico's west coast.  

La Paz is the capital of the state of Baja California Sur, the lower half of Mexico's Baja Peninsula.  Situated on Concepcion Bay which leads into the Gulf of California (also known as the Sea of Cortez), La Paz has seen large increases in tourist traffic in recent years.  Earlier, La Paz was the setting for John Steinbeck's 1947 classic novel The Pearl, one of his only works not set in California. In this drone video by jcreynoso, you'll get a bird's eye view of this amazing city and its surroundings.  

Award-winning contributor used the new DJI Mavic Mini to create this fantastic aerial tour of Los Cabos, Mexico.  Los Cabos is a municipality that covers the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula, which separates the Pacific Ocean from the Sea of Cortez.  Los Cabos includes the two resort towns of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, which are separated by just over 30 km (around 20 mi.) of developed beachfront, plus many km/miles of thus-far undeveloped beachfront on either side of the corridor.  

Contributor Pasquale Josepe created this beautiful aerial tour of Los Cabos, a municipality which is located at the southern tip of Mexico's Baja Peninsula.  Los Cabos is a municipality which was essentially created for tourism.  It includes the resort towns of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo.  While the latter town is centuries old, the area only came into its own in the late 20th century, when the Mexican Government decided to create a tourist zone similar to the area around Cancun on the Yucatan Peninsula.

In this video, Postandfly gives us a bird's eye view of Tijuana, the largest city on Mexico's western coasts.  It's the largest city in the state of Baja California, which extends from the US border to Cabo St. Lucas at the tip of the BC peninsula.  Tijuana is one of the major manufacturing centers of Mexico, and is home to many maquiladora factories.  Most of the video's footage is shot around the city's Pacific Ocean beach coastline.  He also gets some good shots of the giant Plaza Monumental arena.

Former Drone Video of the Week Finalist enriquebarquet brings us this fantastic dronelapse video from the Pacific Ocean beaches of Western Mexico.  The video was filmed in the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo area, a beach district in the state of Guerero, about 260 km (around 150 mi.) up the coast from Acapulco.  Similar to Cabo San Lucas and Cancun albeit on a smaller scale, the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo area initially developed its beach tourism industry under a planned program of investment by the Mexican central government in the 1970's.  

Check out this epic dronie shot from a famous island beach near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, compliments of award-winning contributor and drone pilot Postandfly.    It's part of the Marietas Islands, which lie a few km/mi west of Puerto Vallarta in the state of Nayarit.  The islands were used by the Mexican military for bombings and other test explosions in the early 1900's, forming the giant crater-like formation you will see in the video.  The island was closed to the public due to environmental concerns.  

Award-winning contributor Postandfly created this magnificent highlight reel of drone footage of Mexico's Baja region, a long peninsula which separates the Pacific Ocean from the Sea of Cortez.  Much of the video is focused on the legendary sea mammal wildlife of the region, so you'll get plenty of aerial views of the dolphins, whales, and sea lions.  In terms of inanimate scenery, you will be able to feast your eyes on numerous sea coves, spectacular rock formations, and legendary beaches that abound on and around the Baja Peninsula.  

For a look at the amazing array of Mexican sea life, it's hard to beat this award-winning video by contributor and drone pilot Bryson.  The video, which uses a combination of drone, ground camera, and underwater footage, was shot off of La Paz.  La Paz is on the eastern side of the Baja California peninsula, on the Gulf of California (also known as the Sea of Cortez on the Mexican side of the border).  The aerial/underwater footage of whales, sea turtles, manta rays, and much else is simply spectacular.  

Cabo San Lucas is a resort town located at the southern tip of Mexico's Baja Peninsula.  Cabo has something to offer everyone, from beachgoers to kite surfers, fishermen, off-road adventurers, and cruise ship passengers.  Contributor Douglas Thron used a drone to capture Cabo's flavor from a high end resort on the beach.  The bird's eye views of this beach paradise will help you understand why it is one of the most popular vacation spot in a country which is full of world-class beach destinations.

Contributor and drone pilot Evanthomas1 gives us this epic aerial video of Rosarita, a small beach community on the Pacific Ocean coast of the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico.  It's located just a short distance south of Tijuana, the largest city in BC and the fifth largest metropolitan area in Mexico.  In sharp contrast to the bustling industrial city to its north, Rosarita is a very laid back surfing community, much more akin to one of the LA surfing towns just a short distance further up the coast.  

Check out this drone video of the old city of Acapulco, Mexico by top contributor Postandfly.  Situated on a crescent-shaped bay in the state of Guerrero, Acapulco is one of the oldest cities on Mexico's Pacific coast.  The site was settled in pre-Columbian times, and by the 1530's it was the main Pacific port in the now-colonized Mexico.  The town grew explosively in the 1950's, when it became a playground for the Hollywood set.  In recent years, its tourism has declined due to drug-related violence in the area.

AirVuz contributor Alan Garcia brings us this excellent drone video of Mexico's Arch of Cabo San Lucas, one of the most well-recognized rock formations in the world.  It's located just off the coast of the resort town of Cabo San Lucas, at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula.  This is the spot where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez (aka the Gulf of California).  Popular with both sea lions and tourists, the Arch has helped propel Cabo San Lucas to the top ranks of Mexican beach destinations.  

Award-winning contributor Postandfly created this beautiful drone video of a trip down the Baja Peninsula in western Mexico.  The first stop is the beautiful town of San Ignacio, which lies in the interior of the peninsula, near its north-to-south midpoint.  It's situated on an oasis, on the southern edge of the  El Vizcaíno Biosphere Reserve.  The video also features footage of some of the beaches in Concepcion Bay, which lies a bit south of San Ignacio on the eastern (Sea of Cortez) side of the peninsula.  

Valle de Guadeloupe is an up-and-coming winegrowing region in Baja California, Mexico.  It's situated a short drive north of the port of Ensenada, a somewhat longer distance south of Tijuana.  Over the last several decades, its favorable climatic and soil conditions have led to the establishments of many vineyards and wineries.  Postandfly created this beautiful drone video of the region, which has become a destination vacation spot for wine-lovers and now hosts an annual wine festival.

Award-winning contributor Postandfly brings us one of the first videos show with DJI's Mavic Air 2S drone, which was released in April of 2021.  The video was shot over Mexico's Sea of Cortez, which is the body of water separating the Baja Peninsula from the Mexican mainland and which is known in the USA as the Gulf of California.  The video features outstanding footage of a fin whale, three species of dolphins, sea lions black, stingrays and the islands of Espiritu Santo, San José, Las Animas and San Francisquito.

Contributor and pilot Ridinhigh used a drone to capture one of the most important landmarks in Puerta Vallarta Mexico.  The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe (La Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe) is one of the oldest and largest churches in this beachside city in the state of Jalisco.  It is situated in the city's "old town", and is one of the most prominent landmarks.  The church is distinguished by its wrought iron crown, which was patterned off of a crown worn by the then-Empress of Mexico.  

Here's a nice aerial look at the Mexican beach city of Puerta Vallarta, compliments of Matt Rafferty.  Located near the midpoint in Mexico's Pacific coastline, PV was a sleepy, virtually unknown fishing village until the 1950s, when it became something of a disaffected colony for US writers.  Beginning in the 1960's a number of factors (including the filming of the movie Night of the Iguana nearby) conspired to create a tourism boom which has turned it into one of the country's top beach destinations.  

While Mexico's Baja Peninsula is perhaps most closely associated with the Cabo San Lucas beach/resort complex at its southern tip, the long landform is also home to some natural wonders.  One of them is the wetlands which lie along the peninsula's western (Pacific Ocean) side near the town of San Quintín, about a quarter of the way down from Baja's northern base near the Mexican/US border.  In this excellent drone video by AirVuz contributor Dron Memo, you'll be able to explore this fascinating-looking area from above.  

The area north of Puerto Vallarta has become one of Mexico's up-and-coming surfing destinations.  Sometimes called the Nayarit Riviera, this stretch of the Pacific Ocean is attracting growing interest from the world surfing community, which traditionally has gravitated to the Baja California beach towns.  In this drone video by AirVuz contributor Hellokien, you'll get an aerial glimpse of some longboard surfers riding the waves in this sub-tropical paradise on Mexico's western coastline in the state of Nayarit.  

Puerta Vallarta is one of Mexico's most fabled beach towns.  While much of the recent growth in the area has been in the Nayarit area to the north, the town center continues to be a significant traffic draw.  Amongst the city's most well known landmarks is the Los Muertos Pier, which sits on a beach of the same name.  Designed by a famous Mexican architect, the pier was completed in 2011 alongside a renovation of the boardwalk.  You can see the famous pier from above in this drone video by AirVuz contributor Kasskel.  

Some of the most beautiful beach areas of Mexico are located at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula, which is part of the municipality of Los Cabos.  While the landscape has obviously changed since being developed for tourism in the late 20th century, the region continues to be less densely populated compared to areas like Puerta Vallarta and Cancun.  In this drone video, you'll get a bird's eye view of one of these beaches just as the sun is rising above the Sea of Cortez (aka the Gulf of California).

Contributor Pasquale Josepe brings us this beautiful drone video of one of Mexico's most storied beach destinations: sunny Puerta Vallarta.  Located about midway down Mexico's western coastline in the state of Jalisco, PV is the top tourist destination on the country's Pacific side.  Puerta Vallarta was a sleepy port town until the 1950's, when it bacame something of a haven for American artists and writers.  The rest, as they say, is history; it's now the second largest city in the state, after Guadalajara.  

AirVuz contributor Axlfro used his DJI Phantom 4 to create this beautiful aerial video of Mexico's Cabo San Lucas, the storied resort town at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula.  Home to some of the finest resort properties and beaches in western Mexico, the area was virtually uninhabited until well into the 20th century.  Beginning in the 1970's, like the Cancun area on the other side of the country, Cabo was the beneficiary of a series of initiatives by the Mexican central government to develop its tourism potential. 

Acapulco is a popular beach resort town on the Pacific coat of Mexico, in the state of Guerrero.  Settled since Spanish Colonial times, the city is set in a large bay in front of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains.  Beginning in the 1950's and 60's, the city became one of the first Mexican destination beach towns.  It continues to draw tourists for its nightlife, beaches and golf courses in and around the city. Drone pilot @emotiondrones gives us multiple aerial views of the resorts that surround the bay and its iconic ocean views.  

Take in these beautiful aerial views of a beach on Mexico's Baja Peninsula, compliments of contributor jelipegomez.  The video was filmed along the Playa La Cachora, a stretch of sandy beach on the western (Pacific Ocean) side of the Baja, about 50 mi. (80 km) north Cabo San Lucas.  Playa Cachorra lies along Mexican Federal Highway 19, which connects it to Cabo (at the southern tip of the Baja) as well as to the city of La Paz, which lies a similar distance roughly due north but is on Baja's eastern (Sea of Cortez) side.  

Check out this sunrise aerial view of the legendary Los Cabos beach district in Mexico, compliments of hdprosdroneworks.  The name "Los Cabos" refers to the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula in the western part of the country.  The development of this area into a world-class tourist destination roughly paralleled the growth of Cancun on the Yucatan Peninsula, in which government financial support and infrastructure was used to incentivize developers; the rest, as they say, is history.  

The shoreline surrounding Los Cabos, Mexico, has never looked so good. Brought to us by first person view (FPV) pilot soropeza, this video showcases just why the resort town is such a popular destination. Also known as Cabo San Lucas, it is known for it water-based activities, nightlight, and the incredible open beaches surrounded by intricate cliffs - all of which can be seen here in HD quality. For his efforts, soropeza was rewarded with a spot on the AirVuz FPV Pilots to Watch list in November of 2019. 

Playa Balandra is one of the less well-known beaches on Mexico's Baja Peninsula.  It's located in the state of Baja California Sur, which covers the southern half of the great appendage that runs down the northwestern side of the country.  It is situated a bit to the north of La Paz, the largest city of Baja California and the state capital.  The video uses a mix of drone footage and ground camera footage (including some underwater shots) to bring out the natural beauty of this place, which is known in part for its sea mammal life.  

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor Alpa Drones Mzt brings us this excellent drone video of the fabled beach town of Mazatlán, Mexico.  Mazatlan is located roughly a third of the way down the Pacific coast, in the state of Sinaloa.  It's located across the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California) from the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula at Los Cabos.
