Located about midway down Mexico's western coastline in the state of Jalisco, PV is the top tourist destination on the country's Pacific side. Puerta Vallarta was a sleepy port town until the 1950's, when it bacame something of a haven for American artists and writers. The rest, as they say, is history; it's now the second largest city in the state, after Guadalajara.
