"Siberia" conjures up images of the infamous Gulag prisoner camps of the icy Kolyma gold fields during the worst of the Stalin years in Soviet Russia. In fact, only a tiny percentage of this vast Russian region is anywhere near the Arctic Circle. Western Siberia begins east of the Ural Mountains, and includes the important cities of Novosibirisk (Russia's #3 city by population), Tomsk, and Irkutsk. Its natural scenery includes the fantastically remote Altai range, the deep waters of Baikal (one of the world's greatest lakes), enormous rivers, and of course endless stretches of forests and tundra. Here are the best drone videos from this fantastic land, whose development is often compared to that of the American West.
