Greece's Ionian Sea islands are not as numerous or as well known as the islands which lie to the east and southeast of the mainland in the Aegean Sea. The region consists of seven major islands just west of the mainland in the Ionian Sea, which like the Aegean Seas is considered an extension of the Mediterranean: Corfu, Paxos, Lefkas, Ithaca, Cephalonia, Zante, and Zythera (note that these are their English names). These islands (plus a number of smaller surrounding islands) reflect a blend of Greek and Italian cultures and are home to some of the world's best beaches: Navagio on Zante is #5 on the Forbes list of the world's 50 best beaches . Here are the best videos of this region, sometimes known as the "Seven Islands".
