The Best of Spain by Drone

Soar over the sights of Spain in this compilation video, which was created with footage from the various Spain drone video collections at AirVuz.  You'll be treated to bird's eye views of famous Spanish destinations such as the Alhambra Fortress, Barcelona, the Bay of Biscay, the Pyrenees Mountains, and more.

Contributor and drone pilot Marco G. Lerin traveled in a van for three months throughout the great Southern European nation of Spain.  This incredibly inspiring travel film blends the natural beauty of the Iberian Penninsula and adds a human element, woven together with beautifully edited transitions.  The video was nominated as a finalist for the Drone Video of the Week contest, and subsequently was picked as a Finalist in the Originality category for the second annual Drone Video Awards. 

Take an aerial tour of Spain with a DJI Mavic Air drone in this DVOW nominated video by AirVuz contributor and pilot ViDeo Creator jP.  The video opens with an epic shot of the Plaza de España in the great Andalusian (southern) city of Seville.  Next up is the hilltop fortress Alcázar of Toledo, followed by the famous windmills of Consuegra.  Other featured locations include the Puente Nuevo bridge in the great southern city of Ronda, the "white city" of Zahara de la Sierra in the province of Cádiz, the Toledo Cathedral, and more.  

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor Vlyingdrone brings us this fantastic drone video compilation from Spain.  The video opens with a shot of the Tibidabo Amusement Park overlooking Barcelona, followed by a view of the famous Puente Nuevo bridge in the Andalusian city of Ronda.  Next up is Barcelona's Sagrada Família cathedral, construction of which began in the 1880's and is just now nearing completion.  Other locations include the southern port city of Malaga, the great monastery of Montserrat, the Pyrenees Mountains, and more.

The modern nation of Spain is comprised of 17 semi-automous regions, each with its own distinct history, culture, and geography.  Drone pilot Alin Constantin took a trip through Spain with his new bride and managed to cover many unique spots in this very large country.  This excellent video from the trip includes footage from top sights all over Spain, including the port city of Valencia, the interior city of Cordoba, the capital city of Madrid, the great southern city of Granada, and much more.  

Here's a great aerial reel from Spain, compliments of new contributor MadameDrone.  Shot with a DJI Inspire 2, the reel features a variety of landscape, urban, and action shots from across the great Southern European country.  You'll see everything from hilltop castles and fortresses to snow-capped mountains, giant reservoir lakes, and important cultural sites like the Windmills of Conseguera - the inspiration for Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes - perhaps the greatest work of Spanish literature.  

Check out this amazing demo reel from Spain, compliments of AirVuz contributor dronesbarcelona.  The video features a mix of landscape, urban, people, and action shots taken across the giant Southern European country.  You'll see some of the country's famous beaches, rocky coastlines, coastal plains, and interior mountains.  Action shots include some great footage of various boats and ships including an old-style sailing ship, whitewater rafting, a music concert, a swimming event, and even a vintage plane taking off.    

Contributor theflyingshoes provides aerial videography services in Spain.  Their 2018 reel shows the broad range of their work, which includes landscapes, vehicle-oriented action shots involving cars and boats, and "people shots" including a great ziplining shot and even a bullfighter.  It also shows off the brilliant Spanish coastlines and some of the beauty of its vast interior.  The video was picked by the AirVuz editorial staff as a Finalist for the Drone Video of the Week in June, 2019.

Take in these stunning drone video from northern Spain, compliments of talented AirVuz contributor davidpardo71.  The video opens with some excellent shots of the country's rockly coastline on the Bay of Biscay (also known as the Cantabrian Sea), before heading a bit south into the Cantabrian Mountains, which run parallel to the northern coast.  From there, you'll head east into the Pyrenees Mountains, which reach heights of up to 11.2k ft. above sea level (around 3.4k m) and which form the natural boundary between Spain and France.  

Take in these stunning aerial views from an eight-day trip through Spain in the Summer of 2019, compliments of contributor antoncha. Featured locations include the Montserrat Monastery in Catalonia, the parish of Covadonga in the northwestern region of Asturias, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe and Butrón Castle in the Basque Country region, the Bardenas Reales desert in the northern region of Navarre, the town of Villajoyosa in the Alicante Province in the east-central Valencia Region, and more. Andalusia is a historical and official semi-autonomous region of Spain, its  southernmost.  Andalusia was the center of Muslim (Berber) rule in Spain, which began in the 8th century and didn't fully end until the end of the 15th.  Top AirVuz contributor and pilot hamzamuj created this epic aerial tour of the region with a drone, which includes aerial footage of Malaga, Almogia, Granada and Cordoba.  Andalusia has been used extensively as a filming location for HBO's Game of Thrones, notably in Seville and Cordoba.

Contributor and drone pilot Hispadrone created this epic aerial video of some of the castles of central Spain.  The modern nation of Spain emerged from the region of Castile & Leon in the north central section of the country.  The region is surrounded by mountains, which served as a protective barrier and allowed the kingdoms of Castile & Leon to accumulate strength to eventually expel the Muslim states to the south.   Key to this process was the castles situated in the key mountain passes, some of which you'll see in this video.  

In this video, contributor Danielcarboneras brings us a stunning aerial look at Asturias, a semi-autonomous region in the heart of northwestern Spain.  Situated between the regions of Galicia to its west and Cantabria to its east, Asturias is dominated by a long Atlantic coastline on the Bay of Biscay.  The region, which has a hilly interior, has had human activity dating to pre-historic times, and was conquered by the Romans in the first century BC.  The video was shot with a DJI Phantom 4 Pro.  

Former Drone Video of the Week Winner davidpardo71 brings us this stunning drone video of a pair of locations in central Spain.  The first location is the town of Albarracín, which is nestled in the Sierra de Albarracín mountains about 160 mi. (280 km) due east of Madrid in the province of Teruel, part of the Aragon region.  Just before the :45 mark, you'll see the second featured location, which lies a bit north of the first: the medieval Castle of Zafra in the Province of Guadalajara, part of the region of Castilla–La Mancha.    

The province of La Mancha is part of the Castilla-La Mancha region of central Spain.  In this drone video by eminorcks, you'll see one of the provinces most famous sights: a line of 12 tower mills atop the mountain of Cerro Caldericoof.  The so-called Consuegra Windmills are believed to be those described in the epic novel Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes, one of the great works of Western literature.   Published in two parts in 1605 and 1615, the novel gave birth to the phrase "tilting at windmills."   

Top contributor and pilot Karl Veca put together this wonderful drone video from Spain's storied Cantabria region.  Cantabria is both a semi-autonomous region and a province in the northwestern part of Spain, between the Asturias and Basque Country regions.  Cantabria features a stunning coastline along the Bay of Biscay with a chain of mountains running just south of the coast.  The region is known for its distinctive-looking coastal cliffs and rock formations, as well as the lush greenery of the Cantabria Mountains.  

Top AirVūz contributor and drone pilot PinpinBobis used his DJI Mavic Pro 2 to create this stunning masterpiece of the canyons of Grand Canary Island (Gran Canaria).  Gran Canaria is the second-most populous of the Canary Islands, the Atlantic Ocean archipelago off the coast of Northern Africa which is part of Spain.  Gran Canaria is also called the "miniature continent" due to its unique variety of landscapes and climates. This video earned a Drone Video of the Week nomination in October of  2020. 

Top contributor and Drone Video Award Finalist ZilverSchmitz used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this marvelous aerial tour of Galicia, the northwesternmost region of Spain.  One look at a map will suggest that this is a very distinctive region - its border with Portugal (to the south) is as long as its borders with fellow Spanish regions, and its coastline is longer than all of its land borders combined.  The video features footage of the country's long coastline as well as some of its cities and towns, including the city of A Coruna.  

Contributor AVEA - Alta Vista Epic Aerials created this memorable aerial video tour of some of the most historic sites in the central part of Spain.  The video includes amazing bird's eye views of Peñarande de Duero, Castillo Peñafiel, Granadilla, Lerma, Arcos de la Frontera, and other locations.  You will be captivated by the tremendous beauty of this area in the heart of the country, which was where the modern nation of Spain emerged from a collection of smaller kingdoms, duchies, and other smaller states.

Alvaro55 used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone to create this marvelous aerial tour of the rural landscapes in Spain's Basque Country.  Basque Country is a historical region which covers the areas around the "corner" of the Bay of Biscay, on both the French and Spanish sides of the border.  Geographically isolated, the territory was late to be conquered by Rome and then never fully subjugated compared to the rest of France and Spain.  These and related factors combined to produce a highly distinctive, seafaring culture.  

Contributor andrey_stepanov brought a DJI Spark on a trip to northern Spain to create this marvelous video.  The video features three locations (1) Ordesa National Park in the Pyrenees, specifically in the Juesca province of Aragon, (2) As Catedrais beach in the Lugo province of Galicia, and (3) the tiny islet of San Juan de Gaztegulatxe near the town of Zumaia in Basque Country, made famous by appearing in the HBO Game of Thrones TV series.

AirVuz creator, drone pilot, and 2023 DVOY nominee Ananda Joinet brings us this fantastic aerial video of the other-worldly Bardenas Reales, a semi-arid region in the northern part of Spain.  The Bardenas Reales is situated in the semi-autonomous region Navarre, which is largely Basque-speaking but is not part of the official Basque Country region.  The highly distinctive rock structures which characterize the Bardenas Reales are a function of the area's unusual soil composition as well as wind and water erosion patterns.  

Featured in Season 6 of the hit HBO series "Game of Thrones," the lunar landscape of Bardenas Reales Natural Park's in Spain's Navarre region was a perfect filming location for the Dothraki's home.  James Bond fans will also recognize the area: it was the site of the "nuclear bunker" in The World is Not Enough (1999), the 21st movie in the series.  Check it out for yourself in this aerial film by Heilongbaixin, which also features footage of the Anisco Canyon in Huesca, which is part of the Aragon region.  

Check out this fantastic drone video of one of Europe's most famous medieval castles, compliments of contributor Michael Visual.  Spain's Alcázar of Segovia is located about 60 mi. (95 km) northwest of Madrid.  It was built in the 12th century on the ruins of an old Roman fortification situated at the confluence of the Eresma and Clamores Rivers.  A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Alcázar served as an important royal residence, first for the rulers of Castile and later for the kings and queens of the nation-state of Spain.    

Former DVOW Finalist Feeling Drone - Guillermo García brings us this excellent video from the Valencia Region of eastern Spain.  The video was created with drone footage from a DJI Mini 2 and a DJI Air 2S and complemented with some ground camera shots.  Starting at the :34 mark, you'll see the Vilafamés Castle, which sits atop a hill in the province of Castellón.  At 1:04, you'll see the castle of Peniscola, on the Castellón coastline.  Other highlights include a pair of windmills at the 1:40 and some great shots of cliffs and waterfalls. 

The Pyrenees Mountains, by which the Iberian Peninsula attaches to the rest of mainland Europe, are not the Alps.  With a maximum altitude of about 3.4k meters above sea level (around 11.1k ft), even the highest peaks of this range are generally accessible by (physically fit) hikers.  Even in the snow, as top AirVuz contributor and pilot Karl Veca shows us in this great video of an epic hike in the Spanish Pyrenees.  It was created with a DJI Mavic Pro drone supplemented with GoPro ground footage.  

Almeria is one of the provinces of Spain's Andalusia region in the southern part of the country.  Its inland territory is extremely dry and mountainous, which has made it an attractive filming location, beginning with the 1966 classic The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and more recently in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989).  Contributor Sartanafc created this epic drone video of the region, which was also the home of the Dathraki horsemen in Seasons 5 and 6 of HBO's Game of Thrones TV series. 

Contributor JB Meert used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone combined with ground camera footage to make this remarkable video of the heart of Spain.  The video covers a trip to the Spanish capital Madrid followed by the great cultural treasure of Segovia, which lies a bit to the north of the capital.  The Madrid footage includes epic aerials of the Royal Palace, the Puerta del Sol, and other well known spots.  The highlight of the Segovia portion is an amazing view of its Alcazar, one of the most famous palaces in Europe.

Check out this beautiful DVOW Finalist drone video of Barcelona, Spain, compliments of Mi Girano Forte.  The video opens with some epic footage of the city's Columbus Monument on the La Rambla thoroughfare.  From there you'll see Barcelona Cathedral, the ultra-modern W Barcelona Hotel tower, the spectacular (yet still not finished) Sagrada Familia, the Torre Glòries, the Venetian Towers, the Arc de Triomf over the Passeig de Lluís Companys promenade, the Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor, and more.  

Nearly 25% of Spain's nearly 50 million people live in its two largest cities, Madrid and Barcelona, which have become population magnets from the country's rural provinces.  Madrid, the larger of the two, is the capital city and lies in the center of the country.  Barcelona is the capital of the semi-aotonomous Catalonia region and sits on the Mediterranean coast.  Contributor Michaelkim_kor spent some time traveling in Spain with a drone, and created this amazing aerial video of the country's two great cities.  

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor vdelfilms brings us this excellent drone video from one of the great cultural treasures of Spain: the Royal Site of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, better known simply as El Escorial.  Located less than an hour's drive northwest of Madrid, the heart of the complex is a royal monastery constructed on the orders of Spanish King Philip II during the latter half of the 16th century, during the height of Spanish power.  Among other distinctions, it's the largest Renaissance-era structure in the world.  

Costa Brava is a coastal region of Catalonia in the far northeastern corner of Spain.  The area covers the coastline of the province of Girona, from Blanes to the French border.  With a fantastic Mediterranean climate, it has become a major tourist destination for beach-seeking travelers in Europe and around the world.  Contributor Dronewise used a DJI Phantom 4 drone to create this amazing aerial view of this magic Mediterranean beach paradise, which is frequently compared to the French Riviera.  

Valencia is the third-largest city of Spain, after Madrid and Barcelona.  It is situated around the midway point of Spain's long coastline on the Mediterranean Sea.  Valencia has one of the finest natural harbors in Europe, and it is the biggest port for containerships in the Mediterranean.  Top contributor Justin Poore used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to to make this amazing aerial portrait of the ancient city, the heart of a semi-autonomous region by the same name which has a very distinctive culture.

The great city of Toledo is considered one of the top 2-3 cultural treasures of Spain.  It's the capital of its namesake province, the westernmost of the five which make up the Castilla-La Mancha region in the central part of the country.  Toledo was an outpost of Islamic rule of Spain then became one of the first cities "reconquered" by Christianity.  In this video, you'll see this ancient city, which was one of the most important in Europe during the reign of the Habsburg Emperor Charles V in the 16th century.

Barbate is a small city in Cádiz, the southernmost province of Spain.  The town is situated roughly halfway between the province capital (also called Cádiz) and the British-held territory of Gibraltar.  While the town dates to Roman times, it became more well known in the 20th century because it was Spanish dictator Francisco Franco's favorite spot for spending his leisure time.  See Barabate from a bird's eye perspective in this beautiful drone video, compliments of contributor Davidaguilar. 

The second largest of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura is a popular tourist destination because of its white-sand beaches and year-round warm temperatures coupled with its constant cooling winds. Situated in the Atlantic Oean just 60 miles off the coast of Africa, this gorgeous island is known for its excellent water sport conditions. IVAL PhotoVideo combined nearly 200 videos to create this piece that highlights the island from the perspective of the Mavic 2 Pro.  This was a DVOW Finalist in March, 2019.

One of Spain's Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean, Mallorca, (sometimes also called Majorca), is known as a popular vacation destination for European travelers of all stripes. Its stunning cliffs, deep lagoons, historic sites, architecture, and sandy beaches also make it a perfect place to fly a small drone like the DJI Mavic Air.  Exhibit A is this marvelous mini-tour of the island by Paride Musci.  This video was selected as a Finalist for the AirVuz Drone Video of the Week contest in 2018.

For a great two minute overview tour of the Spanish island of Menorca, it's tough to beat this production from WeiS Productions.  Produced with  combination of ground camera and drone footage, the video hits most of the highlights of this island, the second-largest and easternmost of the Balearic Islands group in the western Mediterranean Sea.  The video features footage of Cala Macareletta, Playa de Cavalleria, Faro de Cavalleria, Binibeca, Cala Galdana, Cala Roja, Cala Carella, Cala en Turqueta, and more.  

Contributor and drone pilot Eminorcks created this spectacular aerial video of one of the great fortresses of Europe.  The Alhambra of Granada lies in the province of the same name, one of the eight which make up the Andalusia region of Southern Spain.  It is the site of one of the more notable historical events of the second millennium AD: in 1492, Spain's King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella gave the Italian explorer Christopher Columbus the go-ahead for his first great voyage in which he "discovered" the New World.

AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Lucaputzer brings us this fantastic drone video of Tenerife, the largest and most populous member of Spain's Canary Islands archipelago off the coast of North Africa.  Fimed with a DJI Mavic Pro 3 drone, the video opens with a beautiful view of the Roque Cinchado rock formation in th middle of the island, with Mt. Teide (Spain's highest mountain) in the background.  Other highlights include the town of Puerto de la Cruz, on the island's northern side, as well as some magnificent coastline shots.
