Drone Videos of Southeastern Brazil

Get a comprehensive aerial tour of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in this fantastic drone video by top AirVuz contributor el gringo rojo.  This DVOW winning video was shot over the course of a five-week stay in Brazil's second-largest city and cultural capital.  The video features footage from hikes to the Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor) statue, Pedra Bonita, and Dois Irmoas.  You'll also be treated to footage of the aqueducts in Lapa, the Museum of Tomorrow, Parque Lage, and Sugarloaf Mountain (Pao De Azucar), as well as some of Rio's famous beaches. 

The state of Rio de Janeiro in southeastern Brazil has the most international visitors of any state in the country.  In part this is because of the great city (and provincial capital) of the same name, but it goes well beyond that.  Drone pilot Theirry Paris channeled his love for his home state in this Drone Video of the Week nominee, which showcases his impressive flying, superb editing, and discriminating eye for the best sights of this magnificent state, which is part of the official Southeast region of Brazil.  

Southeastern Brazil is home to the country's two primary urban centers: Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.  Each is capital of a state with the same name, and the cities are "only" about 435 km (around 250 mi) apart - practically neighbors by the enormous scale of Brazil.  The two cities are a study in contrasts - Rio being the cultural capital of Brazil (as well as its capital city until 1960), Sao Paulo the business capital.  In this video, Mr. B gives us an aerial view of both of these great cities - from the perspective of a drone.  

Check out this stunning aerial reel from across the great Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro.  Shot with a DJI Phantom 4 drone, the video features footage from across RJ, which is amongst the smallest of the Brazilian states by land area but third in population, after São Paulo and Minas Gerais.  The reel contains a mix of urban, landscape, and "action" shots, ranging from outdoor music concerts to surfing.  At about the 1:30 mark, there's a great shot of Sugarloaf Mountain in the city of Rio.

Contributor and drone pilot Daniel Molina took this beautiful drone video of some islands off the coast of southeastern Brazil in the state of Rio de Janeiro.   Despite its long Atlantic coastline, Brazil has comparatively few islands - far fewer than Venezuela, for example.  In this video, you'll see one of the main concentrations of islands, around Cabo Frio.  Cabo Frio is a medium-sized city located on a cape (peninsula) of the same name, a bit to the east of the state's capital (and by far largest city) Rio de Janeiro.  

Top contributor RG Cam brings us this fantastic drone video of the historic city of Ouro Preto, Brazil.  Situated in the interior state of Minas Gerais, Ouro Preto was the center of the Brazilian Gold Rush which began in the late 17th century and resulted in nearly 30 million ounces of the yellow metal being extracted.  Situated in the Serra do Espinhaço mountains, Ouro Preto was the state capital until the founding of the city of Belo Horizonte in the late 19th century.  Ouro Preto has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.  

RG CAM created this spectacular aerial view of the 124th anniversary of one of the youngest cities in Brazil.  Belo Horizonte is the capital of the state of Minas Gerais in southeastern Brazil, the second largest state in the country.  Belo Horizonte is the sixth- largest city in Brazil, and its metropolitan area is the third largest after Rio and Sao Paulo.  The city as it exists today was built as part of a plan for a new state capital to replace the gold mining town Ouro Preto, which lies to its southeast.  

Check out this amazing aerial tour of the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, compliments of top contributor Thierry Paris.  It's the most well known of Brazil's 27 states, even if it's only the third largest by population (Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais are more populous.  THe video features aerial footage of some of the top sopts in the state, including the Rio-Niterói Bridge, Cabo Frio, Buzios, Urca,  and spots within the city of Rio de Janeiro.  The city of Rio is the state capital and was the national capital until the 1960's.  

Top contributor Fabio Knoll created this epic drone video of a spectacular geological site called Pedra Grande (translated: Big Rock) in Brazil's southeastern state of Sao Paulo.  It's near a town called Atibaia, which is situated due north of the Sao Paulo state capital (of the same name, which is also Brazil's - and South America's - largest city).  Set amongst rolling verdant hills, the exposed face of Pedra Grande makes for some compelling viewing, especially seen from an aerial point of view! 

Rio de Janeiro is not just Brazil's second largest city; the province by the same name is the country's second largest state, with 17 million people as of 2018.  It covers a land area of about 43.7 square km (just under 17k square mi.), most of it looks far different than places like Copacabana Beach, Niteroi, and Sugarloaf Mountain.  Award-winning contributor Fabio Knoll created this epic drone video of a very old tower in a beautiful area in the state's interior, well west of the city which is also the state capital.  

Drone Da Montanha created this epic drone video of one of the highest mountain peaks in Brazil.  Mt. Prateleiras is part of Itatiaia National Park, which is located west of the city of Rio de Janeiro and straddles the states of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais to its north and west, two of the four states of Brazil's Southeast region.  The mountain chain in the park is the Mantiqueira Mountains, whose runoff feeds the Rio Grande River.  The mountain rises to an altitude of about 2.5k meters above sea level, or just over 8k ft.

Escuna Cavendish is a small resort town situated on the Brazilian Atlantic Coast in the state of Rio de Janeiro, approximately halfway between the giant metropolitan cities of Rio de Janeiro to the north and Sao Paulo to the south.  It's part of the region known as the Costa verde (Green Coast).  Emotiondrones used a drone and groound cameras to create this mesmerizing travel video of the area, giving us bird's eye views of the stunning dark green waters of this tropical paradise on the Atlantic Ocean.

Check out these stunning drone views from a mountain trail in Southeastern Brazil, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot LPHOTO TRILHAS E MONTANHAS.  It's called the Travessia Petrópolis-Teresópolis, and it runs for about 16 mi. (around 25 km) through the Serra dos Órgãos mountain range in the central part of the state of Rio de Janeiro.  The elevation change along the trail is about 4.2k ft. (about 1.25k m), making for an extremely challenging trek.  The trail and range is part of the Serra dos Órgãos National Park.    

Top contributor Thierry Paris used a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone to give us this beautiful look at the rural side of Brazil's state of Rio de Janeiro, the third largest of the country's 26 states by population.  The town of Sumidouro is well in the interior of the state, lying north-northeast from the provincial capital city Rio de Janeiro.  Thierry's "day on the farm" provides some amazing bird's eye views of this part of the state of RJ, an area of spectacular mountains, waterfalls, alpine valleys, and horses.  

While the Carnival celebration is closely associated with Rio de Janeiro, it is exuberantly celebrated throughout Brazil.  In this drone video, contributor RG CAM was able to capture the Carnival celebrations in the city of Belo Horizonte, the third largest city of the officially recognized region of Southeastern Brazil after Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.  Belo Horizonte is the capital of the state of Minas Gerais, which is the country's second most-populous after the state of Sao Paulo.

Check out this fantastic aerial view of the port city of Santos in Southeastern Brazil by Phil2go2019.  The city lies in the state of the São Paulo, just southeast of the state's namesake capital city (and the country's largest).  The main part of the city shares the island of São Vicente with the island's namesake city.  Established by the Portuguese in the 16th century, Santos is home to the busiest container port in South America and the continent's second-largest port as measured by overall freight tonnage.  

The Christ the Redeemer Statue (Cristo Redentor) sits atop Corcavado Mountain overlooking Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  The view of this landmark situated above the city's harbor is one of the most iconic sights in Brazil, and it's been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage cultural site.  In this memorable video, contributor and pilot Droneaventura flew a drone over the famous edifice, creating a spectacular view of the 1930's era Art Deco masterpiece and the amazing coastal city lying beneath it.

Take a 60 second aerial tour of Sao Paulo, Brazil in this beautiful piece by marcoobezerra.  It features the Octavio Frias de Oliveira bridge (Ponte Estaida); Avenida Paulista, one of the city's main thoroughfares; Viaduto do Cha, the city's first viaduct, completed in 1892; Teatro Municipal, the city's great opera house, which opened in 1911; the Basilica of the Most Blessed Sacrament (Igreja de Santa Ifigenia); the Farol Santander skyscraper; and the Brazilian history museum Museo de Iparanga.  

Check out this beautiful drone video of a town in Southeastern Brazil, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot DINHO (FPV-FILMS).  It was filmed in Cariacica, a commune in Espirito Santo, the state which sits between the much larger states of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.  It lies about 10 km (around 6 mi.) northwest of the state capital Vitória, and is considered part of the Greater Vitória metropolitan area.  The town's name derives from the Tupiniquim Indians who once had their own here; it translates to "arrival of white men".     

Contributor Dinho brings us this beautiful aerial view of Vitória, the capital of Brazil's state of Espírito Santo.   Espírito Santo is a largely coastal state, one of the four which make up Brazil's Southeast region.  Its capital city is on an island in Vitória's Bay, an estuary formed by several of the region's rivers.  The center of a metropolitan area of about two million, Vitória was founded by the Portuguese in the 1500's and is one of the country's wealthiest cities.  

Top contributor Fabio Knoll created this beautiful drone video of São Lourenço, a city in the Minas Gerais state of Southeastern Brazil.  It's located in the southern part of this landlocked state, more or less equidistant from Brazil's two largest cities: São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.  The city hosts a number of annual festivals (the most well-known of which is the Cachaça Festival), and has become a tourist destination especially from the two gigantic cities, each of which is roughly a four hour drive away.  

Blessed with massive rivers, the huge and largely industrialized country of Brazil relies on hydropower for an astounding three quarters of its electricity supply.  That's more than any other major country.  Not surprisingly, giant hydropower projects on major rivers represent some of the most important infrastructure assets in the country.  In this video, contributor Sparkers used a drone to aerially film one of these projects, the Represa Itupararanga Votorantim dam in the state of Sao Paulo. 

ARDrone created this beautiful aerial video of Vila Velha, a city on the coast of Southeastern Brazil.  It's in the state of Espírito Santo, the smallest of the four which make up the official region of Southeastern Brazil.  Vila Velha lies across a large river estuary from the state capital of Vitória.  While Espírito Santo is a relatively small state, most of its land area is on or near the coast.  The economy of the state is largely driven by tourism and activity related to its ports, some of the largest in South America.  

Serra dos Órgãos is a mountain range in the Serra dos Órgãos National Park of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It's in the center of the state, west of the city of Rio (the state capital and Brazil's #2 city).  It became a park in 1939 as a means to protect the beautiful mountains and the headwaters of the rivers that flow into the Fluminense basin.  Its beauty can be seen in this narrative piece by DRONE DA MONTANHA, where our pilot follows a rock climber on his journey to conquer Escalavrado - the Big Wall.

Check out this awesome drone video of some well-known sand dunes near the Brazilian city of Cabo Frio, compliments of contributor Proliaz.  They are part of a park on this cape in the Atlantic Ocean.  It's in the state of Rio de Janeiro in Southeastern Brazil, more or less due east from the eponymously named state capital city.  The cape marks a point where the coastline switches to an east-west orientation; west of the city of Rio the coastline begins to bend to the southwest, forming a large but shallow crescent centered on the city of São Paulo.

Take in these stunning drone views of Brazil's Ihla Grande island, compliments of AirVuz contributor Aerial Perspective.  Ilha Grande is located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, roughly halfway between the state's (namesake) capital city and São Paulo.  One of Brazil's largest islands, Ilha Grande covers a bit under 200 square km or around 75 square mi. For much of its history, the island was off-limits to tourism: it was a leper colony and then a top-security prison.  Since the latter closed in 1994, it's become a populist tourist spot.  

Niterói is a sort of (much smaller) twin to the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, the second largest in this giant South American country.  It sits across the great Guanabara Bay from the larger city, a sort of Oakland to the San Francisco of Rio.  The area is sometimes used to define the larger area on the east side of its bay, only part of which is in the Niterói city limits.  In this drone video by Digital Peace, you'll get a nice aerial view of the beaches on the Niterói side of the great bay, north and east of central Rio.  

For a first upload to AirVuz, uelitonsilva brings us this inspiring drone video of Santos, Brazil during the Covid-19 pandemic.  The great port city is situated in the southeastern state of São Paulo.  Shot with a DJI Mavic Pro 2, the first part of the video is in black and white to accentuate the cloudy day that dawned here, and finishes in color as blue skies appeared before sunset.  The shift symbolizes the better days which lie ahead for Brazil, which in late May, 2020 became the #2 country in confirmed coronavirus infections.

Enjoy these beautiful aerial views of Brazil's Serra da Bocaina National Park, compliments of AirVuz contributor LPHOTO TRILHAS E MONTANHAS.  The park lies on the border between the states of  Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in the southeastern part of the country.  The park is named for the Bocaina Mountains, which reach altitudes of up to about 7k ft. above sea level (around 2.2k m).  Established in 1971, the park covers over 400 square mi. (around 1.05k square km) and is noted for its biodiversity.

Award-winning contributor Fabio Knoll created this beautiful drone videos of a famous rock formation in Southeast Brazil.  It's called the Pedra do Baú, and it's located in the municipality of São Bento do Sapucaí in the state of São Paulo.  The rocks are situated in the Mantiqueira Mountains, which cover parts of the São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Minais Gerais states.  With an elevation of just under 2k meters (aboutk ft.), Pedra do Baú is now part of a national monument.  

Check out this drone video of the port of Vitória, Brazil compliments of contributor DINHO (FPV-FILMS).  It's actually one of two ports in and around the city, the capital of the state of Espírito Santo in the country's Southeast region.  The other is the Port of Tubarão, which primarily focuses on exports of iron ore, one of Brazil's top three commodity exports along with soybeans and oil.  Together, Vitória's ports are amongst the busiest and most important in this giant South American country.

For a first upload to AirVuz, brand-new contributor VitorMarfioso brings us this excellent drone video from the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais.  Minas Gerais is one of the four states which make up Brazil's Southeastern Region, and it's the only one which is landlocked.  It's Brazil's second-largest state by land area, and its capital city Belo Horizonte is one of Brazil's half-dozen largest cities.  Shot with a DJI Mavic 3 drone, the video features a mix of footage from rural and urban sections of the state.  

Contributor Luiz Gerbase created this excellent drone video of Paraty, a well preserved Portuguese colonial city in Southeastern Brazil.  It's located on a stretch of coastline known as Costa Verde, on the western side of the Bay of Ilha Grande.  The entire area is part of the state of Rio de Janeiro, close to the border with the neighboring state of Sao Paulo.  Paraty was one of the earliest Portuguese settlements in the Western Hemisphere.  The city center has recently been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. 

Check out this fascinating drone video of downtown Sao Paulo, Brazil, compliments of contributor and pilot djijohnnydrum.  It opens with a shot of the Altino Arantes Building, the city's tallest from 1947-1965.  Starting at the 2:10 mark, you'll get a nice view of the lkandmark Theatro Municipal,  which was completed in 1911 and was the site of the now-legendary Modern Art Week exhibit in 1922.  You;ll also see some shots along Avenida Paulista, the main thoroughfare of Brazil's largest city.

  brings us this stunning drone video from Brazil's oldest national park.  It's called Itatiaia National Park, and it's located in the Mantiqueira Mountains, which straddle the states of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais.  The video features footage of some rock climbers on the Pico das Agulhas Negras, which has a summit elevation of just under 9.2k ft. above sea level (around 2.8k m) and is the highest point in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

For a first upload to AirVuz, brand-new contributor fchulam brings us this excellent drone video of a tiny island off the coast of Brazil.  It's called Ilha de Cataguases, and it's part of the Angra dos Reis municipality in the state of Rio de Janeiro.  The area is part of a stretch of Atlantic Ocean between the cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo where most of Brazil's island's can be found including its largest island, Isla Grande (which lies a bit to the south of Ilha de Cataguases).  

Ubatuba is a coastal municipality in the São Paulo state in Southeast Brazil.  It's situated roughly halfway the city of São Paulo to the south and west and the city of Rio de Janeiro to the east.  The Atlantic coastline around Ubatuba is known for its many inlets, small islands and islets, and glorious secluded beaches.  In this drone video by Viagem a Dois BR, you'll get an aerial view of one of these beaches: Praia da Fortaleza, not to be confused with the large port city of Fortaleza in Brazil's Northeast region.  

Brazil is the world's largest Catholic country, and its Lent festival known as Carnival is one of the most important times in Brazilian culture.  While it's most closely associated with the city of Rio de Janeiro, all of the large Brazilian cities (and most of its smaller ones) have similar festivities before the onset of Lent.  In this remarkable drone video, you'll get an aerial view of Carnaval in Vitória, the capital city of the state of Espírito Santo and the center of one of the 15 largest metropolitan areas in the country.  

Take in these beautiful drone views from a hilly region of Southeastern Brazil, compliments of contributor VitorMarfioso.  The video was filmed around the city of Ribeirão das Neves, which is essentially a satellite city of Belo Horizonte, the capital of the state of Minas Gerais and one of Brazil's half-dozen largest cities.  The Belo Horizonte Metropolitan Area, of which Ribeirão das Neves is part, has a population of around six million as of 2022 and is the third-largest metropolitan area in Brazil after São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Check out these outstanding drone views of Brazil's Canastra Mountains, compliments of AirVuz contributor LPHOTO TRILHAS E MONTANHAS.  The Canastra Mountains are located in Minas Gerais, one of the states of Brazil's Southeastern Region.  The Canastra's reach altitudes of just under 5k ft. above sea level or around 1.5k m.  The video includes some excellent views of the Casca D'Anta waterfall, which is located in the Serra da Canastra National Park and which has a total drop of about 610 ft. or 186 m.  

Former Drone Video of the Week Finalist and Drone Video Award Nominee RG CAM brings us this excellent aerial video of a well-known town in Southeastern Brazil called Betim.  Betim is located just to the southwest of Belo Horizonte, the capital of the state of Minas Gerais and one of Brazil's half-dozen largest cities.  The video was filmed in connection with the town's 83rd anniversary.  Like the rest of Greater BH, Betim is heavily industrialized and is home to some of Brazil's larger factories.  

RVB Drone Studio created this excellent aerial tour of the beaches around the city of Ubatuba in the Sao Paulo state of Brazil.  The area is home to over 100 beaches, most of which have the Serra do Mar Mountains as a backdrop.  Specific beaches featured include Praia de Enseada, Praia do Pereque, Vermelha do Centro, Praia Vermelha do Norte, and Praia do Ubatumiaiam.  The area lies roughly halfway between the cities of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil's largest and second-largest cities, respectively.  

Check out this excellent drone video of a major urban art festival in Brazil, compliments of former Drone Video of the Week Finalist and Drone Video Award Nominee RG CAM.  It's called the Cura Art Festival, and it's a street art festival in Belo Horizonte, the capital of the southeastern state of Minas Gerais and Brazil's sixth-largest city as of 2022.  The festival began in 2017 to highlight the very active street art scene in picturesque Belo Horizonte, one of Brazil's first planned cities.  

Check out this amazing drone video from the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo, compliments of contributor DINHO (FPV-FILMS).  Guarapari lies on the state's Atlantic coastline, towards its southern end.  The town lies a bit under 50 km (around 30 mi.) south of the state capital Vitória, and is considered part of its metropolitan area.  It's well known for its sand, which is naturally radioactive.  While the level of radioactivity is significant compared to typical sand, it is not considered dangerous.  

The state of Espírito Santo is by far the smallest of the four states that make up the Southeastern Region of Brazil.  Of the roughly 4 million people who live here, about half live in the Greater Vitória area.  This metropolitan area includes the cities of Cariacica, Fundão, Guarapari, Serra, Vitória, Vila Velha, and Viana, all of which sit on the estuary of the Santa Maria da Vitória River.  In this drone video by ARdrone, you'll get a bird's eye view of Vila Velha as well as the larger urban area of which it is part. 

Top AirVuz contributor RG CAM brings us this excellent drone video of one of Brazil's most well-known football (soccer) stadiums.  Officially known as the Estádio Governador Magalhães Pinto but commonly known as Mineirão, it's located in the city of Belo Horizonte, capital of the state of Minas Gerais and one of Brazil's half-dozen largest cities.  Opened in 1959 and renovated extensively in 2012, it hosted matches for the 2014 FIFA World Cup as well as some games for the 2016 Summer Olympics.  It currently seats about 62k fans.

Vila Velha is one of the main cities of the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo, the smallest of the four states of Brazil's Southeast region.  It's part of the Greater Vitória metropolitan area, which is home to most of this highly urbanized state's residents.  Vila Velha lies on the south side of Vitória Bay from the larger city; the bay is actually the estuary of the Vitória River. Vila Velha is the state's oldest city, having been founded by the Portuguese explorer Vasco Fernandes Coutinho in 1535.

Check out this drone video of the Brazilian city of São Vicente, compliments of new AirVuz contributor and pilot ozairrao.  São Vicente is a coastal town in the state of São Paulo, which is part of Brazil's Southeastern Region.  The city is considered part of the Baixada Santista urban agglomeration, otherwise known as Greater Santos.  It's located about an hour's drive south of the much larger city of São Paulo.  Founded as a village in 1532, São Vicente was the first permanent Portuguese settlement in the Americas.

Check out this drone video of São Paulo, Brazil by contributor marcoobezerra.  With a city limits population of over 12 million as of 2019, it's the country's largest city, and its metropolitan area of well over 20 million makes it one of the 2-3 largest in the Western Hemisphere.  The capital of the eponymously named state which is sometimes called the "locomotive" of Brazil because of its economic power, Sao Paulo is undoubtedly the country's most important city, even if it's less well known than Rio.

Using a DJI Phantom 4 drone, pilot Daniel Molina captured stunning footage of Brazil’s Ilha Grande, a beautiful island off the coast of Brazil.  It's situated in the state of Rio Grande, a bit to the west of the capital city Rio de Janeiro.  For many years, the island was used as a leper colony, and was off-limits for development.  More recently, it's developed a significant amount of tourist traffic.   As you'll see in the video, this island offers the chance to swim in crystal-blue waters on white sand beaches.

Take in these fantastic aerial views of a giant cruise ship off the coast of Southeastern Brazil, compliments of top contributor RG CAM.  The ship is the MSC Preziosa, a Fantasia-class ship operated by Italy's MSC Cruises.  Christened in 2013, the French-built vessel has a length of just under 1.1k ft. (333 m) and displaces nearly 140k gross tons.  The ship can accommodate up to about 4.3k passengers in addition to a crew of nearly 1.4k.  Its diesel-powered twin propellers can push the ship though the water at speeds of up to 24 knots.
