Drone Videos of Central Greece

Prepare to be amazed by this DVOW nominated film of Athens, Greece, compliments of  contributor Damian.  Opening with some shots of the hills surrounding the capital city, the video cuts to its most famous landmark: the Parthenon temple within the hilltop citadel known as the Athens Acropolis.    Then it's on to the Olympic Stadium, the main venue for the 2004 Summer Games which were held here.  From there you'll see more footage of the Acropolis, followed by shots of the city's marina's, before closing with an epic shot of Mount Lycabettus.  

Get some great aerial views of Central Greece in this terrific reel by contributor Aerial_Greece.  The video opens with a shot of the wreck of the Mediterranean Sky, a combination-passenger liner ship scuttled in Eleusis Bay just north of Athens in 2003.  At the :50 mark, there's a great shot of Arachova, a mountain town in the Boeotia region near Mt. Delphi.  Following some great shots of the Saronic Gulf coastline, at the 1:50 mark you'll get an aerial view of the Temple of Poseidon on Cape Sounion.  

Check out this magnificent 60 second aerial tour of Athens, compliments of top AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Nathan Jermy.  The video opens with some epic shots of the Greek capital city's most well-known spots: the hilltop citadel known as the Parthenon, which was built at the height of Ancient Athens' glory in the 4th century BC.  Then it's on to Olympic Stadium, the main venue for the 2004 Summer Olympics.  From there you'll go to the Temple of Olympian Zeus, finishing the journey looking over Mount Lycabettus, the city's highest point.

This outstanding drone video by AirVuz contributor pasxos30 features two of the best-known ruins sites of the Golden Age of Athens, the period between the Second Persian War and the Peloponnesian War in the 5th century BC when the city-state of Athens was in its heyday.  The more well-known of the two is the Athens Acropolis, a citadel built upon a hill in the center of the city.  The second spot is the Temple of Poseidon, which is situated at the tip of Cape Sounion, at the southern end of the Attica Peninsula south of Athens.  

The Agrafas are a chain of mountains in Central Greece.  The range is an extension of the Pindus mountains, which run over Northern Greece and into the neighboring country of Albania.  The mountains are dotted with gorgeous lakes and valleys and many small towns whose red brick roofs present an amazing visual appearance.  In this video, contributor Icarus Aerial Filming took a drone on a Sunday trip through the mountains, providing us with a marvelous bird's eye view of an area in the heart of Greece.

Ride along with AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Aerial_Greece for this beautiful mini-tour of some of the areas outside of Athens, Greece.  The focus of the video is the Attica Peninsula coastline on the Saronic Gulf, which runs southeast from the Greek capital city.  One of the featured spots is Lake Vouliagmeni, a brackish lake located about halfway between Athens and Cape Sounion.  Also, at about 1:20, you'll see the Temple of Poseidon, an important relic from the Golden Age of Athens which is located on Cape Sounion.  

Check out this amazing drone video of the mountains north of Athens, Greece, compliments of contributor Paschalis. Mount Parnitha is the highest mountain in Attica, the peninsula on which the Greek capital city sits.  The mountains figure prominently in Greek history, and at one time was home to numerous fortresses protecting Athens from invasion from the north.  The highest peak is around 1.4k meters (around 4.6k ft.).  This drone video was filmed using the DJI Mavic Pro Zoom model.

In this video, top AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Badios filmed Katerina Soldatou doing her "Greece Has Soul" aerial dance over the Corinthian Canal, one of the most well-known sights in central Greece.  The canal was built in the late 1800's to connect the Saronic Gulf and the Gulf of Corinth, which sit on opposite sides of the Isthmus of Corinth connecting the Peloponnese Peninsula with the mainland of Greece.  While the canal is too narrow for shipping, it is big enough for small boats.

Of the many Greek islands in the Aegean Sea, probably the least well known are the Saronic Islands.  These sit in the Saronic Gulf, an inlet of the Aegean formed by the Attica Peninsula to the north and the Peloponnese Peninsula to the west.  In this drone video by Aerial_Greece, you'll get a bird's eye view of some of the top spots in the gulf, including the island of Aegina, a monastery atop one of the gulf's many tiny islets, and the wreck of the Mediterranean Sky, a ship which ran aground in the Eleusis Bay here in 1953.  

AirVuz contributor John Kokotinis brings us this outstanding drone video of one of the highest mountains in Greece.  It consists of several peaks, the tallest of which has a summit elevation of about 8.2k ft. above sea level (around 2.5k m).   It's located in Phocis, one of the administrative units of Central Greece.   Known in ancient times as the "Moonless Mountain", it's the fifth-highest mountain in the country and the tallest south of Mt. Olympus.  The nearest town to the mountain is Amfissa, part of the municipality of Delphi.  

Top contributor BeemFlights created this excellent drone video of the Greek island of Evia.  Sometimes called Euboea, it's the second-largest Greek island after Crete.  The long and rather narrow landform sits across the Epirus Strait from the mainland.  It's part of the regional unit of Euboea, which is part of the region of Central Greece.  The island is roughly 180 km long (around 110 mi.) and about 50 km across (around 30 mi.) at its widest.  The video was filmed with a DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone.

This excellent piece by AirVuz contributor SioU uses a combination of archival and drone footage to tell the story of the Rio-Antirrio Bridge, considered one of the modern wonders of Greece.  The cable-stayed structure spans the Gulf of Corinth, connecting the mainland of Central Greece with the city of Patras on the Peloponnese Peninsula.  With a total length of almost 2.9k meters (almost 9.5k ft.), it's one of the longest bridges of its type in the world.  It was opened just before the Athens-hosted 2004 Summer Olympics.  

Contributor and drone pilot georgelek1966 used a drone to give us this bird's eye view of an ancient temple on the Greek island of Aegina.  The temple of Aphaia was built in the fifth century BC on this island, which is one of the Saronic Islands.  The islands are located in the Saronic Gulf, an Aegean Sea inlet which lies between the Attica and Peloponnese Peninsulas. Aphaia was a Greek goddess, worshipped exclusively at this site, who was thought to be important to fertility as well as to the crop growing cycle.  

Check out this drone video of one of Greece's Marathon Dam, compliments of DRONEAS GR.  It's a gravity dam on the Charadros River just a few km/mi west of its namesake town and about a half hour drive northeast of Athens.  Opened in 1929, the project's primary purpose was to supply drinking water to Athens, which at the time was being inundated with refugees from Turkey.  The dam was seen to be a symbol both for the modernization of Greece as well as to commemorate the great Greek victory over Persia at the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC.  

Check out these magnificent drone views from the Attic Peninsula of Greece, compliments of AirVuz contributor zisimos_zizos.  He filmed the area around the tiny islet of "islet" of Agios Nikolaos in Anavyssos, on the southwestern side of the peninsula.  It's an idyllic-looking spot on the Saronic Gulf, the body of water which separates Attica from the Peloponnese Peninsula to its west.  It's on the southern end of the Athens Riviera, about a 45 minute drive souteast of the Greek capital city.  

Euboea is Greece's second largest island (after Crete) but is less well known than its cousin to the south.  It's a long, narrow piece of land which lies on the east side of the Euboean Gulf from the mainland of Central Greece.  It is believed that the island was once actually part of the mainland and became separated by an earthquake at some point.  In this drone video by contributor Chris Ikarus, you'll get a bird's eye view of a town called Eretria, which lies in the middle of the island's western coast.  

Former Drone Video of the Week Winner kostas Gur brings us this excellent drone video of the Greek island of Salamis.  Shot with a DJI Mavic Mini 2 as well as the DJI FPV drone, the video will give you a unique perspective of the island, which lies a bit to the west of Athens.  Salamis is the largest island in the Saronic Gulf, the body of water which separates the Greek mainland from the Peloponnese Peninsula and which is considered an inlet of the Aegean Sea.  The island covers an area of about 36 square mi. or around 93 square km.

AirVuz contributor Jimmy_K brings us this rather stunning drone video of a yacht passing under the Greece's Euripus Bridge.  Opened in 1993, the cable-stayed span connects the city of Chalkida (Chalcis) on the island of Euboea with the Greek mainland to its west.  The Euripus Bridge has a total length of just under 2.3k ft. (a bit under 700 m), with its longest span measuring 705 ft. (215 m).  Greece's first cable-stayed road bridge, it's the longer and newer of the two bridges which span the strait. 

Aigosthena was an ancient fortified port city on Greece's Gulf of Corinth.  Situated at the foot of Mt. Cithaeron, the city was part of the state of Megaris.  Located about 50 km (around 30 mi.) northwest of Athens, the well-preserved ruins consist of a citadel tower and portions of the wall which once surrounded it.  The site dates to the early 4th century BC, shortly after the conclusion of the Peloponnesian War.  Check out this amazing historical landmark from above in this excellent drone video by DRONEAS GR.  

AirVuz contributor and pilot John Kokotinis created this beautiful drone video of Greece's Mt. Parnassus.  Parnassus is a limestone mountain which is situated on the north side of the Gulf of Corinth, the body of water which separates mainland Greece from the Peloponnese Peninsula.  The mountain has a peak elevation of just over 8k ft. above sea level (around 2.45k m)  Considered sacred in ancient times due to its proximity to the sanctuary of Delphi, in modern times it's also a popular ski resort.  

Galaxidi is a small harbor town on the Gulf of Corinth, a body of water which separates the mainland of Central Greece from the Peloponnese Peninsula.  Part of the municipality of Delphi, it's become a popular weekend getaway from Athens which lies a 2-3 hour drive to its east.  The town was built on the ancient site of Haleion, and it was contested during the Crusades as well as the later struggles between Christian Europe and the Ottomans.  You can see this historic town from above in this drone video by zisimos zizos.

Moses B. created this beautiful drone video of a historic bridge in Greece. Gorgopotamos Bridge spans the river of the same name in Phthiotis, a region of Central Greece.  After Nazi Germany conquered Greece in the Spring of 1941, the bridge became crucial in the German struggle to keep its North African forces supplied.  In November, 1942, Greek resistance forces, aided by British special forces, blew up the bridge as part of Operation Harling, one of the war's great special ops successes.

Vardousia is an important mountain in Central Greece.  It sits across portions of the Phthiotis and Phocis regional units, at the southern end of the Pindus Mountains.  The peak of the mountain, which is named Korakas, has a summit elevation of about 2.5 meters above sea level (just under 8.2k ft.) and is the second-highest peak in Central Greece.  AirVuz contributor and pilot armankis used a drone to film himself atop the mountain, giving us an excellent bird's eye view of one of the most stunning alpine settings in Greece.  

With its warm, semi-protected waters and steady winds, the Attica Peninsula of Central Greece is one of the world's top spots for windsurfing.  In this drone video by paschalis, you'll get an aerial view of one of the world's top windsurfers: Zois Theocharis.  Shot with a DJI Mavic 2 Zoom, the video captures the 13x Greek National Windsurfing Champion plying the waters around Loutsa, a beach area on the Petalioi Gulf due east of Athens.   As you can imagine, it takes some skillful piloting to keep up with a target moving this quickly.  

In this drone video, Badios films Katerina Soldatou performing her aerial acrobatics under a well known bridge in Central Greece.  It's called the Tatarna Bridge, and it spans Kremasta Lake in the Aetolia-Acarnania region.  Built in the 1970's, the box-girder bridge is just under 200 meters (around 650 ft.) long.  Kremasta Lake is the largest artificial lake in Greece.  It was created as a reservoir for the Kremasta Dam, which was commissioned in the late 1960's and is Greece's largest hydro plant.  

Glyfada is a suburb of Athens, Greece.  The largest of the southern suburbs of the Greek capital city, Glyfada stretches from the Hymettus Mountain to the body of water known as the Saronic Gulf.  The site of a US Air Force base during the Cold War years, Glyfada is considered one of the most Americanized areas of Greece.  Nowadays, it's known for its very active nighclub scene.  Known in ancient times as Aixone, you can check it out from above in this aerial video by contributor and drone pilot zisimos zizos.

AirVuz contributor zisimos zizos brings us this excellent drone video of a rather mysterious site in Greece: a heart-shaped crater known as Chaos.  It's located near the town of Lavrio near the tip of the Attica Peninsula, a bit to the southeast of Athens.  The crater is roughly 170 ft. deep (around 55 m) and up to 400 ft. across (120 m).  While some legends claim that the crater was formed by a meteorite strike, it seems more likely that the formation was caused by the collapse of a cave roof.   

As the Covid-19 pandemic required social distancing measures around the globe to fight the spread of the deadly virus, daily life required massive adjustments.  Rituals like weddings took on forms which would have been incompehensible in the pre-coronavirus era.  Witness this incredible video from Central Greece by Skyeye_Aerials.  Shot in the town of Lichades, the video uses first person view (FPV) racing drone footage to capture the groom cruising the waters of the North Euobean Gulf to meet his bride.  You have to see it to believe it! 

Here's an awesome day-and-night dronelapse of the Greek town of Salamina, compliments of AirVuz contributor kostas Gur.  Salamina is located on the island of Salamis in the Saronic Gulf, a Mediterranean inlet which separates the Attic Peninsula from the Peloponnese region to its west.  The city lies along Salamis Bay, about ten mi. (around 16 km) due west of central Athens.  Beautifully edited, the video consists of several day-to-night "cycles" shot along the city's brightly-colored waterfront area.  

AirVuz contributor JK Films Photo brings us this excellent drone video from a mountainous region in the heart of Greece called Evritania.  One of the most sparsely populated areas of the country, Evritania is covered by the peaks of the Tymfristos and the Panaitoliko mountain massifs, both of which are part of the Pindus range that extends northwards into Albania.  The mountains here have elevations up to about 7.6k ft. above sea level or around 2.3k m.  The area is roughly a 3-4 hour drive northwest of Athens.  

After a two year hiatus, AirVuz contributor and pilot Zoe returns with this fantastic  video of the Greek island of Evia.  Also known as Euboea, it's the second-largest island in this Southeast European country after Crete.  The long, narrow island is oriented in the northwest-to-southeast direction, and runs roughly parallel to the Attic Peninsula (the landform which includes Athens).   Extremely well edited, the video features a mix of drone and ground camera footage of the sparsely populated northwestern part of the island.  

In this excellent drone video by AirVuz contributor JK Films Photo, you'll get an aerial tour of an iconic Greek village situated on the slopes of Mt. Parnassos.  The town is called Arachova, and it's situated on the southern slopes of Parnassos, a range which lies just north of the Gulf of Corinth in the central part of the country.  Lying just a few mi./km east of historic Delphi, the town sits at an altitude of about 3.2k ft. above sea level (just under 1k m); the highest peak of Parnassos is just over 8k ft. ASL (just under 2.5k m).  

AirVuz contributor and pilot used a DJI X7 camera mounted to an Inspire 2 drone to create this fascinating video of an abandoned cement factory in Greece.  It's located in Chalcis (Chalkida), the main city on the large island of Evia (Euboea) that runs parallel to (and to the east of) the Attic Peninsula.  The factory is adjacent to the Euripus Bridge (which you'll see in the background), the more modern of the two spans which connect the island to the mainland over the narrows of the Euripus Strait.  

In this video, contributor Badios aerially filmed Katerina Soldatou performing an aerial dance beneath a famous modern bridge in Greece.  The Rio–Antirrio Bridge connects the Peloponnese Peninsula to the Greek mainland, well to the west of the Corinth Canal crossings.  Built in 2004, the 2.9k meter ((9.5k) cable-stayed bridge is widely considered to be one of the great works of modern civil engineering.  As of 2018, the span is the world's third largest span of the suspended cable-stayed design.  

Check out this fantastic drone video of the Greek seaside town of Galaxidi, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot walkinginhellas.  The town is located in the municipality of Delphi on a natural harbor on the northern side of the Gulf of Corinth, in the region of Central Greece.   Built on the site of the ancient city of Haleion, Galaxidi is a popular weekend getaway from Athens, which lies a 2.5-3 hour drive to its east.  The video features footage of this quaint harbor town as well as some of its outlying islands.

Check out this excellent drone video of Greece's Lake Mornos, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot John Kokotinis.  Mornos is actually an artificial reservoir lake which was created by the damming of the river of the same name in the 1970's.  It's located in the municipality of Delphi in the Central Greece region.  The water source for the lake is the nearby Oiti Mountains.  The water stored in the lake is conveyed via aqueduct to Athens, which lies about 150 mi. (around 250 km) to its southeast.   

If you look at a map of Central Greece, the most prominent landform is the Attic Peninsula, which forms an upside-down arrow extending from Athens into the Aegean Sea.  At the tip of Attica lies a small promontory called Cape Sounion, which is the subject of this drone video by  contributor Pasxos30.  This area was deemed to be of significant religious interest in the Antiquity, leading to the Temple of Poseidon being constructed here in the 5th century, during the Golden Age of Athens.

Explore a canyon in the heart of Greece in this highly cinematic first person view (FPV) drone video by AirVuz contributor Too_close_to_the_sun.  The video was filmed over and around Rodokalos Canyon, which is located near the village of Ypati in the regional unit of Phthiotis northwest of Athens.  The canyon lies near Mt. Oeta, which is part of the Pindus range of mountains (sometimes called the Spine of Greece).  This video was picked by the AirVuz editorial staff for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in November of 2023.  

Check out these fantastic drone videos of a beautiful harbor near Athens, Greece, compliments of new contributor tasfot_m2pro.  The area goes by various names, including Mikrolimano, Fanari or the port of Koumoundourou.  It's located in the northeastern side of the Piraeaus Peninsula, a landform which juts into the Saronic Gulf just southwest of the Greek capital city.  The area is the heart of the Athens Riviera, a stretch of coastline south of Athens which is home to one of the world's largest recreational boat fleets.

AirVuz contributor and pilot Moses B. created this marvelous drone video of the Temple of Poseidon, one of the ancient ruins of Greece.  It's located at the tip of Cape Sounion, a promontory at the far end of the Attic Peninsula of Central Greece.  The temple was built in the mid-fifth century BC, replacing an earlier temple at the site which was destroyed during a Persian invasion of Greece which occurred earlier in the century.  Construction occurred during the time that Athens was ruled by Pericles.  

AirVuz contributor Droneas gr brings us this excellent drone video of the Greek island of Evia (Euboea), the country's second-largest after Crete.   The long, narrow Aegean Sea island runs on a roughly northwest to southeast axis for a length of 110 mi.
