The fortress of Aigosthenes Drone as DJI Mavic
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Aigosthena was an ancient fortified port city on Greece's Gulf of Corinth. Situated at the foot of Mt. Cithaeron, the city was part of the state of Megaris. Located about 50 km (around 30 mi.) northwest of Athens, the well-preserved ruins consist of a citadel tower and portions of the wall which once surrounded it. The site dates to the early 4th century BC, shortly after the conclusion of the Peloponnesian War. Check out this amazing historical landmark from above in this excellent drone video by DRONEAS GR.

The fortress of Aigosthenes dominates the homonymous eastern bay of the Corinthian Gulf. The site seems to have been used from the geometric to the post-Byzantine years. The fortress was built in the second half of the 4th century. e.g. and is one of the best preserved ancient fortresses in Greece. In the classical period Aigesthenes were a comedy of the Grandes. Later, in the 2nd century. BC, they joined the Boeotian community as an independent city. In Aigestena, we witness the worship of the diviner and healer Melaboda, whose sanctuary is estimated to be beneath the acropolis, in the space within the long walls. An indication of the continuation of the occupation in the early Christian times is the five-aisled basilica of the 5th century. A.D. On the ruins of the basilica, was built, in the 11th century, the small church of Panagia or Agia Anna with ancient building material. In the late Byzantine and post-Byzantine period, the site of the acropolis hosted a monastery, from which the ruins of the cells and the cathedral, the small church of St. George, are preserved. In 1981 the strong earthquake of the Alkionides in the Corinthian Gulf caused major damage and collapse throughout the fortress. Since 2011, the Ministry of Culture has begun restoration and restoration work on the fortress, co-financed by Greece and the European Union. The restoration work of the SE Acropolis tower, which had as its natural object the restoration of the monument in its ancient form, has been completed and the visitor is now given access to the interior of the tower and the ascent to its top floor, from where it has full supervision of the fortress and the wider area
