Bird's Eye Views of Slovenia

Take in these stunning drone views of Slovenia, compliments of former Drone Video of the Week Winner Jan Barančík - DronistaCZ.  The video opens with some great shots of the peaks of the Julian Alps, and at :22 you'll see the iconic church-topped island of Lake Bled as well as Bled Castle, which overlooks the lake.  From there, you'll check out some of the churches in the nearby hills.  At 1:40, you'll be treated to a spectacular view of Vintgar Gorge, which is situated in the Radovna Valley, near Bled.  

Former Drone Video of the Week Winner timroosjen brings us this magnificent drone video from Slovenia.  Filmed with a DJI Mavic 3, the video opens with a shot of Lake Bled and its famous island church, which dates to the 17th century.  At the :34 mark, you'll see the pristine white Church of St. Primoz in the village of Jamnik peaking through the clouds, followed by some stunning shots of the peaks of the Julian Alps.  At the :55 mark, you'll see the capital city of Ljubljana and its hilltop castle, which dates to the 11th century.

Top AirVuz contributor timroosjen brings us this stunning drone video from the Central European country of Slovenia.  The video includes footage from the following locations, all of which are in the northwestern part of the country: Lake Bled, a beautiful alpine lake in the Julian Alps; the Church of St. Tomaz, in the town of Jamnik; the Church of St. Primož and Felicijan, also in Jamnik; the town of Kranjska Gora, near Triglav National Park; the mountain plateau of Velika Planina; Vintgar Gorge; Savica Waterfall; and the Soča River.

AirVuz contributor zurandenis brings us this heartbreaking drone video of the flooding which devastated parts of Slovenia in August of 2023.  Considered the worst natural disaster to hit Slovenia since it became independent following the breakup of Yugoslavia in the early 1990's, the floods caused widespread damage throughout the country.  At least six people were killed and property damage was estimated at upwards of half a billion US dollars, leading to calls for assistance from the European Union and the NATO alliance.  

Take in the beauty of northwestern Slovania in this fantastic video by new contributor BvdB Productions.  The video opens with a shot of what's likely the country's most iconic sight: the tiny Lake Bled, with its church-topped lone island.  From there, you'll head west into the high Julian Alps, a subrange of the Southern Limestone Alps which runs across northwestern Slovenia.  Here you'll take in some of Europe's most beautiful mountain scenery, including the famous Vršič Pass through the mountains north into Austria.  

When Yugoslavia followed the footsteps of the USSR and dissolved in the early 1990's, the new nation of Slovenia inherited some of the most spectacular scenery from the former federation.  In this video, AirVuz Drone Video Award nominee hamzamuj uses his DJI Mavic Pro drone to give us a bird's eye tour of this beautiful country, which lies at the crossroads of Central and Southeastern Europe.  It includes footage of Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj, Savica Waterfall, Boka Waterfall and other scenic spots. 

Explore the beauty of Slovenia in the Autumn in this fantastic drone video by former DVOW Winner Dronographer.  The video opens with shots near the Austrian border, before heading to the famous Herzerlstraße, a heart-shaped street in one of the country's vineyards.  Then it's on to the Sveti Tomaž, an iconic church in the mountainous Upper Carniola region.  From there you'll head to the town of Jamnik, a bit  north of Sveti Tomaž.  The last stop is the gorgeous Lake Bled, a little further north, one of Slovenia's most recognized spots.  

The beauty of the Slovenia is on full display in this marvelous drone video by contributor and pilot 2B Optik.  The video features footage from the following locations in this former Yugoslav Federation member: Zelenci Nature Preserve and the nearby village of Podkoren in the northwestern corner of the country; the Fusine Lakes in the northeastern corner of the country; Sveti Svobota Church; the village of Trnovo ob Soči in the (western) Littoral region; Sveti Volbanka church; and the Soca River Valley.

New contributor AlgernonX brings us this excellent drone video from the small country of Slovenia, which was once part of Yugoslavia.  Filmed with a DJI Mavic Mini 2, the video opens with a shot of a small hilltop church before cutting to a view of the Julian Alps, which cover much of the northern part of the country.  At the :32 mark, there's a nice shot of the mountain town of Kamnik.   Other featured locations include the Church of St. Primož (just outside of Kamnik) at :45, the Assumption Church on Lake Bled (:55), and more.  

Lake Bled is one of the most iconic sights in Slovenia, a small Central European country which was once part of Yugoslavia.  The small lake is situated in the northwestern corner of the country, in the foothills of the Julian Alps.  The two most distinctive features of the lake are its small church-topped island and the medieval Bled Castle, which is perched atop a cliff overlooking the lake.  This stunningly beautiful alpine scene is expertly captured by drone in this fantastic video by new AirVuz contributor mattia gentile.  

The Julian Alps is a mountain range which extends from northern Italy westwards into Slovenia.  A sub-range of the larger Alps system, their  highest peak is Mt. Triglav, which stands 2.9k meters (9.4k ft) and lies in Slovenia's Triglav National Park.  In this video, contributor Jus Medic and a friend took a drone and hiked to the top of Dolkova Spica, a slightly smaller mountain in Slovenia, capturing Mt. Triglav in the distance.   The epic aerial views of the Slovenian mountains are spectacular.  

Contributor Enviesdailleurs.eu used a drone to create memories of an amazing trip across Europe.  This episode covers the Slovenia portion of the trip.  Using a DJI Phantom 4 drone, he takes us around Soca Valley, Jasna Lake, Vrsic Pass, Piran, and the famous Bled Lake.  If the Soca Valley footage at the beginning of the video looks familiar, you may have seen it in the movies: the valley  was utilized as a primary shooting location for the 2007 blockbuster Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

Contributor mt_productions used a DJI Mavic Air drone to create this beautiful mini-tour of northwestern Slovenia.  This is generally considered the most beautiful part of the country, the northernmost of the former confederates of Yugoslavia.  This is the part of the country covered by the Julian Alps, a subrange of the Southern Limestone Alps which also extends into Italy and Austria.  Locations featured include Lake Bled, Triglav National Park, Kranjska Gora, Lake Jasna, and Lake Bohinj.

Begunje is a small town in northern Slovenia, not far from the country's long northern border with Austria.  The town, which dates to the 11th century, is home to an extremely well preserved town center and a magnificent castle which originally dates to the 15th century and which was rebuilt in the 17th century.  In this video, Slovenian content creator and pilot Kolman Aerial flies his drone over this breathtaking sight, which resembles what one might see in the Austrian or Swiss Alps of Central Europe.  

Without doubt, the most well-recognized spot in the Central European nation of Slovenia is the area around Lake Bled, in the northwestern corner of the country.  Situated in the Julian Alps, the lake is known for its tiny island as well as the magnificent Bled Castle which overlooks it.  In this drone video by enricocif, you'll be treated to some amazing 4k aerial footage of this natural and cultural treasure as well as nearby Lake Behind, Perocnik falls, Sava waterfall, and Triglav national park.

Pericnik is a waterfall in northern Slovenia, near the country's northern border with Austria.  It is actually a system of two waterfalls, with the lower (larger) falls having a drop of 52 meters (171 ft.).  Situated in Triglav national park, it's is one of the best known sights in this mountainous land which was once part of Yugoslavia.  In this aerial video, contributor Kolman Aerial flies his drone over the great falls during the peak autumn season, creating a stunning aerial perspective! 

Lake Bled is in the Julian Alps of Slovenia, the northernmost of the former Yugoslav Federation members. It's about an hour's drive from the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana. The church featured in this 4K aerial piece by Alberto Ardit is Cerkev Marijinega Vnebovzetja or the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Mary. It is reached only by boat and has been there since the 9th century (although its current form has only been around since the late 17th century). It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Slovenia. 

Check out this stunning drone video of  a well-known waterfall in Slovenia, compliments of contributor enricocif.  It's called the Boka waterfall, and it's located in the western part of this Central European country.  The two-stage waterfall is fed by an underwater spring which drains the nearby mountains.  It's first stage is 106 meters (just under 350 ft.), followed by a second drop of 33 meters (just under 110 ft.).  The waterfall is near a road which runs between the towns of Bovec and Kobarid.  

Contributor and drone pilot MIAPVIDEOS created this beautiful aerial video of some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Slovenia.  While much of the country is covered in mountains, its most visually impressive areas are in its northwestern corner near the borders with Italy (to the west) and Austria (to the north).  This region is covered by the Julian Alps, a sub-range of the Southern Limestone Alps.  These spectacular peaks resemble the Dolomite Mountains in Italy, which are also part of the Southern Limestones.  

Check out this rather stunning drone video of a well-known castle town in the mountains of Slovenia, compliments of contributor Kolman Aerial.  It's called Kamen Castle, and it's at the entrance to the Draga Valley near the country's northern border with Austria.  Distinguished by its square Romanesque tower, the castle dates to the 12th century.  The castle was expanded in the 16th century with the addition of a residence; its owners abandoned it in the 18th century.  The landmark is open to the public. 

Contributor and pilot Kolman Aerial created this marvelous drone video of a spot in the mountains of Slovenia.  Begunjščica is a ridge-type mountain in a range called the Karawanks, which run for about 120 km (75 mi.) along the country's northern border with Austria.  Its highest peak is a bit under 2.1k meters (a little under 6.8k ft.). The range is part of the Southern Limestone Alps group, which runs roughly east-west across northern Italy, southern Austria, and northern Slovenia.  

Check out these stunning aerial views from the mountains of Slovenia, compliments of contributor Toon Van Ishoven.  The video was shot from a number of locations in the vicinity of Triglav National Park, the country's only national park, which is located in the Julian Alps near the northwestern corner of the country.  One of the country's great natural treasures, the park is home to Mt. Triglav, Slovenia's highest peak.  The video also includes footage of some of the surrounding valleys and the quaint alpine town of Most na Soči.

Bohinj valley is a basin in the Upper Carniolan region of Slovenia, lying in the northwestern part of the former Yugoslav confederation nation.  The geographically isolated valley (with an ethnically distinctive population) is crossed by the Sava Bohinjka river and is also the site of Lake Bohinj, a very well-known glacial lake.  Contributor Kohlman Aerial filmed this stunning site to gain a bird's eye perspective of the lake and the Julian Alps peaks of Italy and Austria which lie just beyond it.

This video shows amazing aerial footage of the Kog village and surrounding area in northeastern Slovenia, situated near the country's border with Croatia.  With moderate temperatures and plentiful nearby clean water sources, Kog is known as winery district, with extensive vineyards spread along two ridges.  Contributor and pilot Zurandenis made this unforgettable drone video of the Roka Winery, which is situated in the middle of this spectacular region that was once part of the now-dissolved country of Yugoslavia.  

Even though the Age of Steam has passed, there remains a profound fascination with the idea that giant trains could be propelled with steam generated by burning coal.  Near Lake Bled, Slovenia, an old bridge carries steam trains across the Vintgar Gorge.  It's just a few km/mi from Lake Bled, probably the most well known spot in this beautiful Central European country.  Contributor and pilot Kohlman Aerials made this short but impressive drone video of this scene, which appears to be something out of the 19th century.  

One of the great natural treasures of Slovenia is the Triglav National Park.  The only national park in this Central European country, it's located in the Julian Alps in the northwestern part of Slovenia, near the Italian and Austrian borders.  In this drone video by top contributor Jus Medic, you'll get an aerial perspective of two of the taller mountains in the park: Mt. Jalovec with a peak altitude of around 2.65k meters (around 8.7k ft.) and Slemenova Spica with a peak elevation of around 1.9k meters or about 6.2k ft. 

In this drone video, AirVuz contributor and drone pilot takes us over a trio of spots in the northern part of Slovenia, close to its border with Austria.  The first stop is Logarska Dolina, a settlement in the Logar Valley.  Part of the historical region of Styria (which is mostly in Austria), it's now part of the Savinja region.  The next stop is Robanov Kot, a settlement immediately to its east.  The last spot is a bit to the west: the town of Jezersko, which is part of the neighboring Upper Carniola region.

Enjoy these magnificent aerial views of Slovenia, compliments of AirVuz contributor and drone pilot In Giro con Milo.  At the 1:05 mark, you'll see Ptuj, which lies on the Drava River in the northeastern part of the country and is Slovenia's oldest town.  At 1:26, you'll see the ruins of Celje Castle, which was once the strongest fortification in Slovenia, followed by the Renaissance style Predjama Castle, which is built in the mouth of a cave in the Inner Carniola region near the center of the country.  

AirVuz contributor enricocif brings us this excellent drone video from the medieval town of Radovljica, Slovenia.  Radovljica is located near the eastern entrance to the  Julian Alps (part of the Southern Limestone Alps), which extend westward over Slovenia's border with Italy.  The town, which is part of the historical region of Upper Carniola in the western part of the country, dates to the 13th century.  It's just a few mi./km from Lake Bled, one of the most well-recognized spots in Slovenia.  

The Soča is a river which originates in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia and flows southwards into  northeastern Italy, discharging into the Adriatic Sea.  The river's valley in Slovenia features some of the country's most beautiful scenery.  In this drone vdeo by enricocif, you'll see some of the Soča Valley highlights, namely the  Boka, Vjrie, and Kozjak waterfalls; Bovec; Kobarid; and Most na Soci.  The river, which is known as the Isonzo in Italian, was the scene of some of the bitterest fighting in World War I.  

Begunjscica is a mountain in the Karawank Mountain range, an extension of the Alps mountains which straddles the border of Austria and Slovenia to the south.  Contributor and pilot Kohlman Aerial used a drone to capture the stunning beauty of this alpine redoubt in winter.  The mountain's highest peak, aptly named Big Peak, is a bit over 2k meters above sea level (slightly over 6.5k ft.).  For climbers in decent physical shape, it's a fairly easy climb that can be tackled in a partial day and without technical climbing equipment.

Jamnik is a town in the mountains of northwestern Slovenia.  It's a forested area which lies on a plateau that marks the eastern extent of the Julian Alps, the great range which covers northwestern Slovenia, the far northeastern corner of Italy, and parts of Austria.  Jamnik is part of the Upper Carniola Region, one of the seven which make up this country which had been part of the Yugoslav Federation.  In this video, you will get a bird's eye view of this stunning alpine setting, compliments of contributor and pilot Kolman Aerial. 

New AirVuz contributor stefanotrojani.com brings us this fantastic drone video from the port town of Piran, Slovenia.  Piran lies on the Istrian Peninsula, a landform which juts southward into the Adriatic Sea.  Settled since Roman times, Piran became an important city within the Venetian Empire, which ruled over the Adriatic region for much of the Medieval and Early Modern periods.  It was an Austrian territory for much of the 19th century before being ceded to Italy and then to Yugoslavia, of which Slovenia was part until the 1990's.   

Contributor androzma created this stunning 4k drone video of a winegrowing region of northern Slovenia.  It's called Brdo Srne, and it's located a short distance to the southeast of Lake Bled.  It's part of the Goriska Brda winegrowing region, which is sometimes referred to as the Tuscany of Slovenia.  The region is in the lower and flatter areas of the country south of the Julian Alps.  Here, the cool, dry air which doesn't generally freeze and plentiful water supplies make for ideal winegrowing conditions.  

Take a mini tour of the Upper Carniola region of Slovenia in this drone video by contributor and drone pilot Kolman Aerial.  The locations featured in the video include the following spots from the region, which lies in the mountainous northwestern part of the country: (1) iconic Lake Bled, an alpine lake in the Julian Alps overlooked by Bled Castle; and (2) Bohinj and Begunje na Gorenjskem, two prominent towns in the Upper Carniola Region.  You'll even get some views of the distinctive Lipizzaner horses! 

Here's an aerial (summertime) view of a well-known ski resort in Slovenia, compliments of androzma.  It's called Krvavec, and it's located in the municipality of Cerklje na Gorenjskem in the north-central part of the country.  Krvavec is the second-largest ski resort in the country.  The resort features 30 ski slopes.  It's only about ten km (around 6 mi.) from Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport, giving it the distinction of being the closest ski resort to an international airport anywhere in Europe! 

For a first upload to AirVuz, mzynfoce brings us this stunning drone video of a hot-air balloon in the Central European country of Slovenia.  The video was filmed near Celje, Slovenia's third-largest city.  The area is part of the region of Styria (not to be confused with the Austrian region of the same name), which covers an east-central portion of the country.  The landscape here is one which transitions from the mountainous terrain that covers most of northern Slovenia to the Pannonian Plain, also known as the Hungarian Plain.   

Check out this fantastic drone video of a road trip through Slovenia, the northwesternmost of the former Yugoslav Federation countries.  The video features footage of some of the country's most well-known sites, such as the iconic Lake Bled and the hilltop Ljubljana Castle in the capital city.  Perhaps the most amazing footage is from the seaside town of Piran, which sits at the tip of a very narrow peninsula on the Adriatic Sea, just north of the border with Croatia and the peninsula of Istria. 

The Hobby Traveler used a DJI Mavic Air drone to create this video from the Southeast European country of Slovenia.  The first part of the video features footage from two of the country's best-known spots:  the iconic Lake Bled and nearby Lake Bohinj, which lie in the northwestern part of the country.  Then it's on to the Adriatic Sea coastline for shots of Koper, the largest of the country's Adriatic Sea ports, Portoroz, and Piran, which sits at the tip of a narrow peninsula.  

The Julian Alps, or the Slovenian Alps, are what dreams are made of. Mountain peaks, picture-perfect lakes, stunning valleys, and blue-green rivers fill the region in northwestern Slovenia and dazzle all who visit. First-person-view (FPV) pilot KoryFPV takes us to the Julian Alps, specifically the Mangartska jama National Park in Strmec na Predelu. His mountain surfing skills are shown clearly throughout this piece, hitting his line and making the viewer feel like they are truly flying. 

Top contributor johannesbloechl created this stunning drone video from a two day tour through three European countries in early 2020: Austria, Slovenia, and Croatia.  The first stop is a beautiful white church in a small town in an area where the plains transition to the hills, likely the foothills of the Julian Alps. Then it's on to Slovenia's iconic Lake Bled, whose lone island is topped by a magnificent church.  Another recognizable spot is the Slovenian port town of Koper, which lies on a narrow peninsula on the Adriatic Sea.

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor JOYofVISION brings us this fantastic drone video from the Adriatic Sea port town of Piran, Slovenia.  Piran is situated on the northern side of the Istrian Peninsula, most of which is part of Croatia.  Piran's most prominent architecture dates to the medieval period, when Piran was an important outpost of the Venetian Empire.  Piran was then Austrian territory for much of the 19th century before being ceded to Italy and then to Yugoslavia, of which Slovenia was part until the 1990's.
