While the Central Asian nation of Afghanistan is perhaps most associated with war and conflict, there is more to this country than what is always on news headlines. The country is rich and full of beautiful landscape with snowcapped mountains (including some of the world's highest peaks), lush green valleys, magnificent deserts, and historical monuments from ancient empires. This aerial film by contributor and drone pilot Khyber Khan captures and showcases some of the breathtaking beauty of the land.

Top AirVuz contributor and DVA Finalist Khyber Khan put together this magnificent aerial tour of the Hindu Kush Mountains of Afghanistan.  Considered a western extension of the Himalayan Mountain chain, the Hindu Kush run for about 800 km (just under 500 mi.) through eastern Afghanistan and into neighboring Tajikstand and China.  Known in the Antiquity as the Caucasus Indicus or Paropamisadae range, their highest peaks reach an altitude of 7.7k meters above sea level (25.3k ft.).  This video was a DVOW Finalist in January, 2020.

AirVuz contributor mustafa12 brings us this stunning (and rather haunting) drone video from Afghanistan as much of this Central Asian country (and much of the world) was under various levels of community quarantine to fight the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.  The video features footage from the national capital of Kabul as well as from around the countryside.  While the country appeared to be faring much better than its very hard-hit neighbor Iran, Afghanistan nevertheless had seen nearly 3,000 confirmed infections by early May, 2020.  

Check out these marvelous drone views of northern Afghanistan, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot mustafa12.    The northern part of this giant Central Asian country is a mixture of plains and some of the world's highest mountains, with much in between.  The video includes footage from the Hindu Kush Mountains, the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif (the country's fourth-largest by population), the town of Balkh just northwest of Mazar-i-Sharif, the national capital of Kabul, and more.  

Kabul, Afghanistan is one of the least-known major cities of Asia.  It's the capital and largest city in this Central Asian Republic, which has been wracked by war (civil and otherwise) for much of the past several decades.  In this drone video, you will get a bird's eye view of the Afghan capital city, which is the center of a metropolitan area of over 5 million.  With a rich history dating to the Antiquity, the city is located in a valley of the Hindu Kush Mountains, home to some of the highest peaks in the world.  

For a first upload to AirVuz, brand-new contributor Kolam7Film brings us this fantastic drone video tour of the Central Asian republic of Afghanistan.  Covering an area of 652k square km (around 250k square mi.), this landlocked country is home to ancient cities as well as some of the world's most spectacular scenery.  The video features footage from the capital city of Kabul, the southern city of Kandahar, the western city of Harat, the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif, as well as some of the country's mountainous landscapes.

Check out these magnficent drone views of Afghanistan, compliments of contributor and pilot Kolam7Film.  The video features footage from across the country's Central Highlands, a mountainous region which covers roughly two-thirds of the country's considerable land area.  The Central Highlands are dominated by the Hindu Kush Mountains, a chain which runs roughly southwest-to-northeast through the country and into neighboring Pakistan and Tajikstan.  The Hindu Kush are part of the same system that includes the Pamir and Himalayan Mountains.

New AirVuz contributor Jamil Yosufi brings us this stunning drone video of the remote Afghan province of Badakhshan.  The nortnermost and easternmost of the country's 34 provinces, Badakhshan has a long borders with the neighboring Central Asian republic of Tajikstan to the north and east and with Pakistan to the south, as well as a short border with China.   Badakhshan is also the name for a historical region which also includes a large part of eastern Tajikstan a small portion of China's massive province of Xinjiang.  

Explore the ancient city of Jalalabad, Afghanistan in this excellent drone video by AirVuz contributor and pilot Jamil Yosufi.  Capital of the Nangarhar Province in the eastern part of the country, on the Kabul River about 80 mi. (130 km) downstream from the national capital, Jalalabad is Afghanistan's fifth-largest city as of 2023.  Once known as Adinapur, the city was largely Buddhist before becoming under Muslim control around the year 1000 AD; it later served as an important northwestern outpost of the Mughal Empire.  

Check out these magnificent aerial views of Afghanistan's Hindu Kush Mountains, compliments of contributor and drone pilot mustafa12.  Essentially the western end of the great Himlayan Mountains system, the Hindu Kush run for about 800 km (around 500 mi.) across Afghanistan and into neighboring Tajikstan and (northern) Pakistan.  Their highest peak, which is actually in Pakistan, is roughly 7.7k meters above sea level or around 25.3k ft.  The system was created when the Indian subcontinent collided with Asia roughly 55 million years ago.

Bagram Airfield served as the USA's largest military base in Afganistan prior to American withdrawal from the country in 2021.  It's located in the province of Parwan in the eastern part of the country, about an hour's drive north of the capital city of Kabul.  In this excellent drone video by AirVuz contributor Jamil Yosufi, you'll get an aerial tour of the base and its surroundings, which also played a key role in the Soviet-Afghan War of the 1980's.  The base is now under the full control of the Afghan Ministry of Defense.  

New AirVuz contributor Jamil Yosufi brings us this excellent "dronie" video from Afghanistan's Lake Qargha.  Located just west of Kabul, in the eastern part of the country, Qargha is a reservoir lake formed by a dam of the Paghman River which was built in the 1930's.  The reservoir covers an area of just under 20 square mi. (around 50 square km) and was developed in the 1950's primarily to provide aquatic recreation to the local population.  It also feeds an important rainbow trout hatchery nearby.   

Explore snow-covered Kabul, Afghanistan in this excellent drone video by AirVuz contributor Jamil Yosufi.   The video was filmed in the area around the Kārte Seh neighborhood in the southwestern part of the city.  Despite being at roughly the same latitude of the southern Mediterranean Sea, Kabul's climate is cold due largely to the fact that it sits in a valley of the Hindu Kush mountains at an altitude of about 5.9k ft. above sea level (around 1.8k m); its average January and February temperatures are below freezing.
