Explore the ancient city of Jalalabad, Afghanistan in this excellent drone video by AirVuz contributor and pilot Jamil Yosufi.  Capital of the Nangarhar Province in the eastern part of the country, on the Kabul River about 80 mi. (130 km) downstream from the national capital, Jalalabad is Afghanistan's fifth-largest city as of 2023.  Once known as Adinapur, the city was largely Buddhist before becoming under Muslim control around the year 1000 AD; it later served as an important northwestern outpost of the Mughal Empire.

Known at the time by names such as Nagarhara and Adinapur,It is said that the original name of Jalalabad was Adinapur. Jalalabad was named in honour of Mughal ruler Jalal-uddin in the last decade of the sixteenth century, the grandson of Babur. The modern city gained prominence during the reign of Babur, founder of the Mughal Empire. Babur had chosen the site for this city which was built by his grandson Jalal-uddin Mohammad Akbar in 1560.
