Madeira - Fanal - epic forest

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE : AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) drone pilot seb-depp brings us this excellent FPV video from the Portuguese island of Madeira. The first part of the video was filmed in the Fanal Forest, in the highlands of the northwestern part of the islands. Then, it's off to the sea stacks of Ribeira da Janela, on the island's northwestern coastline, and then a bit east to the Véu da Noiva Waterfall at the 2:50 mark; other featured locations include the Ponta da Ladeira at Madeira's northwestern corner and the Porto Moniz Sea Pools.

The forest of Fanal is famous for its knobly trees and - normally - its fog. As we had "perfect weather" our whole week there was no sign of clouds, fog or rain. Next it's off to Ribeira da Janela with its Sea Stacks, on to the Miradouro (viewpoint) Vweu da Noiva (waterfall, sea stack with a gap) and the Miradouro Ponta da Ladeira (white "battlements") and to the Porto Moniz Sea Pools. After that relaxing place we hike down the Achadas da Cruz Vereda do Calhau (met only one couple going up) and take the rather frightening cable car back up. The Cascada da Garganta Funda (140 m waterfall) is almost dried up. We finish at Ponta do Pargo Lighthouse without waiting for the sunset. music by scottholmesmusic.com
