Meteora – The Place Where Faith Defied Gravity

Built atop the unique rock pillars present in the region, the six Greek Orthodox monasteries date to the 14th century, when 24 of these structures were built on the initiative of the Emperor of Serbs and Greeks Simeon Uroš. Four of the six remain active monasteries. They are considered amongst the most holy Eastern Orthodox monasteries remaining in existence.
