Macizo Central

The Central Orensano massif (Macizo Central Ourensán, in Galician) is a mountainous natural area in Galicia (Spain), which is part of the Galaico massif, formed by the Queija (Queixa in Galician), San Mamés, Fial de las Corzas and Invernadero mountains. It covers an area of ​​approximately 30 x 40 km and the altitude range varies from 300 m to 1780 m at Cabeza de Manzaneda, its highest peak.

It extends through the Orense municipalities of El Bollo, Chandreja de Queija, Castro Caldelas, Laza, Manzaneda, Puebla de Trives, Viana del Bollo, Villarino de Conso, Laroco, Villar de Barrio, Baños de Molgas, Maceda and Montederramo.

It is a protected area with the classification of Site of Community Importance (SCI) as part of the Natura 2000 Network and is in the process of being classified as a natural park.

Within the massif we can find areas protected under other protection figures such as the Invernadero natural park, the Soto de Rozabales (natural monument) which houses a magnificent example of a chestnut forest, or the Návea River Valley which is a protected landscape.

The area is home to, on the northern slope of its highest peak, Cabeza de Manzaneda, the only ski resort in Galicia (Manzaneda (ski resort)).
