Japantown 日本町 🏯 San Francisco Quarantine
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
In the Spring of 2020, with many cities under extreme social distancing measures to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, first person view (FPV) pilots were able to capture eerie scenes of seemingly empty neighborhoods that would ordinarily be packed with people. An example is the Japantown neighborhood of San Francisco, California. Its outdoor spaces were almost completely devoid of people when top AirVuz contributor InspireFPV created this amazing and highly cinematic FPV view of one of the world's largest Japanese enclaves.

This is Japantown, or Nihonmachi/日本町. Following the 1906 earthquake, many Japanese San Franciscans settled in what is now one of the largest and oldest ethnic enclaves in the United States. The Japan Center was opened in 1968, featuring 3 Japanese-oriented shopping centers, and the 100-foot-tall San Francisco Peace Pagoda. It was designed by Japanese architect Yoshiro Taniguchi and presented to San Francisco by it's sister city, Osaka, Japan, in the name of world peace. . . . .
