In the extreme northwest of Portugal, between Alto Minho and Trás-os-Montes, the Serra da Peneda, together with the Serra da Gerês, constitute the only Portuguese protected area declared a National Park. It is an area where human activity is harmoniously integrated into Nature, preserving very old values and traditions present in the community villages of Pitões das Júnias and Tourém.

A lush vegetation with different shades of green covers the mountains, highlighting a holly forest, unique at a national level, and endemic species such as the Gerês lily, which brightens the fields with its blue-violet tones. The very mountainous terrain is crossed by rivers and banks that run quickly and rush in waterfalls, finding placidity in the lagoons of reservoirs such as Caniçada, Vilarinho das Furnas or Portela do Homem. The landscapes are dazzling.
