Say goodbye to San Francisco's iconic Coca-Cola sign The Coca-Cola billboard, a beacon for travelers in San Francisco since 1937, will soon disappear from the South of Market cityscape. The Coca-Cola sign first switched on its lights sometime around 1937, one year after the completion of the Bay Bridge. With its two-way display, cars coming into and leaving the city were welcomed with its warm glow. Coca-Cola will pay $100,000 to remove the sign, which rises 112 feet above street level.
