Braving the elements in the Faroe Islands
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Contributor rlardon brings us this fantastic drone video from the Faroe Islands, the Danish North Atlantic archipelago. The video opens with shots of the quaint village of Kirkjubøur at the southern tip of Streymoy, the largest of the islands. At the 1:04 mark, you'll see the waterfall of Múlafossur Waterfall followed by the sea stacks of Drangarnir on the island of Vágar. Other highlights include the village of Tjørnuvík on Streymoy (1:40), the village of Gjógv on Esteroy (1:51), the Fossa Waterfall on Stremoy (2:10), and more.

Known for wonderful vistas and unpredictable weather, the Faroe Islands lived up to their reputation. While we were treated to clear skies when helicoptering into Sandoy, visiting Kirjubour's cathedral and the Mulafossur waterfall in Gasadalur, hiking to the sea stacks at Drangarnir and driving on the high roads above Nordradalur, the mood turned as we got stuck on Suduroy because of maintenance work on the ferry (which was even in the Faroese news). After spending the night in our rental car on a near deserted island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, we made it back to Torshavn, but the weather would keep battering us from that day on. Nonetheless, we went on to ride Faroese horses on Lambafelli and hiked up to Traelanipa to see lake Sorvagsvatn appear above the sea in hurricane winds. After that, we road tripped along Saksun and Pollurin bay, Tjornuvik and the statues of Risin and Kellingin, the Fossa waterfall, Eidi and Gjogv with its natural harbor, before arriving in Klaksvik. From there, we explored Kallur lighthouse and Mikladalur on the isle of Kalsoy, wandered around the only forest on Kunoy and reached the end of the road in Vidareidi, topping off the trip with a cold Föroya Bjór in our hot tub along the waterside. Despite the strong winds, cold and rain, I risked my DJI Mavic Pro as much as I dared to bring you this aerial reel. I hope you enjoy the stunning cliffs, charming villages, moody landscapes, black beaches, green islands and epic fjords as much as I did!
