The 21st century has brought forth a new skyscraper building boom, by far the largest in history in terms of the number of supertall buildings, defined as a continuously inhabitable structures in excess of 300 meters (just under 1k ft.). While prior booms were most intense in the cities of North America, the recent explosion in construction has been strongest in the cities of Asia. The megacities of China like Shanghai, Ghuanzhou, and Hong Kong have sprouted hundreds of skyscrapers, to which can be added hundreds more from other cities such as Dubai and Kuala Lampur. Amongst the European cities, the boom has been most intense in Russia, with Moscow home to five of the continent's seven tallest skyscrapers in Europe and St. Petersburg now home to the tallest. Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, New York City and Chicago have built many new residential and mixed use towers, San Francisco and Los Angeles have recently seen longtime tallest buildings dethroned, and Mexico City has built an ultramodern skyline of its own. Here is a collection of the best drone videos of these landmark structures. Aerial photo: “Tun Razak Exchange 106” by AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Jeremy1975.
