Prepare to be blown away by this fantastic first person view (FPV) drone mountain surfing video from northern Italy by contributor and FPV pilot Eliot.FPV.  The video was shot over the Dolomite Mountains, a subchain of the Southern Limestone Alps which run across several provinces near Italy's northern border, primarily in the Trentino-Alto-Adigio and Veneto Regions.  The video includes some "setup" shots from a gimbal-stabilized drone to enhance its cinematic effect.  This video made the FPV Pilots to Watch list in December, 2021.  

Prepare to be amazed by this stunning first person view (FPV) drone video of the famous Matterhorn mountain by top AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot Livyu.  The video was filmed with a GoPro Hero 11 Mini camera strapped to a 6" FPV quad equipped with a long-range FPV setup.  Situated in the heart of the Pennine Alps in Switzerland, near the Italian border, the Matterhorn has one of the world's most perfectly symmetrical peaks of any mountain.  The Matterhorn has a summit altitude of about 14.7k ft. above sea level, or around 4.5k m.

Check out this stunning first person view (FPV) drone mountain surfing piece from the Rocky Mountains by top AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot Flylifeco.  The video was fimed with a GoPro Hero 10, with the footage stabilized in post-production using the ReelSteady video stabilization package.  It was shot in Colorado, home to the tallest peaks of the great North American mountain chain.  Features some epic dives and ridge-skimming, this video was picked for the AirVuz FPV Pilots to Watch list in mid-February of 2022.  

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) drone pilot Tricky FPV brings us this epic video from the mountains of one of the world's northernmost spots: the Norway's Svalbard Islands.  The islands are situated in the Arctic Ocean, roughly halfway between the northernmost point of mainland Norway and the North Pole.  Heavily glaciered and covered in mountains which range up to about 5.6k ft. in altitude (about 5.6k m), Svalbard is still very much off the beaten path, with a permanent resident population of only about 2.5k.   

Talented content creator and first person view (FPV) drone pilot noahmalin earned himself a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in March of 2022 with this fantastic mountain surfing piece from the fabled Swiss Alps.  After spending four months in the Central American country of Costa Rica, he took his FPV game upwards, into some of the highest mountains of Europe and some of the most visually spectacular alpine scenery in the entire world.   Shot from atop some stunningly steep ridges, this is FPV mountain surfing at its best.  

Check out this fantastic first person view (FPV) drone mountain surfing video from the Ötztal Valley in the Austrian Alps, compliments of AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot fpvmaxxx.  The valley, which separates the Stubai Alps in the east from the Ötztal Alps in the west, runs a north-south course of about 40 mi. or around 70 km.  The video was filmed around Sölden, a famous ski area at the southern end of the valley.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in November of 2023.  

Check out this fantastic first person view (FPV) drone reel from the mountains of Siberian Russia, compliments of AirVuz contributor kalash.fpv.  The Altai Mountains are home to some of the most remote territory on earth.  The range, which also covers portions of neighboring China, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia, has few passes, making it highly inaccessible.  With peaks ranging up to about 14.8k ft. above sea level (around 4.5k m), the Altai's make for some epic FPV mountain surfing.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list.   

Soar over Russia's Caucasus Mountains in this fantastic first person view (FPV) drone video by AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot kalash.fpv.  The video was filmed near Sochi, host city for the 2014 Winter Olympics.  The video was shot with a GoPro Hero 10 action camera, which provides a high level of built-in stabilization.  As you'll see, this makes for some marvelously cinematic footage, particularly when filmed at sunset.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in late December of 2021.  

Prepare to be blown away by this spectacular first person view (FPV) drone video from Argentina's mighty El Aconcagua; with an elevation of 7k meters above sea level (23.8k ft.), the great Andes peak is the tallest mountains outside of Asia.  Contributor and pilot NDH Cinema shot the footage working on a documentary program.  Other than the opening and closing shots (which were filmed with a DJI Mavic Pro 2), the footage was captured with a GoPro Hero 8 mounted to an FPV quad.  This video made the FPV Pilots to Watch list in August, 2020.

Check out this stunning compilation of first person view (FPV) footage from Norway, compliments of AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot fure_fpv.  Shot with a long-range setup, the video features some absolutely incredible footage surfing the mountain ridges of this Scandinavian country.  Extremely cinematic, he pushes his flying skills to the limits navigating the spectacular natural scenery that abounds here, at times flying very far from "home".  This video was picked for the AirVuz FPV Pilots to Watch list in September, 2020.  

When you have the jawdropping Pyrénées practically in your backyard and a nimble quadcopter for cruising around them all, you get to capture incredible FPV drone footage like this, uploaded by the FPV pilot vasiliz.  In this long range mountain surfing masterpiece, he peacefully glides along the famed ridges, coasts over the tree tops, and dives elegantly over the rugged peaks.  We felt at peace after soaking up the juicy flow, and for that, we felt it was only right to place Vasiliz on our February 2020 FPV Pilots to watch list.  Bravo Vasiliz!

Prepare to be blown away by this fantastic first person view (FPV) drone mountain surfing video from the French Alps by top AirVuz contributor haussmannvisuals.   Filmed in the area around the town of Chamonix, the video will take you soaring along the spectacular mountain ridges and giant (but shrinking) glaciers which cover much of the landscape.  It's testament to the cinematic power of FPV drones, which are capable of providing never-before seen perspectives of some of the world's most pristine alpine landscapes.

AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot halitic earned a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in late September of 2021 with this fantastic mountain surfing piece from the Swiss Alps.  The video was filmed around the Jungfraujoch, a mountain saddle which connects two prominent peaks in the Bernese Alps on the border between the cantons of Bern and Valais.  The video includes some epic footage of the "Top of Europe" observation deck, which is situated at an altitude of 11.3k ft. above sea level or a little under 3.4k m.  

In this stunning video, drone pilot PikaFPV takes us on a long range flight in which he skirts around the hot spots and edges of a very active Mount Etna, on the east coast of Sicily, Italy.  This active volcano, along with its rolling steam and surrounding hills, was enticing enough to call to this pilot in a way that felt entirely ethereal.  His sweeping runs and graceful surfing along the ridges prove he can certainly make the most of the landscape around him.  That's why he was added to our FPV Pilots to Watch List on April 2020.

The once-distinct worlds of gimbal-stabilized aerial videography and first person view (FPV) video content are slowly converging.  In one manifestation of this phenomenon, content creators who once relied exclusively on aerial platforms like the DJI Phantom and Mavic series are delving into the FPV world, using the greater speed and agility of FPV-equipped quads to create highly cinematic content.  Case in point is this magnificent "mountain surfing" FPV piece from AirVuz contributor MikeBishop.tv, the two-time Drone Video Award winner. 

Take a ride via first person view (FPV) mini-drone in this fantastic video from the mountains of southern Poland, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot Mroowa.  He takes on the mountain known as Kasprowy Wierch, which is part of the Western Tatra Mountains.  The summit of the mountain has an elevation of about 6.5k ft. above seal level, or just under 2k meters.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in May of 2021.  The Tatra's form part of the broader Carpathian Mountain chain.

AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot Flying Sql earned himself a spot on the AirVuz FPV Pilots to Watch list with this beautiful mountain surfing piece from Europe's Jura Mountains.  This was his first test of the new DJI FPV system, which gives FPV pilots much higher resolution goggle footage over longer ranges and gives them the ability to better visualize their flying environment in order to create the most cinematic footage.  The video was filmed in Aiguilles de Baulmes, a masif of the Jura's in Switzerland.

Top AirVuz contributor and pilot haussmannvisuals brings us this stunning first person view (FPV) drone tour of the Dolomite Mountains in northeastern Italy.  The video includes footage of the famous Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Drei Zinnen), a three peak formation on the border between the provinces of South Tyrol (in the region of Trentino-Alto-Adigio) and Belluno (in the region of Veneto).  You'll also see the well-known mountain of Seceda (in South Tyrol) and Lake Sorapis (Lago di Sorapis) in Belluno.  

With the final season of the HBO hit "Game of Thrones" having aired this year, just about everyone has been feeling inspired to create something dynamic in homage to the awarding-winning show,  and that includes cinematic first person view (FPV) drone king Gab707. This mountain surfing flight, set to the score for “Dragonstone,” is a gorgeous, dragon-inspired flight by the AirVūz and DRL pilot. In it, he runs straight through a glacier in the Alps Mountains!    This video made the FPV Pilots to Watch list in April, 2019.

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) drone pilot piotr.G_lab earned a spot as a Drone Video of the Week Finalist for this fantastic FPV mountain surfing piece from the French Alps.  The video was filmed at "golden hour" at an altitude of about 11.5k ft. above sea level (around 3.5k m) in the Ubaye Valley in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, one of the main departments of the French Alps.  The valley, through which runs the Ubaye River, is dotted with numerous alpine lakes, some of which you'll see in the video.  

Phang-Nga is a notorious part of Thailand, renowned for its clear waters, snow-white beaches, and colorful reefs. The mountains there are carved by thick rivers and covered with jungle brush, while the bays are defined by their aqua color and limestone cliff sides. You can see the magical island for yourself in this mountain surfing flight by FPV pilot bilsonfpv who brings us on a short but cinematic journey through the province in southern Thailand.  This video earned him a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in June, 2019.

This mountain session is impressive to say the least! Take a cruise down the sharp edges, rocky hills, and incredible peaks that stick out through the clouds in this FPV video by Felix Matheron. The advent of long range mountain surfing has really changed the game as far as cinematic FPV is concerned and this mountain line is certainly one of the pieces that will impress audiences for some time to come. This highly cinematic piece earned the talented contributor a spot on the AirVuz FPV Pilots to Watch list in September, 2019.

Prepare to be amazed by this fantastic first person view (FPV) mountain surfing video by top AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot Gaspard Bettinger.  The video was filmed flying over the snow-covered French Alps, home to the highest mountains in the entire Alps system.  Watch how he effortlessly skims along thin rock ridges before plunging into the valleys below.  Beautifully edited with the ReelSteady post-production stabilization, this video earned our talented content creator a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in January, 2021.   

First-person view (FPV) mountain surfing requires considerable piloting skills; there is generally no recovering a racing quad that crashes cruising along a mountain ridge.  Flying "in formation", with one quad chasing another, ups the difficulty and the stakes even further.  That's what makes this piece from FPV Filmz so incredible.  The video features footage from two very skilled FPV pilots flying in tandem on California's Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in the contiguous United States.

We all know that first person view (FPV) mountain surfing requires some very skillful piloting, but how about mountain surfing during the low-light twilight hours?!  And who better to take this on than top drone racing pilot Gab707, who can lay a fair claim to have invented the genre of mountain surfing?  Check out his fantastic piece from the Swiss Alps, where a delay in finding a suitable takeoff spot led to a loss of daylight hours.  This video earned Gab707 a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in January, 2020.  

The Italian island of Sicily is well known for its seductive beaches, stunning coasts, and historic towns.  And its mountains.  Mount Etna is the highest and most famous of the Sicilian mountains, but there are many more volcanic mountains to see.  Enter AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot Livyu FPV.   In this video, he takes us over some of the island’s incredible volcanos and mountains, earning himself a spot on the AirVuz FPV Pilots to Watch list in July of 2019.

Top contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot Andrea Giumelli brings us this magnificent FPV mountain surfing video from Italy's Dolomite peaks.  The video was filmed with a GoPro Hero 10 Black action camera mounted to an FPV quad with a long-range Crossfire setup.  Featuring some of the best Dolomites mountain surfing shots we've seen, this video made the FPV Pilots to Watch list in August of 2022.  Part of the Southern Limestone Alps, the Dolomites extend across several provinces of Italy's Trentino-Alto-Adigio and Veneto Regions.   

For a quick journey up Space Mountain, you need only soak up the fantastic FPV goodness found in this drone video by pilot Orbi_fpv.  He uses the always stunning Swiss Alps as his setting for some unbelievable long range mountain surfing, and we're telling you the footage is so incredible it stands on its own, without the need for an audio track.  We watched this freestyle masterpiece on a loop and decided this guy had a one-way ticket to our FPV Pilots to Watch List in April 2020.  Bravo on this cinematic gem, Orbi_fpv.

To get a sense of how far first person view (FPV) drone videos have evolved from their decidedly non-cinematic origins, check out this fantastic FPV mountain surfing piece from AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot ARIA_FPV.  Shot in the Swiss Alps during the winter months, the video features some incredibly smooth footage flying over the ridges in some of the world's most spectacular alpine scenery.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch, the second video from this talented content creator to be so recognized.

French FPV freestyle pilot FaroùkFPV admitted there was a fair amount of stress while creating this breathtaking long range footage in the Mercantour National Park, north of Nice in France. Nonetheless, he got the job done with a help of a good friend, and he cruised through this alpine landmark, known for it's mountains, gorges, and picturesque lakes.  The final product feels like a dreamscape for the happiest of birds, so we felt like it was time for his first appearance on our FPV Pilots to Watch List in January 2020.  Bravo, Faroùk! 

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) drone pilot Gab707 can make fair claim to having invented the genre of FPV mountain surfing videos, having been one of the first to conquer the mighty Alps with an FPV mini-drone.  In this magnificent video, he takes us over a very different set of mountains - the Tordrillo Mountains in Alaska.  With peak elevations of around 11.4k ft. above sea level (around 3.5k meters), they are visible on a clear day from Anchorage.  This video made the FPV Pilots to Watch list in April, 2021. 

First person view (FPV) mountain surfing is the art of flying an FPV racing quad down the side of a mountain almost "surfing" it like a wave.  For a great example of this exciting FPV sub-genre, check out this FPV mountain surfing video by AirVuz contributor vito losito. Our pilot absolutely loses his mind heading full throttle down the mountainside and over the lush, green trees. It’s a lesson in “go big or go home.” For his efforts, our contributor earned a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in August, 2019.

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot Cst FPV gets WAY out there over the Alps Mountains with his long-range setup in this video.  Shot at golden hour, he used the ReelSteadyGO post-production stabilization package to make the footage incredibly smooth and cinematic.  He flies what appears to be several mi./km from home base over some extremely rugged alpine scenery, bringing the quad home safely.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in late June of 2022.  

This drone flight through the countryside of Switzerland, is incredible. Using his cinematic FPV skills pilot dannyemcgee takes us through one of the most idyllic locations in the world with his mini quad. Opening with shots through the Alps Mountain range, he'll head down the ravines that surround the mountains and jetting down glacial waterfalls. He’ll then pass over small, mountain villages and back over the mountain peaks at sunset.  This video earned a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in October, 2019.

As he puts it, FPV pilot vasiliz is back at it and showing off in this mountain surfing video. The Drone Video Awards FPV Freestyle Flow nominee is floating and barreling over the mountains, fully green with foliage in summer. His skills as a pilot are showcased throughout, even though he says he was feeling a bit rusty during this flight. It’s an epic location in the hands of a great pilot, and we’d definitely recommend giving this video (which was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in July, 2019) a watch.  

Top AirVuz contributor Arnaud Lesueur brings us this fantastic drone video from the French Alps.  The video combines setup shots with a gimbal-stabilized drone with adrenaline-filled first person view (FPV) shots skimming along the mountain ridges.  The video was filmed near Mont Blanc, the highest peak of the Alps, which has a sunnit elevation of about 15.8k ft. above sea level or around 4.8k m.  While the peak itself is in France, the massif of which it is part straddles the borders with neighboring Switzerland and Italy.  

For a first upload to AirVuz, brand-new contributor and pilot Gabriel Widmann brings us this outstanding first person view (FPV) drone mountain surfing video from the French Alps.  The video was filmed with a GoPro Hero 6 action camera mounted to a five inch quad.  The video was filmed near the town of Briançon in the Hautes-Alpes Department, not far from the Swiss border; it's the highest city in the entire Alps region.  This video was picked by the AirVuz editorial staff for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in June of 2023.  

The Dolomite Mountains in northeastern Italy are home to some of the world's most beautiful alpine scenery, and there's no better way to see them than through the lens of a first person view (FPV) mini-drone.  That much is clear from this excellent FPV reel by AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot b1z10_fpv.  The video employs some very creative "setup" shots with a (gimbal-stabilized) DJI Mavic Air 2; these shots help to convey the immensity of these peaks, which fom part of the Southern Limestone Alps.  

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) drone pilot CineStyleFPV returns with this fantastic FPV mountain surfing piece from the Swiss Alps.  In addition to some stunning views of the Grindlewald Glacier, the video features some epic "formation flight" footage of his fellow pilot.  Check out the "air-to-air" sequences which start at around the :22 and :52 marks; this would be impressive footage even from far less demanding (and spectacular) surroundings.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in October, 2022.  

Check out this first person view (FPV) drone mountain surfing video from one of the most well-known volcanoes in Central America, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot noahmalin.  The Arenal Volcano is located in northwestern Costa Rica, in the Alajuela Province.  Dormant for centuries, Arenal erupted in 1968 and maintained a more-or-less continuously eruptive state for an incredible 42 years before going domant again in 2010.  The volcano has a peak elevation of about 5.350k ft. above sea level ora bit over 1.6k m.  

Take a ride through the Pyrenees with first person view (FPV) pilot KristianFPV. In this long range flight, he’ll take on the famous mountain range as fall turns to winter, lightly blanketing the mountains in snow. The Pyrenees Mountains separate the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of Europe, serving as the natural boundary between Spain and France. The range is rich in timber, as you can see in this FPV video.  Filmed with long-range FPV equipment, this video made the AirVuz FPV Pilots to Watch list in November, 2020.

The Făgăraș Mountains are the highest of the Southern Carpathians of Romania. Within the range is Bâlea Lake, a glacial lake that lies at just over 2k meters above sea level (a bit under 6.7k ft.). It is there that we find AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) FPV pilot Suciu Adrian as he tests his quads capabilities above the snowy mountains that surround the lake. He’ll mountain surf the peaks, then track a snowboarder with his quad as they both head down the untouched terrain.

Former Drone Video of the Week Winner Jturner brings us this fantastic first person view (FPV) done video Italy's Mt. Stromboli, one of the country's four currently (as of 2022) active volcanoes.  Stromboli is one of the eight Aeolian Islands, a small archipelago just north of the giant island of Sicily in the Tyrrhenian Sea (an inlet of the Mediterranean Sea).  With a peak elevation of about 3k ft. above sea level (around 925 m), Stromboli has been in near-continuous eruption for thousands of years.  

Top contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot vasiliz lights up the Pyrenees Mountains region with this highly cinematic FPV piece.  He uses his tremendously smooth flying skills to his advantage in this piece as he takes us over the snow-capped trees, diving down the mountains and through an empty chair lift.  Demonstrating the power of cinematic FPV to give us a new perspective of our world, this video was picked as a Finalist at the second Annual Drone Video Awards for FPV Freestyle Flow. 

The art of first person view (FPV) mountain surfing has evolved in a much more cinematic direction in the past couple of years, as talented pilots have become increasingly fearless and focused on capturing the best possible video footage.  For an example of this emerging art form, check out this fantastic reel by top AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot chrissbergan.  He takes us on an epic ride along the endless rocky mountain ridges of Norway, providing a thrill that earned him a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in March, 2021.  

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot ShaggyFPV earned himself another spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in January, 2021 with this fantastic long-range mountain surfing piece from the Austrian Alps.  The video was shot in the Dorfertal, a valley in the Hohe Tauern National Park.  The valley lies in the shadow of the Grossglockner (Großglockner), which is the highest mountain in Austria and has a summit elevation of 3.8k meters above sea level or a bit under 12.5k ft.  

This mountain surfing video is straight out of any first person view (FPV) drone pilot’s wildest dreams. A set of stunning locations in three countries in the Alps, a professional level cinematic set up, and liquid smooth runs landed this flight by KoryFPV on our AirVuz FPV Pilots to Watch list in September of 2019. The film features the great mountain ranges in Slovenia, Austria and Italy taking us over the snow-covered peaks, down the rock faces to the glacial lakes, and across the foliage covered bases of the formidable mountains. 

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot Gav707 can make a credible claim to have invented the genre of cinematic FPV mountain surfing, in which long range FPV gear is used to capture some of the world's most spectacular alpine scenery.  This incredible video is a prime examples of his pioneering work in this area is this piece, which included some very skillful post-production stabilization editing.  This video was picked as the Winner in the Freestyle Flow category at the second annual Drone Video Awards.  

Winter in the Alps is a time for skiing, but in recent years it's also became a haven for (highly skilled) first person view (FPV) drone pilots.  Witness this outstanding video by top AirVuz contributor ARIA_FPV.  The video was filmed in Grisons (Graubünden), the largely German-speaking canton which covers the eastern part of the country.   It was shot during the last hours of sunlight in the short winter days, with the sun setting in the west.  Starting at about the :55 mark, there's an epic shot cruising along a sharp ridge.  

Former Drone Video of the Week Finalist Jturner brings us this fantastic first person view (FPV) drone video from the Alps Mountains.  The video was captured over the course of a month-long ski trip through the region.  The piece features footage from the following locations: the village of Engelberg, in the canton of Oberwalden near the center of Switzerland; the villages of Grimentz and Zinal, in the southwestern Swiss canton of Valais; the village of Zermatt), near the Matterhorn; and the fabled Fench ski resort town of Chamonix.  

This video is not “just some dives in the Alps,” it’s a ride through one of the most famous mountain ranges in the world. AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot vltluigi takes us to the French Alps where he will perform plenty of dives, but will also take us around the lush forest that surrounds the peaks. It’s one of those pieces that seems so simple, yet is incredibly captivating in a way that only mini quads can be.  This video was tapped for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in September, 2019.

Take in these marvelous first person view (FPV) drone views from the USA's Rocky Mountains, compliments of top AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot carterfilmz.  The video was filmed over the course of a trip to film a music video in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, home to the highest peaks of the entire Rocky Mountain Range.  The mountains cover most of the western two-thirds of the state, with the eastern third covered by the Great Plains.  This highly cinematic piece was selected for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in mid-April of 2022.  

You will not fail to be amazed by this incredible first person view (FPV) drone mountain surfing video from Italy's Dolomite Mountains, compliments of top AirVuz contributor Cst FPV.  The highly cinematic piece was filmed in various locations throughout the range, which is part of the Southern Limestone Alps and which is located in the Trentino-Alto-Adigio and Veneto regions.  The mountains, which reach heights of up to about just under about 11k ft. above sea level (a little over 3.3k m), are known for their spectacular ridges.  .    

Top AirVuz contributor and 2018 Drone Racing League (DRL) Champion nurkfpv created this stunning first person view (FPV) video from a famous mountain in Southern France.  It's called the Montagne Sainte-Victoire, and it's a mountain ridge which runs about 18 km (around 11 mi.) on an east-west axis, beginning at a point a few km/mi east of Aix-en-Provence.  The mountain featured prominently in the paintings of the great Post-Impressionist Paul Cezanne, and later inspired the work of Pablo Picasso.   

Check out this fantastic first-person view (FPV) mountain surfing piece from the mountains of France, compliments of former Drone Video Award winner Tomz FPV.  He was able to get some incredibly smooth footage out of his long-range Crossfire TBS setup over the Vercors Mountains.  The Vercors is a series of mountains and plateaus situated across the Isère and Drôme departments in the French Prealps, the "foothills" chain west of the Dauphine Alps.  The Vercors have elevations up to about 2.3k meters above sea level or around 7.7k ft.  

You'll get an entirely new perspective of the volcanic Mt. Etna on the Italian island of Sicily with this amazing first person view (FPV) video by Livyu FPV.  With an elevation of about 3.3k meters above sea level (about 11k ft.), Mount Etna is the highest peak in Italy south of the Alps; it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list in 2013.  In the video, the pilot uses long-range video and RC transmission to take on this fearsome monster with a racing drone, earning a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in August, 2019.

Check out these stunning first person view (FPV) drone video from the Swiss Alps, compliments of AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot Cst FPV.  With some great setup-shots from a DJI Mavic drone the video features a series of epic long-range FPV rides.  In the first FPV shot, you'll dive down a waterfall, and fruther along in the video you'll take some heart-stopping rides over a series of seemingly impossibly narrow mountain ridges.  The FPV footage was captured with a 7 inch quad with a long-range comunication setup.  

Check out this highly cinematic first person view (FPV) video of one of the most iconic sights of Scotland, compliments of contributor and FPV pilot ARI3S FPV.  The scene is the Buachaille Etive Mòr, a mountain which sits just east of Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands.  With a peak elevation of just over 1k meters (about 3.3k ft.), the mountain sits at the head of the glen (valley) of Etive.  One of the most-photographed sites in Scotland, the mountain appeared in the 2012 James Bond movie Skyfall.  

Flying his first person view (FPV) racing drone out over the mountains of Switzerland, AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot doclate says this was one of his best sessions of the summer. The Swiss Alps are, undoubtedly, one of the greatest locations in Europe to take a mini quad out to mountain surf. It’s easy to see why he loved this run because of the smooth ride coupled with the lines he’s running and dives he’s taking in this video, which made the FPV Pilots to Watch list in March, 2020.  

Ryssdalen, Trøndelag is a valley in Norway that is close to Sorvika and Nordvika off the coast of the Atlantic Ocean in Central Norway.   In this video, AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot Lervik FPV takes us on an epic FPV flight through the golden valley on a bright afternoon. After a a ride through the valley, it is time to hit the mountains. The clean line he flies, along with the crisp and clear footage he takes with his FPV-equipped racing quad makes this an absolutely spectacular video. 

Behold this magnificent first person view (FPV) done video from the mighty Alps Mountains by AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot Dani Doncel.  The video was shot while FPV surfing in the shadow of one of the world's most well-known peaks: the Matterhorn.  Located in the Pennine Alps near the Swiss-Italian border, it's known for its almost perfectly symmetrical shape.  With a peak altitude of 14.7k ft. above sea level (4.5k m), its western face wasn't scaled until the 1960's.  This video made the FPV Pilots to Watch list in June, 2022. 

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot mcflury_fpv brings us this excellent one-shot FPV mountain surfing piece from the Swiss Alps.  In 34 seconds, you will cruise along a tower mountain ridge, dive down towards a glacier below, pull up, and then tear down a near-vertical cliff face.  This demonstrates some serious FPV piloting skills, not to mention bravery - there's no recovering from a mistake in this environment.  It also earned him a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in April, 2021.  

Winner of the FPV Freestyle: Technical category at the second annual Drone Video Awards, top FPV pilot Tomz FPV does a phenomenal job of using his considerable technical flying prowess to make highly cinematic FPV content.  This piece from the Swiss Alps is a great example.  It was shot on a cloudy day, and you can be sure that the conditions represented an extra test of FPV flying skill.  At the same time, the fog and clouds make the footage even more epic, as you will no doubt agree when you watch it.  

Using his Lmultirotors Chimera 5-inch frame with Azure 5140 props and the Runcam Eagle2 Pro camera, AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot Cst FPV flies what he has called one of his most cinematic flights yet. He takes his quad to its max capabilities, flying through the tops of the snow-capped mountains and above the clouds. We have to imagine this pilot was feeling free and far away while taking on this flight, which earned him a spot on the AirVuz FPV Pilots to Watch list in May of 2019.

Mauro Pagliai is one of the top content creators in the AirVuz community, and his move into first person view (FPV) flight has been particularly impressive.  In this piece he will take you on a tour of the Dolomite Mountains in northeastern Italy, which are part of the Southern Limestone Alps and are spread across the Trentino-Alto-Adigio and the Veneto regions of the country.  As you will see, the video opens with some "establishment" shots taken with a gimbal-stabilized drone before heading in for some epic FPV mountain surfing.

Top contributor and first person view (FPV) drone pilot Bibo FPV earned himself a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in late September, 2022 with this fantastic FPV mountain surfing piece from the fabled Austrian Lake District.  In the video, he dives down the side of Traunstein Mountain, which overlooks the Traunsee lake.  The mountain's peak stands 5.5k ft. above sea level (just under 1.7k m).  The lake covers an area of almost ten square mi. (about 25 square km) and is over 600 ft. deep (190 m).   

Check out this fantastic first person view (FPV) drone mountain surfing video from Italy's Dolomite Mountains, compliments of top AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot b1z1o_fpv.  The video employs some very creative "setup" shots with a gimbal-stabilized drone; these shots help to convey the immensity of these peaks, which fom part of the Southern Limestone Alps.  This video, which includes an epic ridge dive starting at about the 1:00 mark, was picked by the AirVuz editorial staff for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in February, 2023.  

As first person view (FPV) pilots continue to hone their skills and FPV technology continues to improve, FPV video content is proliferating in several directions.  In contrast to early freestyling videos, which were all about showing technical flying skills, we're seeing FPV pilots focusing on making more cinematic shots of beautiful landscapes, as well as increasing skills with respect to filming moving "targets".  This video by J-TRUE FPV illustrates both FPV styles, earning him a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in May, 2020.

Top contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot Cst FPV brings us another magnificent FPV mountain surfing piece from the mountains of northern Italy.   Opening with some nice shots of his quad before sending it into action, the video will take you out on a long-range journey over some of the most beautiful natural scenery in Europe.  The video was stabilized with ReelSteady, which imparts a smooth, cinematic feel to the footage.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in early June, 2021.  

This stylized edit was a result of FPV drone pilot HarsiFPV partnering with professional videographer William Flandrin. Watch as footage from both a racing quad and Mavic Pro are woven together to provide incredible views of the Ballons des Vosges Nature Park in northeastern France. The drones also got a little of the limelight too as their sporty frames are captured in several shots. The entire edit reflects HarsiFPV's enthusiasm for making great videos, and that was a perfect reason to add him to our FPV Pilots to Watch list in February 2020!

Check out this unique first-person view (FPV) drone mountain surfing video from the Carpathian Mountains, compliments of AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot Bibo FPV.  The video was filmed on Pietrosul Rodnei Peak in the Rodna Mountains, which form part of northern Romania's Inner Eastern Carpathian Mountains.  The main ridge of the Rodna Mountains forms the natural boundary between the country's Transylvania and Marmures Regions.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in June of 2022.  

For a first upload to AirVuz, first person view (FPV) pilot fure_fpv brings us this fantastic long-range mountain surfing video from Norway.  The video was filmed in the mountains of Sunnmøre, which is part of Møre og Romsdal County in the region of Western Norway.  Using the DJI Air FPV system, his quad was able to fully explore the rocky mountains surrounding a beautiful alpine lake.  The video features some epic footage skimming along tall ridges which are partially obscured by cloud cover.  

Talented AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) drone pilot Arnaud Lesueur spent three hours climbing in the French Alps to create this marvelous FPV surfing video surfing over and around what he calls (and with good apparent reason) his favorite cliff.  The piece includes some epic shots, including two spectacular "gap" shots at the :28 and :38 marks, respectively.  The video was filmed near the famous skiing town of Chamonix, which lies just north of Mt. Blanc (the tallest mountain in the Alps) in the Haute-Savoie department.    

Most first person view (FPV) drone pilots use a GoPro action camera to make cinematic video content.  Less commonly, highly experienced FPV pilots are turning to higher end (read: heavier and more expensive) cameras to increase the quality of their videos.  In this video, top AirVuz contributor AdventureGraph surfs the Alps Mountains with a Panasonic Lumix GH4 mounted to a AOS Cine "cinelifter" drone.  The camera weighs over a pound (about a half kg), about 4x that of a GoPro, but you can see the results in terms of the video quality.  

First person view mountain surfing - in which an FPV quad is flown over mountain ridges and other alpine features - has become increasingly cinematic.  Witness this spectacular piece by AirVuz contributor and pilot coolguy.fpv.  The video was shot over Big Cottonwood Canyon in the Wasatch Mountains (part of the Rockies) just a bit southeast of Salt Lake City, Utah.  It's popular with summer mountain enthusiasts as well as skiers and snowboarders.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in October, 2021.  

The Sierra Nevada Mountains, which lie along the California-Nevada border, offer some of the USA's most dramatic alpine scenery.  Perhaps not surprisingly, these peaks have become something of a magnet for talented first person view (FPV) drone pilots, who have discovered their spectacular vistas for FPV mountain surfing.  In this excellent piece, an FPV Pilots to Watch list pick, top AirVuz contributor harleyhiles tackles the ridges of California's Sonora Peak, which reaches an altitude of about 11.5k ft. above sea level (3.5k m).  

For a first upload to AirVuz, brand-new contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot mschlupf brings us this fantastic long-range FPV piece from the Alps Mountains.  The highlight of this highly cinematic piece is an epic run down into an alpine valley, covering what appears to be several km/mi with continuous footage.  It's testament to the reliability of today's long-range FPV setups as well as to some very impressive piloting skills.  This video earned our first-time contributor a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in August, 2020.

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot maga.fpv brings us this stunning FPV mountain surfing video from Kazakhstan in Central Asia.  The video was filmed on Khan Tengri, which is Kazakhstan's highest mountain peak.  Khan Tengri is located in the eastern part of the country, straddling the borders with Kyrgyzstan to the north and China to the east.  Part of the Tian Shan Mountains (of which it is the second-highest peak), it reaches a height of just under 23k ft. above sea level or around 7k m. 

First person view (FPV) drones are increasingly being used to create footage for promotion of tourism.  This is particularly true with respect to FPV mountain surfing, where talented FPV pilots are able to fly their mini-drones over some of the world's most difficult (and beautiful) terrain.  AirVuz contributor mcflury_fpv brings us an excellent example of this emerging art form; the video was used to promote tourism in the Swiss Alps.  For his efforts, he was rewarded with a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in January, 2021.  

Russia's Lake Baikal is, by a large margin, the deepest freshwater lake in the world, with a maximum depth of almost 5.4k ft. or over 1.6k m.  Part of the reason for its depth is that it's surrounded by mountains - in effect, the lake is a giant valley between three distinct mountain ranges.  In this outstanding first person view (FPV)  drone piece, top FPV pilot craig_dt surfs the peaks which surround this giant body of water in Siberian Russia.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in April, 2022.   

Talented content creator and FPV pilot Drone Mood continues his "Lone Rider" series with this fantastic video from the France.  Shot primarily in the peaks of the French Alps, the video combines footage from a (gimbal-stabilized) DJI Mavic 3 drone, a Sony A7RIII ground camera, and FPV drone footage.  The Mavic and the Sony cameras provide the "setup" of the location, which you'll then experience from an FPV perspective as he embarks on some epic FPV mountain surfing.  This was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in April, 2023.     

In this video by Felix Matheron, you'll get an aerial perspective of some of the world's most beautiful alpine scenery.  What makes this video different from almost any other though is the way that it mixes footage from two very different types of drones: a DJI Mavic Pro 2 and a first person view (FPV) racing drone.  The former provides a highly stabilized and cinematic type of video experience, while the latter permits much more aggressive flight paths.  Watch and appreciate how well the video blends the two.  

Check out this dramatic first person view (FPV) drone mountain surfing video from the Andes Mountains in Chile, compliments of AirVuz contributor raguayo_arenas.  The video was filmed at Portillo, which lies in the Valparaiso Region, about 100 mi. (around 160 km) northeast of the capital city of Santiago.  The lowest lifts at the resort begin at an altitude of just under 8.4k ft. above sea level (around 2.5k m), while the highest lifts extend up to 10.9k ft. ASL (3.3k m).  The video was filmed just after the season's first snowfall.  

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot CLIFFORD FPV brings us this epic mountain surfing piece from Blue Mountains of Australia.  Located just west of Sydney, the mountains form part of the country's Great Dividing Range.  Composed of a number of sub-ranges, the Blue Mountains reach peak heights of up to about 1.2k meters above sea level or around 3.9k ft.  Perfect for a day of mountain surfing, as you'll see in the video.  This was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in August of 2020.

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor and first-person view (FPV) pilot DangusFPV brings us this incredible FPV mountain surfing video from the mountains of New Hampshire in the USA's New England region.  The video was filmed at Crawford Notch, which is a mountain pass in the White Mountains.  The White Mountains form part of the Appalachian chain which runs down the eastern side of the United States and into the Canadian Maritime Provinces.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in October, 2020.  

AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot Drone Passion 13 brings us this highly cinematic FPV piece from the mountains of Provence in Southern France.  The highlight reel encompasses his best FPV moments from the Summer of 2020, and it makes for an impressive collage.  Provence is a historical region which covers the southeastern part of the country; it corresponds roughly to the modern-day region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.  This video was picked for a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in October, 2020. 

The ridges of the Alps Mountains offer some of the world's most beautiful mountain scenery.  They are, however, difficult and in many cases impossible to access.  That's why talented first person view (FPV) drone pilots are increasingly braving the challenges of flying in this environment to capture stunning aerial footage of these landforms by flying over them at high speed.  Case in point is this excellent piece from the Swiss Alps by AirVuz contributor nik.scherer.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in July, 2022.    

Talented content creator and first person view (FPV) pilot Ivan Merino brings us this excellent FPV mountain surfing piece.  The video opens with an approach to the mountain through a low-lying fog, slowly revealing the contours of its rocky ridges.  Then he cruises down the side of the mountain, tearing through the mist as he heads into the valley below.  In a later shot, he flies right past himself as he stands atop one  of the peaks.  This video was picked for the AirVuz FPV Pilots to Watch list in May of 2021.  

Check out this epic first person view (FPV) mountain surfing video from the Caucasus Mountains, compliments of AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot vaska gedenidze.  The video was filmed flying over the mountain known as Ushba, which is located in the Svaneti region of northwestern Georgia.  The double-peaked mountain has a maximum elevation of around 15.5k ft. above sea level, or around 4.7k m.  With its distinctive, symmetrical shape, the mountain is sometimes known as the Matterhorn of the Caucasus.  

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) drone pilot CataFpv brings us this fantastic FPV mountain surfing video from Italy's Apennine Mountains.  The video was filmed near the town of Prati Di Tivo in Teramo, the northernmost of the four provinces which make up the region of Abruzzo that covers a section in the east-central part of the country.  The Apennine Mountains run in a series of sub-chains down most of the Italian peninsula.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in November of 2022.

One battery pack was all it took for top AirVuz contributor and pilot fidofpv to create this stunning first person view (FPV) drone video from the Dolomite Mountains in northeastern Italy.  The video was filmed flying over the main ridge of Mt. Seceda, one of the peaks of this storied mountain range.  Located in the province of South Tyrol, Seceda has a peak elevation of just over 8.25k ft. above sea level or around 2.5k m.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in February of 2024.  

Check out these stunning first person view (FPV) drone views of the Austrian Alps, compliments of AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot FlaviuFpv.  The video was filmed over Hohe Veitsch, a peak in the southeastern state of Styria.  The tallest mountain in the Mürzsteg Alps, Hohe Veitsch has a summit altitude of abou 6.5k ft. above sea level or around 1.9k m.  Picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in October of 2023, the video opens with a nice run along the ridge at the mountain's peak, followed by a steep dive down into the valley below.  

In the early days of first person view (FPV) drones, flight footage was often difficult to watch - certainly, nobody would call it "relaxing".  Fast-forward a few years, and "relaxing" is an accurate description of the footage in this excellent piece by AirVuz contributor and pilot halitic.  Shot over the mountains of Austria, the footage from a long-range cruise over a ridge of the Alps is beautifully smooth and stabilized.  It was enough to earn our content creator a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in October, 2020.  

Check out this fantastic first person view (FPV) mountain surfing video from Italy's Monte Baldo masif, compliments of AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot GioBov FPV.  A sub-range of the Italian Alps, Monte Baldo sits across the provinces of Trento and Verona in the Trentino-Alto-Adigio and Veneto Regions, respectively.  The range is bounded on the west by Lake Garda, Italy's largest lake.  The footage was captured with a GoPro Hero 8 action camera, with ReelSteady GO applied in post-production for image stabilization.  

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot Scottyblue77 earned a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in September 2024 with this fantastic mountain surfing video from the Alps Mountains.  The video was filmed in Switzerland and Italy.  Featured locations include the Sustenpass, which connects the Swiss cantons of Berne and Uri; the Furkapass, a bit to the south, which was a famous James Bond movie filming location; the Grimselpass;  the Gavia Pass, in Italy's Lombardy region; and Switzerland's Nuefenpass.  

Prepare to be blown away by this short but epic first person view (FPV) mountain surfing piece from Norway, compliments of AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot chrissbergan.  The video was filmed over a mountain known as the Troll Wall (Trollveggen), which is part of the Store Trolltind massif in Møre og Romsdal, one of the counties of the official Western Norway region.  With a vertical face of about 1.1k meters (around 3.6k ft.) the Troll Wall has the distinction of being the tallest vertical rock face on the continent of Europe.  

AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) drone pilot Steven FPVRacer brings us this excellent FPV mountain surfing video from the French Alps.  The video was filmed around the ski resort of Gréolières-les-Neiges.  Known in part for being one of the closest ski resorts to the heart of the French Riviera, it's only about 35 mi. (around 60 km) from either Nice or Cannes.  The footage was captured with a GEPRC Mark 4 drone.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list at the end of Februay of 2022.  

To see the possibilities inherent in long-range first person view (FPV) drone flight, look no further than this piece by top AirVuz contributor and pilot Jturner.  He mounted a GoPro Hero 10 HD camera to a 7" racing quadcopter and conquered nothing less than the mighty Matterhorn mountain in the Swiss Alps.  Located near the Italian border, the famously symmetrical peak stands almost 4.5k meters (about 14.7k ft.) above sea level.  The video was stabilized with the ReelSteady Go post-production software.
