Croatia from the Sky

For a two minute+ tour of some of the most beautiful spots in Croatia, it's hard to beat this video by contributor Hausmannvisuals.  Using a drone, he gives us some epic aerial shots of Split, Dubrovnik, Pelješac, Sreser, Ston, and other spots in this beautiful Southeast European country.  As you take in the beauty of the Adriatic waters, the mountain fortresses, and the medieval towns, you will appreciate why Croatia has been a favored shooting location for HBO's blockbuster Game of Thrones series. 

Croatia has quickly become one of the top tourist destinations in Europe.  Formerly a part of Yugoslavia, it has been a hot spot for vacationers, in no small part due to the popular HBO show “Game of Thrones” which has prominently featured a number of Croatian locations. DVOW nominee and Drone plot TAT-VT took this spectacular drone travel video while visiting Croatia that includes shots of many of the walled, medieval towns, Plitvice Lakes National Park waterfalls, and the incredible waters of the Adriatic Sea.

The Balkan region of Southeastern Europe is home to many beautiful countries, perhaps none more so than the country with the longest coastline, Croatia. The Republic of Croatia is becoming a major tourist destination, thanks in part to the popularity of the Game of Thrones TV series which has been filmed here. The country's historic charm, world-renowned beaches, unique architecture and rolling hills make it the perfect place to film with a drone. While Croatia doesn't sit entirely on the sea, its long Adriatic coast dominates the landscape of the country.  Top contributor Freeway Prod brings Croatia's Adriatic Coast to life with this amazing drone video.  It includes footage of some of the most well known spots on the Dalmatian (southern) part of the coastline, such as Dubrovnik, Split, and Krka National Park.  It also features footage from some spots in Istria (the peninsula on the northern part of the country) such as the "circular" town of Rovinj.  

New AirVuz contributor Ordronary used a DJI Air 2S drone to create this excellent aerial video record of a trip to the Balkan country of Croatia.  The video opens with a shot of the waterfalls of Krka National Park, near Šibenik.  At about the :30 mark, you'll see the walled city of Dubrovnik, of HBO's Game of Thrones fame, followed by the Zlatni Rat Beach on the island of Brač.  Other featured locations include the island of Hvar, the tiered waterfalls of Plitvice Lakes National Park, and more.  

Multiple DVOW Finalist DroneDirector brings us this magnificent drone video from the city of Dubrovnik, Croatia.  The first part of the video features shots of from the Elaphiti Islands northwest of the city, specifically the islands of Koločep and Lopud.  Then you'll head to Copacabana, Cava, and Sunset Beaches on the Lapad Peninsula, which joins the mainland just to the west of central Dubrovnik.  Other featured locations include Franjo Tuđman Bridge, Fort Lovrijenac, Srđ Mountain, and the magnificent Old City of Dubrovnik.

Avid traveler and content creator iDrone Aerials, gives us a cinematic HD view of the magnificent Croatian seaport city of Dubrovnik on the Adriatic Sea.  This well-preserved 11th-century city on the Dalmatian Coast has gotten an enormous boost in recent years after it was chosen as a filming location for seasons 2-8 of HBO's hit show "Game of Thrones" (Dubrovnik is the fictional King's Landing, the capital city of Westeros.) This video was a finalist in the Game of Drones category for the 2nd Annual Drone Video Awards.

Top contributor BeemFlights brings us these marvelous aerial views from two spots on Croatia's famed Dalmatian Coast, the southern part of the country's Adriatic Sea coastline.  The first is the splendidly well-preserved walled city of Dubrovnik, the former capital of the powerful Republic of Ragusa which reached its height in the 15th-16th centuries, which was a primary filming location for HBO's Game of Thrones series.  The second spot is the town of Makarska, which lies to the north, near the island of Brač.

Croatia's Yacht Week has become one of the most important annual events in the rarefied world of international yachting.  It's actually one of a half dozen or so Yacht Weeks held around the world.  The Croatian version, which is the largest in Europe, is basically a seven day floating party along the country's famed Dalmatian Coast in the Adriatic Sea.  Contributor Jantrnkaproductions used a combination of ground camera and drone footage to record the festivities in the Summer of 2018.

Check out this fantastic drone video of the great city of Zadar, Croatia, compliments of AirVuz contributor Beniツ.  The oldest continuously-inhabited city in this Southeast European country, it's also the second-largest city on Croatia's Damlatian Coast after Split.  Zadar is part of the Ravni Kotari historical region, which covers the northern part of Dalmatia.  An important outpost of the Roman Empire, Zadar went on to become a key stronghold of the Venetian Empire, particularly after much of its hinterland came under Ottoman control.  

Croatia's Korcula and Mljet Islands are two of the larger islands which lie off the country's long Dalmatian Coast in the Adriatic Sea.  Korcula is the larger of the two, and is the largest island in the country after the northern island of Krk.  Top contributor and pilot Amaury Descours used a DJI Phantom 3 Pro drone to aerially capture these two islands, which have played an important role in the affairs of the region for thousands of years and are now among the world's most popular sailing locations.   

Check out this fantastic DVOW nominated video of Croatia's Murter Island, compliments of former Drone Video of the Week winner Pushkinflyteam.  Sometimes called the Pearl of the Adriatic, the island is part of a group of islands called the Šibenik Archipelago.  Covering about 19 square km (around 8 square mi.), the island is connected the Dalmatian Coast mainland by a canal near Tisno, which is spanned by a small draw-bridge.  The video features excellent footage of the island's main (namesake) town, located near its northern end.  

Contributor World_Wide_Drone brings us this beautiful aerial video of Hvar, one of the islands off of Croatia's Dalmatian Coast.  Hvar is one of a half-dozen larger islands off the central part of the coast, in the Adriatic Sea.  Like Korcula, Mljet, and the other islands in the area, Hvar is known for its beaches, seaside villages, and of course epic sailing.  An ancient land, Hvar is frequently cited in authoritative rankings of the world's top island destinations.  Watch this video and you'll see why! 

Split is Croatia's second largest city, after the capital city of Zagreb.  With a metropolitan population of about 200,000, Split is also the primary city in the Dalmatia region, which covers much of the country's Adriatic Sea coastline.  Settled during the Antiquity, Split became home to Diocletian's Palace, which was built for the Roman Emperor Diocletian in the 4th century AD.  Here is an amazing bird's eye view of this cultural and historical gem, compliments of contributor and drone pilot RVB Drones. 

Top contributor Nathan Jermy used a DJI Mavic Air to create this stunning aerial view of Croatia's Plitvice Lakes National Park, one of the great natural treasures of this Southeast European country.  The park is located in the mountainous interior of the country, near the border with Bosnia.  Its centerpiece is series of waterfalls formed by 16 interconnected lakes; the falls are some of the most famous in Europe.  A national park since 1949 (when Croatia was part of Yugoslavia), it's also a UNESCO World Heritage site.

An abandoned military base in the mountainous Balkans make for an epic 4x4 road trip and a drone video to memorialize it.  Contributor Travel Lifestyle traveled with some friends in a Jeep on an adventure trip to an old Yugoslav Army base in the mountains that came to form international border separating Croatia from neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina.  Using ground footage to supplement their drone footage, they did an amazing job recording the highlights of their 4x4 trip to this eerie place.  

Contributor Nathan Jermy used a DJI Mavic Air drone to aerially film the famed Walls of Ston, in the Southeast European nation of Croatia.  The walls were built in the 14th century to protect the town of Ston, one of the most important in the Republic of Ragussa whose capital was in nearby Dubrovnik.  In terms of footage, it's considered the longest fortification system in Europe.   The Walls of Ston were used as a backdrop for scenes around King's Landing in HBO's Game of Thrones, much of which was filmed on the Dalmatian Coast.  

Zrce Beach, on the Croatia's northern Adriatic Sea coast, has become a prime spring break destination.  This is a place of DJ’s, yachts, water sports, pool parties, and a few adult beverages later.  Wished you hadn't grown up?  Join the fun and watch it all go down with an exclusive view from above.  Contributor Jantrnkaproductions uses a drone to treat us to a bird's eye view of this Mediterranean party paradise, which is still somewhat less well known than the Dalmatian Coast further south.  

Former DVOW Winner Smakozawr brings us this fantastic drone video from Croatia.  The video's first half was filmed in the Old Town of the medieval walled city of Dubrovnik, near the southern end of Croatia's Dalmatian Coast, which was made famous as a key filming location for HBO's Game of Thrones TV series.  Then it's on to the port town of Omiš, just south of Split and in the middle of the Dalmatian Coast.  The last stop is Pula, the ancient city at the tip of the Istrian Peninsula, near the northern end of Croatia's Adriatic coastline.  

Part of the Dalmatian region of Croatia, the Zlatni Rat is one of the top beaches in all of Europe. Its distinctive-looking “V” shape along with its white pebble beach and Mediterraneans pine grove makes it an easy choice for travel brochure covers. Pilot droningdutchman covers the famous beach with top-down shots of the umbrellas and blankets that bring pops of color to the white sand. He also takes a variety of pans and reveals, each one showing yet another beautiful angle of the famous beach.

Check out these marvelous 4k drone views from Croatia's Istria region, compliments of new contributor JanuszKurek.  The video features footage from Rovinj and Pula, two of the most well-known towns on this Adriatic Sea peninsula which is heavily influenced by Italian culture.  Rovinj, the smaller of the two towns, sits on a tiny promontory on the western side of Istria.  Pula, the largest Istrian city, lies near its southern tip.  An important city during the Antiquity, it's known first and foremost for its magnificent Roman Pula Arena.  

Top contributor and drone pilot Pava created this magnificent aerial video of the village of Stara Baska, a village on the Croatian island of Krk in the Adriatic Sea.  Unlike most of Croatia's other well known islands which are located off the Dalmatian Coast, Krk is situated off the country's northern Adriatic coast, not far from the border with Slovenia.  Using a DJI Inspire drone, he shows us the iconic looking island, the most populous in this Southeastern European country.

Top contributor Justin Poore created this amazing video of the Croatia's Klis Fortress, one of the most famous fortifications in Europe.  Perched on a hill overlooking the city of Split on the Dalmatian Coast, the site dates to Roman times.  The structure was later converted into a castle which was the home of the Kings of the Croatian Kingdom, which ruled over the region from roughly 900-1100AD.  Much later, the fortress appeaed as the City of Meereen in Slaver's Bay in Season 4 of HBO's Game of Thrones.

Gorski Kotar is a gorgeous highlands area of northern Croatia.  It lies mostly within Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, which runs up to the border with Slovenia.  It's sparsely populated compared to Croatia's coastal regions but includes a number of small towns and cities such as  Delnice, Čabar, and Vrbovsko, among others.  Far less well known than the Dalmatian Coast, it's nonetheless extremely beautiful, pristine country.  In this video by Mesmerized, you'll get a look at the region from a bird's eye view. 

Eight strangers gathered together to go aboard the Love Boat for Croatia's famous Yacht Week, and contributor jantrnkaproductions documented the experience with his drone.  The yacht crew was made up of individuals from various corners of the planet, and after one week together at sea, they became one big family.  Watch as they live it up on this stunning yacht cruising the Dalmatian Coast, with fine food and wine, gorgeous sea views, and the start of lifetime friendships.  

This is the first part of a multi-part drone video by contributor and pilot nikybwd taken from a trip to the Southeast European nation of Croatia.  Highlights of this part include Pula Arena in the town of Pula on the Istrian Peninsula, one of just a half-dozen surviving Roman Amphitheaters; the waterfalls of Krka National Park on the Dalmatian Coast; the triangular Zlatnia Rat Beach at the tip of Brač Island; and the town of Rovinj, squeezed onto the end of a tiny peninsula on the western side of Istria.  

Krka National Park is one of the natural treasures of Croatia.  It's located on its namesake river, just a few mi/km upstream from the river's mouth at the Dalmatian Coast city of Šibenik.  Seen from above in this excellent drone video by AirVuz contributor and pilot Ordronary, the park is known for its cascading waterfalls along the river.  The park is also known for its bio-diversity; it is home to over 800 species of plants, over 200 bird species, and a variety of fish.  The park is part of Šibenik-Knin County.  

This second video from nikybwd of a trip to Croatia opens with an epic overhead shot of the port city of Dubrovnik, capital of the Medieval Republic of Ragusa and known to Game of Thrones fans as King's Landing.  Then it's on to Split, the largest city of the Dalmatian Coast and home of Diocletian's Palace.  From there, you'll get some glimpses of the famous boating scene on the Adriatic, the impossibly narrow Zlatni Rat Beach on the island of Brač, the modern Franjo Tuđman Bridge in Dubrovnik, and more.  

For a 40 second aerial tour of the medieval gem of a city called Dubrovnik, don't miss this drone video from top contributor NGreyTravels.  The city was the seat of the Republic of Ragusa, one of the most important political entities in the Adriatic Sea in the 15th-16th centuries, when it played a key role in the spice trade.  Significant damaged during the Yugoslavian Civil War in the 1990's, it's since become one of Europe's top destinations, partly from appearing in the Game of Thrones TV series.  

Top content creator dronesantana007 brings us this stunning aerial tour of the walled city of Dubrovnik, Croatia.  Located near the southern end of the Dalmatian Coast on the Adriatic Sea, the city was the capital of the Republic of Ragusa in the late Medieval and Early Modern period, when it was one of the most important city-states in the eastern Mediterranean region.  Thanks in part to its extensive appearances in HBO's Game of Thrones series, Dubrovnik is now one of the top destinations anywhere in Southeastern Europe.  

Contributor created an amazing aerial view of one of the largest fortified cities in the Southeastern European country of Croatia.  Ružica is located in the historical region of Slavonia, which is the easternmost part of the country.  The function of Ružica has varied over time, at times serving as a defensive fortress (given its strategic border locations) and at other times a residential castle.  It is situated on the slopes of Mt. Papuk, one of the mountains of eastern Croatia.  The city dates to the 13th century.  

Contributor Alessandro put together this beautiful piece showing some of the most beautiful spots in the Southeast European nation of Croatia.  It opens with some incredible footage of Sibenik, a well-preserved Dalmatian Coast town, including its island Fort St. Nicholas.  After a stop in the Montenegran town of Budva, it's on to Dubrovnik, the medieval Ragusa capital of HBO's Game of Thrones fame. The next stops are Makarska, roughly between Split and Dubrovnik; Zadar, at the north end of the Coast; and the island of Rab.  

Trakošćan Castle is one of the most famous castles in Croatia.  It's located in the far north of the country in Varaždin County, near the Slovenian border.  It was built in the 13th century, according to some sources on a site of an earlier fortress.  It fell into disuse for many years, until the 19th century when it was "rediscovered" and renovated in the Romanticist style which was popular at the time.  Nationalized after World War II, the castle is a popular tourist attraction and the site of a museum.  

Contributor Rajnairichard created this beautiful wintertime drone video of Papuk, an important mountain in eastern Croatia.  It is the highest mountain in the historical region of Slavonia, an area which roughly corresponds to five counties in the eastern part of modern-day Croatia.  With a peak elevation of just over 950 meters (around 3.1k ft.), Papuk is one of the defining boundaries of the Pannonian Plain, the principal geographic feature of Slavonia and the breadbasket of Croatia.  

Check out this spectacular drone video of an island off the coast of northern Croatia.  Contributor James Oshoba used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to give us a bird's eye view of Rab Island, which sits off the mainland coastline near the port of Stinica.  The island is about 22 km (14 mi.) long and has a permanent population of just under 10,000 inhabitants.  It's northern end is rocky, while the southern part of the island is covered by one of the last oak forests in the entire Mediterranean region. 

Check out this beautiful drone video from the mountains of Croatia, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot bluedreamer500.  The video was shot around Mali Kozjak.  The mountain overlooks the town of Kaštela on the country's famed Dalmatian Coast.  The mountain is part of the Dinaric Alps. a chain which runs down the Balkan Peninsula, roughly parallel to the Adriatic Sea.  The mountain is high enough to offer views of Split, the country's #2 city and the largest on the Dalmatian Coast. 

Poreč, Croatia is a popular summer resort town on the western side of the Istrian Peninsula, on the northern end of the country's Adriatic sea coastline.  Dating to the Antiquity, Poreč is best known for its 6th-century Euphrasian Basilica complex in the city's Old Town which has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Other popular tourist stops are Decumanus Street, The Round Tower, Zelena Laguna, and Delfin Beach. You can see the allure of the town in this short video by pilot and cinematographer Alberto Ardit. 

Check out this drone video from the heart of Croatia's Dalmatian Coast, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot adrian.krupczynski.  The video was filmed over the port town of Omiš, which lies at the mouth of the Cetina River, about 16 mi. (around 25 km) southeast along the Adriatic Sea coastline from the city of Split.  The architecture of Omiš was heavily influenced by the Venetians, who controlled much of the Dalmatian Coast for much of the late Middle Ages and Early Modern periods.   

Contributor Buzzbomb created this amazing aerial view of a town in northern Croatia.  Motovun is situated in Istria, the largest peninsula on the Adriatic Sea, which is mostly Croatian territory with a small section in Italy.  Motovun reflects the blend of Croatian and Italian cultures which prevails in the region, and it has an Italian name as well: Montona.  The village dates to medieval times.  It is perhaps best known in modern times as the birthplace of champion race car driver Mario Andretti.  

Top contributor Minglam created this beautiful drone video of a very famous church in the Southeast European country Croatia.  It's called the Cathedral of St. Dominus, and it's in the city of Split, the country's second-largest city as well as its principal port.  The church dates to the 4th century AD, near the very dawn of Christianity (it was consecrated in the 7th century).  It's considered the oldest church in the world that remains in use and hasn't undergone any fundamental structural change.  

Here's a stunning aerial view of one of the larger towns on Croatia's Dalmatian Coast, compliments of contributor bluedreamer.  It's called Kaštel Lukšić, and it's located on the Bay of Kaštela to the west and north of Split.  With a permanent population of about 40k, Kaštel Lukšić is the second most populous town in the region after Split.  Like so much of the Dalmatian Coast, the culture here revolves around the sea; in the video you will get a glimpse of the legendary boating and sailing scene to be found here.  

The town of Poreč, Croatia lies on the west side of Istria, a triangle-shaped peninsula on the country's northern Adriatic coastline.  Poreč is quite old; the town center was originally a Roman site.  Poreč's centerpiece, featured prominently in the video, is the Euphrasian Basilica.  This landmark dates to the 6th century AD and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.  Significantly expanded in the 16th-19th centuries, the core of the complex is considered one of the finest surviving examples of early Byzantine architecture.   

Jonhy Kondakjian Photos created this beautiful drone video from a trip to some of the most well-known spots on Croatia's northern coastline, which includes footage from the following locations: Vrbnik (on the island of Krka); Rijeka (Croatia's #3 city, which lies at the head of Kvarner Bay); the Roman arena in Pula, in the southwestern part of the Istrian Peninsula;  Premantura, a village at the base of Cape Kemanjak, at the southern tip of Istria; and Rovinj, on the western side of Istria.

Check out this amazing first person view (FPV) video of a famous fortress in Croatia, compliments of contributor and FPV pilot Livyu FPV.  It's called St. Nicholas Fortress, and it's located in the town of Šibenik, which lies just north of Split on the Dalmatian Coast.  The fortress was built in the early 16th century by the Venetians who controlled the Dalmatian Coast at the time; it guards the entrance to the town's harbor.  Designed by a famous architect from Venice, St. Nicholas is a UNESCO World Heritage site.  

Check out this stunning drone video of the island of Korcula, Croatia, compliments of contributor Andrej Vistica.  The island lies off the country's Dalmatian Coast in the Adriatic Sea, just south of the island of Hvar.  Most of the footage was shot around the town of Korcula, which lies on a peninsula near the eastern tip of the island.  the island, which is the country's second-largest, has been occupied since the second millennium BC.  Long and narrow, it covers about 280 square km or around 110 square mi.  

In this drone video by Obendrohne, you'll get a bird's eye view of one of the top attractions of the Croatian city of Rovinj: its Church of St. Euphemia.  This Baroque masterpiece was completed in 1736 and is the most recognizable landmark in the town, a cultural gem on the western side of the Istria Peninsula in the northern part of the country.  Its bell tower is about 75 years older than the current church structure and was designed to resemble the even more famous St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. 

Check out this drone video of a beautiful seaside town in Croatia's Dalmatia region, compliments of contributor stanil.  It's called Skradin, and it's located near the mouth of the Krka River.  It's situated just to the east of Krka National Park, where a series of waterfalls on the river makes for some of the country's most beautiful natural scenery.  The town of Skradin was once a force to be reckoned with in the area, but over time it became overshadowed by Sibenik at the mouth of the river.  

Šibenik is one of the oldest and most important cities on Croatia's famed Dalmatian Coast.  It lies in the estuary of the Krka River, one of the country's most important waterways.  It was founded not by Greeks or Romans but by Croats, making it one of the country's most important cultural centers.  In this drone video, you'll get a captioned tour of this glorious city, including footage of the Fortress of St. Nicholas which sits on a tiny island, the Cathedral of St. James, the Banj city beach, and more.  

For a first upload to AirVuz, contributor Damjan Kolarek brings us this excellent aerial view of a large and partially drained artificial lake in northern Croatia.  It's called Lake Dubrava, and it's a reservoir on the Drava River.  It's one of four reservoir lakes on the river, which is a major Danube tributary that joins the larger river a bit further downstreat at the Croatian city of Osijek.  Normally a popular spot for fishing, the lake is in a nearly-drained state in the video due to rainfall shortages.  

Check out the lovely seaside town of Senj, Croatia, compliments of ImpactFPV.  Senj is situated towards the northern end of the Croatian coastline on the Adriatic Sea; it lies roughly opposite (east) of the southern tip of Istria.  Senj became important as a defensive northern position for the Roman territory of Dalmatia, and later became an important defensive position against the ongoing incursions by the Ottomans.  It's best known for the square-shaped Nehaj Fortress, built on a hill overlooking the city in the 16th century.  

In this drone video, you'll be taken over some of the most beautiful spots on the famed Dalmatian Coast of Croatia in Southeastern Europe.  The video includes footage from the following locations: (1) Krka National Park, which houses a series of waterfalls near the mouth of the Krka River; (2) the lovely port town of Tribunj, which is just up the coast from Sibenik; (3) Split, the largest city on the Dalmatian Coast; and (4) the magnificent Fortress of Klis, which is perched atop a hill overlooking Split.  

Contributor siemo created this beautiful drone video from a town in the Istria region of Croatia.  Istria is a peninsula shaped like a downward (southern) pointed arrow on Croatia's northern Adriatic Sea coastline.  The town featured in the video is called Buzet, which lies in the interior of Istria, near the northern border with neighboring Slovenia.  Buzet is situated just a short distance from the more well-known town of Motuvun, which is probably the most popular destination in the Istrian interior.  

One of the best-preserved ancient Roman ruins sites isn't in Rome at all or even in Italy.  It's the arena in the city of Pula, which lies at the southern tip of the Istrian Peninsula in northern Croatia.  Pula became an an important Roman outpost during the waning days of the Republic.  Construction of the arena began at the outset of the Empire and was completed in 68 AD. Considered one of the top attractions in this Southeast European country, you can check it out from above in this drone video by ImagesCairns.

Check out this beautiful aerial tour of a well-preserved town in northern Croatia, compliments of foggy701.  Varaždin is situated about 80 km (around 50 mi.) north of the Croatian capital city Zagreb, near the border with Slovenia.  It's one of the most important cities in the Northern Croatia historical region, which has a distinctive culture that reflects its proximity to both Slovenia and Hungary.  The video features footage of the city's Old Town, its Baroque style manors, and its distinctive-looking cemetery.  

Former Drone Video of the Week Winner PureCreations.pl brings us these marvelous aerial views of the famed Dalmatian Coast of Croatia.  The video opens with shots of the area around Brela on a stretch of the coastline known as the Makarska Riviera, due east of the island of Brač.  Just before the :30 mark, you'll see the brand new bridge over the Cetina River in Omiš.  At :35 you'll see Klis Fortress, in the hills above the city of Split, before heading back to Omiš to the mouth of the Cetina River at the :42 mark.  .  

A long pebble beach on the Adriatic island of Pag off the northern Croatian coast ((the country's fifth-largest island by land area but has the longest coastline), Zrće is a party-lover’s beach destination. It is one of the over 100 Blue Flag beaches in Croatia, and is a summer destination for partygoers because of the non-stop, all-hour clubs and beach bars that oftentimes feature famous hip-hop artists as well as house and EDM DJs.  See it from above in this drone video by ante de la creme. 

As seen here in this drone video by SKYDRONAUTS, Croatia's Nehaj Fortress is built on a hill overlooking the town of Senj.  Senj is a mid-sized city on the northern Croatian coast, just a few km/mi from the island of Krk.  The fortress was completed in the mid-16th century, primarily as a means of defending the regions from ongoing incursions by Ottoman forces.  In this regard it was successful; the city had been besieged three times prior to its construction but no attacks occurred afterward. 

To contributor XL Creations put together this excellent drone video featuring four of the top spots on the country's famed Dalmatian Coast.  The first stop is the fortified town of Ston near the Coast's southern end.  Then it's on to Dubrobnik, the well-preserved medieval jewel which has gained fame from its extensive appearances in HBO's Game of Thrones series.  From there, you'll head to Miljet, the southernmost of Croatia's islands.   After that, you'll stop at the town of Orasac near Dubrovnik before ending at the island of Korčula.

Take in these drone views of the historic city of Pula, Croatia, compliments of AirVuz contributor buzzbomb.  Pula is the largest city on the Istrian Peninsula, a roughly triangular shaped landform which points southwards into the Adriatic Sea from the northern part of the Croatian mainland.  Pula was an important city going back to the Antiquity.  Its most well-known landmark, which you'll see prominently featured in the video, is the Pula Arena, one of the best-preserved Roman ruins in all of Europe.  

AirVuz contributor RIK Fotos brings us this excellent drone video of the third-largest city in Croatia: Rijeka.  Rijeka is located on Kvarner Bay, an inlet of the Adriatic Sea bounded by the Istrian Peninsula to the west.  With a population of a bit over 100k, only Zagreb and Split are larger.  Due to its strategic location and deepwater port, Rijeka was heavily fought-over throughout the Middle Ages.  Prior to World War I, it was one of the two main ports of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, alongside Treiste.  

Check out these drone views of Croatia, compliments of brand-new AirVuz contributor and pilot Pilol1979.  Shot with a DJI Mavic Air 2 drone, the video was shot in various locations along the northern part of Croatia's Dalmatian coast on the Adriatic Sea.  The first featured spot is Starigrad Paklenica, a town which lies on a bay just east of the city of Zadar.  Other featured locations include Pag Island, the island of Ciovo (just west of  Split), the historic city of Šibenik (roughly halfway between Split and Zadar), and more.  

AirVuz contributor Marek brings us this spectacular drone video of the Old Town of Dubrovnik, Croatia.  One of the best-preserved medieval cities in Southeastern Europe, Dubrovnik is located near the southern end of Croatia's Dalmatian Coast on the Adriatic Sea.  The one-time capital of the Republic of Ragusa, Dubrovnik thrived during the Middle Ages, first under the Byzantine and later Venetian Empire control.  Dubrovnik's popularity exploded when it became one of the main filming locations for HBO's Game of Thrones TV series.  

Check out this drone video of one of the best-preserved cities in Croatia, compliments of contributor foggy701.  Varaždin is situated about 80 km (50 mi.) north of the Croatian capital city Zagreb, near the border with Slovenia.  Founded in the 12th century, the city offers a mix of medieval and baroque architecture.  It's Old Town is a fortress city which dates to the 14th century.  Its prominent examples of baroque architecture include its town hall and Cathedral, the latter dating to the mid-1600's.  

AirVuz contributor and pilot Bluedreamer500 used a Xiami Mi drone to create this stunning aerial tour of a beautiful spot on Croatia's famed Dalmatian Coast.  It was filmed around the village of Razanj.  The village lies near the western end of a promontory which extends out into the Adriatic Sea, roughly equidistant from Split (to the west) and Šibenik (to the north).  It's a far less densely populated (and traveled) section of the Dalmatian Coast, which has emerged in recent decades as one of the top Mediterranean Region destinations.

Check out these excellent drone views from Croatia's Istrian Peninsula, compliments of AirVuz contributor #OBENDROHNE.  The video was filmed around the Lim Fjord, which cuts into the western side of Istria, a landform which resembles an arrow pointing downward into the Adriatic Sea from the northwestern part of the country.  It's technically not a fjord but a Ria, formed not by a glacier but rather by the River Pazinčica.  It is situated roughly halfway between the northern "base" of Istria and the city of Pula at its southern tip.

AirVuz contributor Pikol1979 used a DJI Air 3 drone to create this outstanding video from the mountains of Croatia.  The video was filmed over Velebit, one of a series of sub-chains of the Dinaric Alps, which run down the western side of the Balkan Peninsula.  The Velebit run a course of about 90 mi. (about 150 km), with a roughly north-south orientation that parallels the Adriadic Sea to the west.  The highest peak of the chain reaches an altitude of about 5.75k ft. above sea level, or around 1.75k m.  

Check out this fantastic drone tour of the Croatian island of Šolta, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot bluedreamer.  The island lies just to the west of the larger and better-known island of Brač, a short distance southwest of the city of Split.  It's part of a group of islands known as the Dalmatian Archipelago.  Šolta covers an area of about 60 square km (around 25 square mi.).  It has a permanent population of about 1,700 residents, who are spread out across a number of towns on the northern coast and interior of the island.

New AirVuz contributor Beniツ brings us this fantastic drone video of a beautiful spot on Croatia's famed Dalmatian Coast.  It's the village of Petrčane, and it's located about a dozen km (around seven mi.) south of Zadar, the principal city of the Northern Dalmatia region.  The village sits on a bay of the northeastern Adriatic Sea which is formed by the Punta Radman and Punta Skala Peninsulas.  With a permanent population of about 600 inhabitants, the village is nearly a thousand years old.  

AirVuz contributor Mali Sokol brings us these lovely aerial views of a town on the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia in Southeastern Europe.  The town is called Igrane.  It's situated roughly halfway between Split (to the north) and Dubrovnik to the south; the former is the capital of Dalmatia and Croatia's second-largest city; the latter is the southernmost of the major Dalmatian Coast cities and towns.  Agrane lies just opposite some of the country's largest islands; in the video you will be able to see the island of Hvar in the distance.  

Take an aerial tour of Croatia in this fantastic drone video by brand-new AirVuz contributor nicomazz97.  Shot with a DJI Mavic Air 2, the video opens with shots of four spots on the Istrian Peninsula of northern Croatia: the town of Rovinj, the city of Pula, Kamenjak National Park, and the municipality of Medulin.  Then it's on to the island of Krk, the largest of the Adriatic Sea, where you'll see the village of Stara Baška, Virbno, and Šilo.  For a finale, you'll head back to Pula for an epic sunset shot.  

Contributor Jus Medic created this spectacular video of the world-class sailing scene off the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia, which is essentially the southern portion of the country's coastline along the Adriatic Sea.  The video provides a bird's eye view of what is considered to be some of the finest recreational sailing waters anywhere in the world, a place of turquoise blue waters, gentle breezes, and many ports and beaches.  It includes footage of the islands of Hvar, Solta, Brac, Salmatia, and more.  

With so much attention on Croatia's Dalmatian Coast, it's sometimes forgotten that this only represents a portion of the country's Adriatic Sea coastline (roughly its southern half).  In this excellent drone video by NGreyTravels, you'll get an aerial look at a port city called Rovinj, and it lies on the western coast of the Istria Peninsula, an arrow-shaped landform.  The town, which dates to the Antiquity and has been part of numerous empires over the centuries, is one of the country's most popular destinations.   

Contributor obendrohne created this beautiful drone video of one of the gems of the Istrian Peninsula in the Adriatic Sea: the Croatian fishing town of Rovinj.  It's located roughly in the middle of the western coastline of Istria, an arrow-shaped landmass which is the Adriatic's largest peninsula.  Rovinj was originally an island, but was connected to the mainland during Roman times.  It continued to be an important town during a later period when it represented one of the Venetian Empire's key outposts.  

Plitvice Lakes is a connected series of lakes and waterfalls in Croatia in Southeastern Europe.  It's formed by a series of rivers draining the mountainous area of neighboring Bosnia, which come together to form 16 lakes.  The waters eventually unite to form the Korana River, creating one of the most spectacular bits of scenery in Europe.  In this video, contributor Travel Lifestyle gives us an epic bird's eye view of this natural wonder, considered one of the world's greatest waterfall systems.

Ccontributor Szantolacka used a DJI Mavic Air to create this stunning drone tour of the great walled city of Dubrovnik, Croatia.  Located near the southern end of the Dalmatian Coast, the city was the capital of the Republic of Ragusa, a vassal state of the Byzantine and later the Venetian Empire.  Damaged during the Yugoslav Civil War in the 1990's, it's since emerged as one of the top tourist destinations in the Adriatic Sea region.  Famously, Dubrovnik "played the role" of King's Landing in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones.  

Enjoy these impressive aerial views of the Croatian island of Hvar, compliments of top AirVuz contributor photoexpert.eu.  The long, relatively narrow island of the Adriatic Sea stretches for about 42 mi. (around 68 km) off of Croatia's Dalmatian Coast, between the islands of Brač, Vis and Korčula.   With about 10k permanent residents (most of whom live in the island's namesake town near its western tip), Hvar is the fourth-most populous of the Croatian islands.  The video was filmed with a DJI Air 2S.  

Contributor Buzzbomb created this beautiful drone video of an important provincial city in the Balkan nation of Croatia.  Pula is the principal city of Istria County, which covers the northwestern corner of the country.  A very old port city, it lies at the southern tip of a peninsula which juts southwards into the Adriatic Sea.  At about the :18 mark in the video you'll get a bird's eye view of one of the city's most famous landmarks: the Pula Arena, a Roman amphitheater constructed in the first century AD. 

For a second upload to AirVuz, AirVuz contributor SeaBasss brings us this excellent travel video from the Southeast European country of Croatia. Shot largely with a first person view (FPV) drone, the video was filmed over a three day trip to this increasingly popular tourist destination.  Much of the footage is from the county's long Adriatic Sea coastline, with some additional shots from the Croatian interior.  This video was picked by the AirVuz editorial staff for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in July of 2022.    

Contributor Barrycocks skillfully blended drone and ground camera footage to create this beautiful video of Split, Croatia.  Situated on the country's Dalmatian Coast on the Adriatic Sea, Split is the country' second largest city after the capital, Zadar.  It is perhaps best known as the home of Diocletian's Palace, a landmark built for the Roman Emperor Diocletian in the 4th century AD.  About half of Split's Old Town is covered by the grounds of the palace, one of the largest such structures built in Europe during the Antiquity.

Former DVOW Finalist Ádám Katona // filmingdrones brings us this fantastic aerial video of a lake in the mountains of Croatia.  It's one of several around the village of Fužine, which is located in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, in the northwestern part of this Southeast European country.  The thickly forested mountains here are part of the Dinaric Alps, a chain of mountains which run down the western side of the Balkan Peninsula which reach altitudes of up to about 6k ft. above sea level (around 1.9k m) on Croatian territory.
