Brand-new AirVuz contributor expeditionsouth hit a "bullseye" with this spectacular drone video from Bolivia. He spent two months criss-crossing this landlocked South American country with a Kawasaki KLR 650 motorcycle and a DJI Mavic Pro drone. The DVOW winning video features footage from both the portion of the country covered by the Andes Mountains system as well as the northern portion, which is part of the Amazon River Basin. Check out the amazing aerials of the Uyuni Salt Flats, the "train cemetery", the Altiplano, and much more.

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor Mauricio Linares brings us this stunning drone video of the two most important cities in the South American country of Bolivia: La Paz and Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Santa Cruz).  La Paz is the national and cultural capital of Bolivia.  Surrounded by the Andes Mountains, it is the highest major city in the world, with an average elevation nearly 12k ft. above sea level (3.65k m).  Santa Cruz, Bolivia's largest city, is located the tropical lowlands, about 530 mi. (850 km) east of La Paz.

Simonology...

Contributor and pilot Simonology served up this epic drone video of a great South American plateau known as the Bolivian Antiplano.  Situated largely in Bolivia but also covering small parts of Chile and Peru, the Altiplano is a key component of the Andes Mountain system.  It is the second largest high plateau in the world after the Tibetan Plateau.  Filmed with a DJI Mavic Air 2 drone, the video features footage of Antiplano sites such as the Uyuni Salt Flats, the Isla Incahuasi outcrop, the Salvador Dalí Desert, and Sol de Mañana.

nevinxavie...

Top AirVuz contributor nevinxavier brings us this fantastic drone video of Bolivia's Salar de Uyuni, the world's largest salt flat.  The flats cover an area of about 10k square km (around 3.6k square mi.) of the Bolivian Antiplano (itself part of the Andes system) in the Potosi Department in the southwestern corner of the country.  In effect a giant mirror, the Salar de Uyuni was used as a filming location for the Star Wars film the Last Jedi (2017), the eighth installment in the series; the flats "played the role" of Planet Crait.

The mighty Amazon River is not exclusive to Brazil, and it actually originates in several countries of South America.  Contributor and drone pilot JTurner takes us on an aerial tour of the Amazon Basin in the northern part of the landlocked country of Bolivia.  Using his DJI Mavic Pro drone he gives us a bird's eye view of the area around Madidi National Park.  Covering parts of both the Andes region and (what you will see here) the Amazon Basin, the park is one of the most biodiverse areas on the planet.

The Atacama Desert runs along the western coast of South American, covering parts of Chile, Peru, and Bolivia.  The desert, the driest in the world, is part of the Andes Mountains system, whose mountain peaks more or less surround it.  The Atacama has a surface area of about 120,000 square km (54k square mi.), making it one of the world's 20 largest.  Using a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone, Aerial Nomads gives us a bird's eye view of the portion of the Atacama which lies in southwestern Bolivia.

Top contributor Jturner created this stunning drone video of a very different side of Bolivia, one far from the Andes Mountains and the salt flats that many associate with this South American country.  It was filmed near Rurrenabaque, a small town in the Beni River in the Department (state) of Beni, in the northern part of the country.  Here is lowland rainforest in the Amazon River Basin; much like its neighbor Peru, there is an "Andes Bolivia" and an "Amazon Bolivia" which offer vastly different landscapes.  This video was a DVOW nominee in June, 2019.

Bolivia's Palca Canyon is located near the capital city La Paz in the west central portion of this South American country.  The canyon is known in part for its stunning, multicolored rock formations.    Top contributor and pilot JTurner flew his DJI Mavic Pro drone around this expansive canyon, providing us with a spectacular aerial tour of a little seen area of this landlocked nation.  The canyon is located just a short distance east of Lake Titicaca, another top natural site in the Andes Mountains region.

la.drones...

The South American country of Bolivia may be the volcano capital of the world.  The landlocked country in the heart of the Andes Mountains region is home to literally dozens of them, many of them active and/or in excess of 5k meters (around 16.5k ft.) in peak elevation.  Driving from Bolivia to Chile, contributor la.drones passed through a stretch of the Bolivian desert named the Cementerio de los Volcanes because of the high number of these geological wonders that populate the impressive Andean landscape.

La Paz: Bolivia's Capital City

La Paz is the capital of Bolivia and the center of its largest metropolitan area.  Among other distinctions, it's known as the highest capital city in the world, with an elevation of  3.6k km above sea level (about 12k ft).  It's in a plateau-valley which is surrounded by some of the taller peaks in this part of the Andes Mountains system.   This drone video will give you a bird's eye view of La Paz, which was founded (like almost all South American capital cities) by Spanish conquistadoras in the 16th century.

Train Cemetery of Uyuni

la.drones...

Award-winning contributor and pilot LA.Drones created this amazing drone video of a train cemetery in southwestern Bolivia.  The city of Uyuni is the largest city in the region, which sits on the great Antiplano plateay and is also home to the Uyuni Salt Flats.  When the area's critical mining industry collapsed in the 1940's, the local railroads collapsed too.  Uyuni being the main rail junction, the trains ended up being abandoned just outside of the city, resulting in what you'll see in the video.

Did you know the world’s largest salt flat is in the Andes Mountain Range? The nearly 11k square-kilometer (6,8k square mi.) landscape is what's left of a prehistoric lake that went dry in what is now southwest Bolivia. That lake left behind brilliant, bright-white salt, rock formations, and cacti-studded islands. This drone video of Salar de Uyuni at sunset by vieuma is absolutely stunning; the orange, pink and yellow light reflecting on the ground is a perfect mirror to what is above.

LAGUNA COLORADA

Here is a short but impactful aerial look at Bolivia's Laguna Colorada, compliments of AirVuz contributor Victoraroundtheworld.  This is a large salt lake in the southwestern part of the country on the great Bolivian Plain (often called the Altiplano, which also covers parts of Peru, Chile, and Argentina).  Its name ("Red Lagoon") comes from the color of the water, which is red due to geological factors and interaction with algae.  The lake is also known for its flamingoes, which you can see in the video.

Salar de Uyuni: Bolivia's Salt Flats

victorinth...

Bolivia's Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat.  Victoraroundtheworld used his DJI Phantom 3 Advanced drone to take us on a tour of this amazing area which appears to be blanketed in white.  Located in the southwestern corner of the country, the flats are part of the Bolivian Altiplano, itself part of the Andes system.  Salar de Uyuni was used as a filming location for the Star Wars film the Last Jedi (2017), the eighth installment in the series; the flats "played the role" of Planet Crait.
