The storm, one of the most powerful Atlantic storms ever recorded, caused immense damage throughout the northern parts of the Bahamas. This moving video tribute reminds us all of the pristine beauty of this coral-based archipelago, prior to its storm devastation. This video was a DVOW finalist in September, 2019.  

Multiple Drone Video of the Week Winner semberadventure brings us this fantastic travel video from the Exhuma Islands in the Bahamas.  The Exhuma's (also known as the Exhuma Cays) consist of over 350 islands near the middle of the Bahamas Archipelago, many of them uninhabited.  The video, which was shot with a combination of drone, ground camera, and underwater footage, was mostly filmed around Staniel Cay.  Despite its modest size of only about a half square mi. (around 1.4 square km) is actually one of the larger Exhuma's.  

The roughly 700 islands of the Bahamas archipelago, which sit inside the Bermuda Triangle area of the South Atlantic, have always presented a navigational challenge to the many ships operating in the area.  Contributor and pilot semberadventure flew his drone over a Bahamas shipwreck, this of a molasses carrier which sank in the early 1900's.  The crystal-blue waters of the South Atlantic Ocean allow the aerial observer to clearly see the outline of the ship, making for an outstanding bird's eye perspective.

Contributor semberadventure, who was featured in an episode of Drone Dish and has been a Drone Video of the Week winner, created this epic video of his trip to the Bahamas.  He used a combination of drone footage, ground camera footage, and underwater footage to memorialize the highlights of his trip through this island paradise.  Treat yourself to epic views of boating through the islands, the lush greenery of the many islands, and the amazing sea life which lies just below the surface of the torquoise waters.  

Despite being spread over hundred of islands, the Bahamas is one of the most urbanized countries in the world.  About 70% of the population of roughly 400,000 lives in the capital city of Nassau, which is on the island of New Providence.  Contributor Visual Euphoria Studios used a DJI Phantom 4 drone to create this aerial mini-tour of Nassau, which was made famous in part from multiple appearances in the James Bond series, beginning with its fourth installment, Thunderball (1965), starring Sean Connery as 007.

The Exhuma Islands are a region of the South Atlantic island nation of the Bahamas.  Located east of Nassau, there are exactly 365 islands in the group - one for each day of the year (except for Leap Years, of course!).  Bisected by the Tropic of Cancer (south of which lies the official "Tropics"), the Exhuma islands are known for their pristine, white sand beaches and inviting crystal blue waters. Top contributor and drone pilot Enrico Pescantini gives us a taste of some of the most beautiful Exhumas in this short, 4K edit. 

Among the more popular day trips from the Bahamas capital Nassau is Pig Beach, which is located in the Exhuma archipelago of keys (cays).  It's a relatively short boat trip from New Providence Island (where Nassau is located).  Named for its principal full-time "residents", it's not known how the pigs arrived here; various stories abound but none has been proved or disproved.  In this video, you'll get an aerial tour of the famous (and stunningly beautiful) porcine island, courtesy of HarbourSafaris and their DJI drone.  

Contributor TraveLocation Films used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 to create this spectacular aerial video of Paradise Island in the Bahamas.  The island sits just off the shore of Nassau, the country's capital city on New Providence.  Once owned by entertainer Merv Griffin, it's now known as the home of the Atlantis resort.  Paradise Island has a long history of appearing in TV shows and movies.  Most famously, the island appeared in two James Bond films: Thunderball (1965, #4 in the series) and Casino Royale (2006, #23).  

Here's an awesome aerial view of a gorgeous spot in the northern Bahamas, compliments of contributor davidjramsey.  It is situated on the island of Elbow Cay, which is part of a grouping known as the Abaco Islands in this South Atlantic archipelago.  Elbow Cay lies just a few km/mi. east of Marsh Harbor on Great Abalco Island.  At the :20 mark, you'll get a view of the Elbow Cay Lighthouse; built in 1862, it's one of three manually-operated (kerosene) lighthouses left in the world as of 2019.  

Check out this drone video of Barbary Beach in the Bahamas, compliments of contributor peel_town.  The beach is located on the southern shore of Grand Bahama island, just east of Freeport.  This part of the Bahamas was developed relatively recently.  Greater Freeport owes its existence to an American financier named Wallace Groves; in the 1950's he was granted a large chunk of Grand Bahama to develop with casino properties.  Mission accomplished; Freeport is now the country's second largest city.

Check out the spectacularly blue waters and snow-white sands of the Bahamas in this drone video by top contributor and pilot semberadventure. The video was shot in the northern part of Eleuthera, one of the east-central islands in the archipelago.  The island is situated a bit to the east of Freeport. It's a long, thin island - 180 km (about 110 mi.) long and barely a km wide in parts.  The shots near the 10-second mark are particularly stunning, the blues and whites blended in a way only nature on a tropical island can be. 

A blue hole is a geological oddity caused by underwater sinkholes.  One of the most well known blue holes is Dean's Blue Hole in the South Atlantic island nation of the Bahamas.  It's located on Long Island, one of the easternmost of  the roughly 700 which make up the Bahamas.  The hole is just over 200 meters (around 660 ft.) deep, making it the second deepest blue hole in the world. It's cavern-shaped and is actually wider towards its bottom.   Check out Dean's in this amazing drone shot by top contributor Enrico Pescatini.  

This is a beautiful tribute to the islands of the Bahamas, flown and edited by pilot JerzDrone. He says this footage was taken before Hurricane Dorian, the most powerful tropical cyclone on record to strike the Bahamas hit the island on August 24th, 2019. The Catogry 5 Hurricane is regarded as the worst natural disaster in the country’s history with 56 direct fatalities and more indirect deaths. This video shows the incredible ocean views, palm trees, and beauty the island is typically known for.

Top contributor Brad Scott Visuals used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone to put together this magnificent aerial tour of the Bahamas, the 700 island archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean.  As you'll see in the video, the Hasselbad camera in the Mavic Pro 2 does a phenomenal job of capturing the amazing coloring of these islands, home to some of the most idyllic beach scenery to be found anywhere on earth.  The video features great footage of what the Bahamas are best known for - endless sand bars, inviting beaches, and lazy boating wakes.   

Top contributor Douglas Thron has gained international recognition for his use of drone photography and video to visually convey the tragedy of natural disasters.  In this video, his skills are put to use in the Bahamas, parts of which were devastated by Hurricane Dorian when one of history's most powerful storms ripped through the islands in August of 2019.  In this case, his drones served an additional purpose - they were used to find rescue dogs that were regularly becoming trapped in the wreckage.  

Paradise Island lies just off the northern coast of New Providence, the most populous island of the Bahamas.  It's connected by bridge to the city of Nassau, which covers the eastern half of NP and is the principal city in this South Atlantic island nation.  Paradise Island was once owned by an heir to the A&P supermarket chain, and later by a company controlled by entertainer Merv Griffin.  Seen here in this drone video by Octavio Velazquez Lozano, Paradise Island is now home to the sprawling Atlantis, one of the world's top beach resorts.

The core of the island nation of the Bahamas is its capital city Nassau, which lies on the island of New Providence.  Located roughly in the middle of the archipelago, the island is home to about 70% of the country's population of around 400k.  New Providence has a number of much smaller islands surrounding it, mostly off of its northern and northeastern shores; the largest and best-known of these is Paradise Island.  In this drone video by TraveLocation Films, you'll get a bird's eye view of New Providence as well as its small satellite islands.

Half Moon Cay is one of the roughly 700 islands which make up the South Atlantic sovereign nation of the Bahamas.  Half Moon Cay is part of the Eleuthera sub-groupings of islands, which lies to the east of Nassau.  Very unusually, Half Moon Cay (also known as Little San Salvador Island), is privately owned - by the Holland America.  The cruise giant purchased the island from the government in 1996 and uses it as a port of call.  Check out this stunning island from above in this drone video by 1979bairobi.

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) drone pilot bosstalkpro earned a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in July, 2023 with this fantastic FPV video from the Bahamas.  The video was shot at and around the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island, which is connected to the larger island of New Providence (the main island of the Bahamas) by two bridges and was widely considered one of the world's top beach resorts when it opened in 1998.  The resort features over a dozen lagoons, a championship golf course, and over 3,800 rooms.  

Of the 700 islands which make up the archipelago nation of the Bahamas, Long Island is frequently considered the most naturally beautiful.  The island lies about 265 km (around 165 mi.) southeast of Nassau, in its own district.  Long Island is about 130 km (about 80 mi.) long but extremely narrow - only 6 km (around 4 mi.) at its widest point.  Some historians believe that Long Island was the third island visited by Christopher Columbus in his first trip to the "New World", although this is not universally accepted.
