Northeastern Brazil by Drone

Check out this fantastic drone video from the coastline of Northeastern Brazil, compliments of top AirVuz contributor and pilot RG CAM.  The video was shot around the Trancoso district in the municipality of Puerto Seguro in the state of Bahia.  Once a small fishing village, like other spots on the Bahia coast this area has seen an influx of tourist traffic and resort/hotel construction in recent years.  This video was tapped as a Drone Video of the Week Finalist in June of 2020.

The Brazilian state of Bahia is the fourth largest of Brazil's 26 states and the largest in its Northeast region, a massive area which includes nine states.  The capital of Bahia is the great city of Salvador, the fourth largest city in Brazil after Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and the national capital Brasilia.  This drone reel by Bahian drone pilot Peu Ribeiro will give you some epic bird's eye views of the state, including the 16th century architecture of Salvador, rolling mountains in the interior, and some of the country's best beaches.

Peu Ribeiro used a DJI Inspire 2 drone to create this stunning video of the Old Town of Salvador, Brazil.  Salvador is the largest city in the state of Bahia and it's the fourth largest city in the country (after Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Brasilia) as well as the largest in the officially recognized Northeast Region.  The historic city was "discovered" by the Spaniards in 1500 but settled by the Portuguese beginning in the mid-16th century.  It is one of the oldest European settlements in the Western Hemisphere.  

Lençóis Maranhenses National Park is one of the natural treasures of Brazil. Seen in this drone video by AirVuz contributor Damiano862, it's located just east of São José Bay in Maranhão, one of the states which make up the giant Northeastern region.  Covering about  550 square mi (around 1.5k square km), the park is known for its rolling sand dunes and is an increasingly popular eco-tourism destination.  This video was picked by the AirVuz editorial staff as a Finalist for the Drone Video of the Week in June of 2024.   

Contributor Luis Jr created this phenomenal drone tour of Ceará, one of the most important states of Northeastern Brazil.  With its capital city Fortaleza (Brazil's fifth largest city), it's the eighth most populous of the country's 27 states (incuding the Brasilia Federal Territory) despite being one of the smallest in terms of land area.  With its beautiful beaches along a relatively long coastline, it's the most popular tourist destination amongst the nine states that comprise the country's official Northeast Region.  

Natal is one of the oldest and most important cities in Northeastern Brazil.  Capital of the state of Rio Grande del Norte, it's also the easternmost of any major city in the Western Hemisphere.  In this excellent piece by AirVuz contributor and pilot RG CAM, you'll get an aerial tour of the city, including the Newton Navarro Bridge at the mouth of the Potenji River; Pipa Beach, about an hour's drive south of the city center; Praia de Ponta Negra, the city's main beach district; and the nearby Morro do Careca sand dune.  

Here's a beautiful drone video of an island off the coast of Brazil, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot godronnerecife.  The Fernando de Noronha is located about 220 mi. (around 350 km) off the mainland coast of the northeastern state of Pernambuco.  The island is the largest of its namesake archipelago and the only one of the 21 which is inhabited.  Due to its importance as a feeding ground for sharks, tuna, marine mammals, and other species, it's designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.  

Contributor and drone pilot imoveisbrasilbahia created this beautiful video of one of the most well known beach areas in the region of Northeastern Brazil.  Praia do forte is about an hour's drive up the coast (northeast) from Salvador, the capital of the state of Bahia and its largest city.  Praia do forte is known for its mangrove swamps and excellent surfing beaches, but more than anything for its whalewatching opportunities.  All are on display from a bird's eye view in this amazing video.

Seven Cinematics created this epic drone video from a trip to the coast of Brazil's Bahia state during which they got engaged.  The video uses a combination of footage from a DJI Mavic Pro drone and ground camera footage to capture the tropical atmostphere of the beaches of Northeastern Brazil.  The video was filmed in a number of beach towns on the so called Cocoa Coast of northern Bahia: Morro de São Paulo, Itacaré, Praia da Tiririca, Praia do Resende, Praia da Ribeira, and Prainha.  

Contributor and pilot Luiz Jr created this aerial video of his hometown of Fortaleza, Brazil.  Fortaleza is the capital of the state of Ceará in the northeastern region.  Fortaleza is one of the wealthiest cities in northeastern Brazil, and its port one of the busiest in the country.  It's one of the oldest European settlements anywhere in the western Hemisphere, even though it wasn't colonized in earnest by the Portuguese for some time after it was "discovered" initially by the Spanish.

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor acaetano brings us this beautiful drone video of the Brazlian port city of Recife.  The state capiral of Pernambuco, Recife is the center of the country's fourth-largest metropolitan area after Sao Paulo, Rio, and Brasilia.  One of the oldest cities in Brazil, it was founded by the Portuguese in the 1530's.  The video includes footage of some of the city's most well-known spots, including its Crystal Tower statue, the Capibaribe River, Porto Digital, and the Twin Towers near Pina Beach.

Contributor Luiz Jr. created this beautiful aerial video of one of the most well known beaches in Northeastern Brazil.  Paracuru Beach is in the state of Ceará, one of the larger states in this massive region that includes nine of Brazil's 26 states.  The beach has become a favorite for residents of Fortaleza, which lies just a bit over an hour's drive to the northwest.  Fortaleza, the state capital Ceará, is one of the three largest cities of Northeastern Brazil along with Salvador and Recife.  

Talented AirVuz contributor LPHOTO TRILHAS E MONTANHAS earned a spot as a Finalist for the Drone Video the week with this stunning aerial video of Brazil's Lençóis Maranhenses National Park.  Located just east of São José Bay in the northeastern state of  Maranhão, the park is best known for its rolling sand dunes.  Covering about 550 square mi. (1.5k square km) including a stretch of Brazil's Atlantic Ocean coastline, the park is becoming an increasingly popular eco-tourism destination in this giant South American country.

Checkout this stunning dronelapse of the great Brazilian city of Salvador, compliments of contributor Peu Ribeiro.  Salvador is the capital of the state of Bahia and is the largest city in the Northeast region.  The video features footage from across the city, which is Brazil's fourth-largest and was the original capital of Brazil when it was the jewel of the great Portuguese Empire.  Watch it for some amazing bird's eye views of Salvador's legendary beaches, historic churches, and even the  Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova stadium.   

Contributor Peu Ribeiro created this beautiful drone video of the most famous church in the city of Salvador, capital of Brazil's state of Bahia.  The Colina Sagrada do Bonfirm, which dates to the 18th century, is situated on the Itapagipe Peninsula of Brazil's fourth largest city.   The church is the site of the Festa do Senhor do Bonfim, an annual festival held every festival and one of considerable importance to the population of this overwhelmingly Catholic city in Brazil's fourth most populous state. 

While Brazil's long Atlantic coastline does not have many large island of note, portions of it are dotted with tropical mangroves and lagoons.  These semi-protected waters are perfect for aquatic activities like kiteboarding.  Witness this beautiful drone video by Nuculeus.  It was shot in one of these lagoon area in the state of Piauí.  Located in northern Brazil, Piauí is a large state with a very short coastline.  It's one of the nine states which make up Brazil's official Northeast Region.

Brazil's Praia do Forte is one of the most popular beach areas in the state of Bahia, one of the states in Brazil's Northeast Region  This beach, located a bit north of the state capital Salvador, has everything for a beach destination: from epic waves for surfing, to whale watching, to snorkeling and beach town exploring. Contributor imoveisbrasilbahia created this beautiful drone video of Praia do Forte, recently named as one of the top beaches in South America in a survey by the Travel Channel.  

Check out this drone video of a beautiful spot in the interior of Northeastern Brazil.  The Xingo Canyons (Portuguese: Cânions do Xingó) are on the São Francisco River, the fourth longest waterway in the country and the longest that runs entirely on Brazilian territory.  The canyons are located in the state of Sergipe, one of the nine states which make up the official region of Northeast Brazil and the smallest of the country's states by land area.   The video was created by ARdrone.

Coqueirinhos is a beach in the Brazilian state of Paraiba.  Paraiba is one of the easternmost of the country's 27 states, and one of the nine which make up the official Northeastern Region.  While Paraiba is one of the most densely populated of the Brazilian states, particularly along its coastline, there are areas of the coast, such as Coqueirinhos, which are undeveloped and present some of Brazil's most pristine beach areas.  You can get a bird's eye view of this beautiful beach area in this drone video by contributor Esteban Clua.  

Contributor and pilot ARdrone created this drone video of a neighborhood of the city of Aracaju in Northeastern Brazil.  Aracaju is the capital of the state of Sergipe, one of the nine states which comprise the official Northeast Region of the country.  With a population of about 650,000 in 2018, Aracaju is amongst the 35 largest cities in this gigantic nation.  This rather small state is situated mostly on the Atlantic coast, just to the north of the much larger state of Bahia and to the south of Pernambuco.  

Fortaleza is one of the oldest settlements in Brazil; it was actually "discovered" by the Spaniards but was not recognized as a Spanish discovery under the 1494 treaty that effectively divided the non-European world between Spain and Portugal.  Today it is one of the most important cities in Northeastern Brazil.  Its modest-sized port is primarily used for the export of bulk commodities (including sugar cane).  In recent years, it's increasingly being used as a cruise ship port of call, as you'll see in this drone video by DCIMagens.

Here's a drone video of a very unusual rock formation in Brazil, a country known in part for some of the most amazing rocks in the world.  It's called Pedra Galinha Choca (Chicken Stone), for reasons which will be obvious when you see the video.  It's what known as an Inselberg, or isolated rock formation, and it's part of a group of similar formations in the Quixadá Monoliths Natural Monument.  The area is located near the town of  Quixadá in the interior of Ceará, one of the states of Northeastern Brazil.  

The Lighthouse of Itapuã (Farol de Itapuã) is one of the more well known landmarks of the Brazilian city of Salvador.  Its distinctive red and white stripe design graces the coastline near this city, the capital of the state Bahia and the largest in the country's Northeast region.  The Itapuã Lighthouse sits on a small promontory north of the city, on the approaches to the Bay of All Saints.  You can see this iconic landmark from a bird's eye perspective in this fantastic drone video by Peu Ribeiro.

Top AirVuz contributor and pilot Laurent Paris brings us this fantastic drone video from the beaches of Natal, Brazil.  One of Brazil's 20 largest cities, Natal is the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Norte in Brazil's Northeastern region.  The city's beaches, which lie in several districts extending many km/mi to the south of the city, are some of the most well-known in Brazil.  The video features footage of the Natal beach zones as well as the sand dunes which lie along portions of the coastline.  

Chapada National Park is one of the great natural treasures of Northeast Brazil.  It's situated in the interior of the state of Bahia, west and a bit north of the state capital of Salvador.  The park is known for its unusual rock formations and table-top shaped mountains; a walker's paradise, it's home to many km/mi of hiking trails.  Check out this place of surreal beauty in this drone video by contributor and drone pilot Peu Ribeiro.  The video was shot with a Zenmuse X5 camera mounted to a DJI Inspire 2 drone.  

Former Drone Video Award Finalist RG CAM brings us this excellent drone video from a beautiful beach in Brazil.  It's called Pajuçara Beach, and it's located in the city of Maceió, capital of the northeastern state of Alagoas, about halfway between the larger cities of Salvador and Natal.  The beach lies on a crescent-shaped bay just east of the city, which had an estimated population of a bit over a million as of 2021.  The beach has been built up with hotels in recent years and hosts an active recreational aquatic scene.

Boa Viagem is one of the most famous beaches of Brazil, a country known in part for its beaches.  It's located in the city of Recife, the capital of the northeastern state of Pernambuco and one of the country's ten largest.  Seen from above in this excellent drone video by new contributor godronnerecife, Boa Viagem stretches for about 5 mi. (8 km) a bit south of the city center, and the neighborhood which runs alongside it is Recife's entertainment and retail center.  It's known as Brazil's longest stretch of urbanized beach.  

For a first upload to AirVuz, brand-new contributor Thiagu_passos brings us this excellent drone video from a beach town in Northeastern Brazil.  Itacaré is located in the state of Bahia, about 45 mi (about 70 km) north of the town of Ilhéus and about twice that distance south of the state capital of Salvador.  It lies within the Cocoa Zone, the band of latitude in which the cocoa plant can be grown.  With the decline of cocoa production due to a variety of factors, the economy of the area is now driven by tourism.  

Brazil's long Atlantic Ocean coastline offers some of the finest aquatic recreation opportunities anywhere in the world.  In this drone video by Prime Filmes, you'll get an aerial view of the jet ski scene in the area around Morro de São Paulo in the country's Northeastern region.  The village lies on the Ilha de Tinharé, an island which is part of the state of Bahia.  The island is easily accessible from the city of Salvador, the state capital of Bahia, which lies a bit to the northeast.  

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor and drone pilot gustavoobarbosa brings us this beautiful aerial video from a beach on the coast of northern Brazil.  The area filmed is around the city of Maceió in Alagoas, one of the nine states in the country's official Northeast region.  One of Brazil's smallest states, Alagoas is sometimes called the Rhode Island of Brazil.  The video was shot with a DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone, bringing this stunning bit of coast to life in brilliant 4k.  

Contributor Luiz Jr. created this excellent video from the well-known Brazilian beach area of Canoa Quebrada.  Canoa Quebrada is situated on the eastern end of the coastline of Ceará, one of the nine states which make up the country's giant Northeastern region.  It's located about 165 km (around 100 mi.) from the state capital of Fortaleza, which is one of Brazil's largest cities.  The area is a magnet for all manner of outdoor recreational activities, ranging from kiteboarding to dune-buggy driving.  

New contributor Daniano862 brings us this impressive drone video of João Pessoa, Brazil, an important city in the northern part of the country.  João Pessoa is the capital of and the largest city in Paraíba, one of the nine state which make up the official Northeastern region of this giant South American country.  The city sits at the mouth of the Paraíba do Norte River on the Atlantic Ocean.  Founded in the late 1600's by the Portuguese, underwent a period of Dutch control during the middle of the following century.  

In this video by former DVOW Winner RG CAM, you'll get an aerial tour of a resort on the northeastern coast of Brazil.  The resort is located in Comandatuba Island (Ilha Comandatuba), a small town on the coast of Bahia, about 325 mi. (around 545 km) south of the state's (namesake) capital city.  The island is a strip of land between a series of narrow coastal waterways to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east.  RG CAM is one of the top professional aerial filming companies in all of Brazil.  

Former Drone Video of the Week Finalist godronnerecife brings us this excellent drone video of the historic Brazilian town of Olinda.  Olinda is situated on the coast of the northeastern state of Pernambuco, just north of Recife.  Founded in the 16th century, the city has a population of around 400k and is considered part of metropolitan Recife.  Like much of Northeastern Brazil, Olinda's history is closely tied to that of the sugar industry.  Its city center has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Former Drone Video of the week Finalist Peu Ribeiro brings us this inspiring drone video from Salvador, Brazil during the Covid-19 pandemic in the Spring of 2020.  Intended to bring a message of hope, the video shows one of the city's most well-known landmarks: the 18th century Church of Nosso Senhor do Bonfim.   Brazil reported its first confirmed novel coronavirus infection on February 25th, and by mid-April the country had reported over 30,000 cases and over 2,000 deaths.  

The Basilica da Penha is a major landmark of the Brazilian city of Recife.  Seen in this excellent drone video by AirVuz contributor and pilot godronnerecife, the church belongs to the religious order known as the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin.  The church was completed in 1882, having been constructed on the site of an earlier version which dated to the 17th century.  The basilica underwent a major restoration beginning in 2007, and was re-inaugurated in 2014.  Recife is the capital city of the norteastern state of Pernambucu.

Check out these beautiful aerial views from a famous beach area of Northeastern Brazil, compliments of contributor acaetano.  Paiva Beach is located on the Cabo de Santo Agostinho in the state of Pernambuco.  It's about 35 km (around 20 mi.) south of Recife, the state's capital and the center of Brazil's fourth-largest metropolitan area (you will see the Recife skyline in the distance at about the 1:15 mark).  Although sharks are not unknown to its waters, it's generally considered to be one of the top beaches in northern Brazil.  

Check out this drone video of one of Brazil's longest bridges, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot RG Drones.  It's called the Newton Navarro Bridge (Ponte Newton Navarro), and it spans the mouth of the Potenji River in Natal, the capital city of the northeastern state of Rio Grande del Norte.  Opened in 2007, the cable-stayed bridge has a total length of just under 1.8k meters or about 5.8k ft.  It's the second and newer of the city's two bridges; the Igapu Bridge is situated upstream.  

Check out this drone video of the waterfront of Fortaleza, Brazil, compliments of new AirVuz contributor and pilot godronnerecife.  Fortaleza is the capital of Ceará, one of the nine states of Brazil's Northeastern region.  With a population of about 2.7 million as of 2020 and the center of a metropolitan area of about 4 million, Fortaleza is Brazil's fifth-largest city, after Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, and Salvador.   With 15 mi. (around 25 km) of beaches, Fortaleza is one of Brazil's top tourist destinations.  

Check out this fantastic drone video of the historic center of Recife, Brazil, compliments of new AirVuz contributor and pilot godronnerecife.  Brazil's fourth-largest city is the capital of the northeastern state of Pernambuco.  It is situated at the confluence of the Beberibe and Capibaribe Rivers.  Founded by the Portuguese in the 1500's, Recife is closely tied to the production and trade of sugar, one of Brazil's main cash crops for centuries.  The video incudes footage of the Basilica and Convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo.  

In this excellent piece by former DVOW Winner RG Cam, you'll take a leisurely aerial exploration of the city of Natal, Brazil.  Capital of the northeastern state of Rio Grande do Norte, Natal is one of the two dozen largest cities in this giant South American country.  The closest Brazilian city to Europe and Asia, Natal has become an important tourist destination, famous for its sandy white beaches.  Most of the video was filmed over and around these beaches and it includes some fanstastic shots of paragliders flying over them.
