Drone Videos of Italy's Apulia Region

Apulia (Puglia) is one of the regions of Southern Italy, covering the southeastern part of the country.  Contributor and drone pilot JQBK used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 to create this marvelous mini-tour of the region, which was home to some of Italy's first settlements.  Highlights include the magnificent Cathedral of the Adriatic port town of Trani; the 13th century Castel del Monte, built on a hill in the interior commune of Andria; some great top-down shots of its famously rocky coastline; and more. 

Multiple Drone Video of the Week Finalist CG Films takes us on an aerial tour of Italy's Puglia region.  The video features footage from across this fascinating area, which covers the "heel" of peninsular Italy.  Some of the featured locations include the lighthouse of Punta Palascia on Capo d'Otranto; the town of Santa Maria di Leuca, on the Salento Peninsula; the resort town of Torre dell'orso; the 13th century Castel del Monte; the seaside town of Gallipoli; Otranto, Monopoli, Polignano, Ostuni, Grotta della Poesia, and Lake Alimini.

Top AirVuz contributor CG Films secured another Drone Video of the Week Finalist spot with this excellent video from the Apulia region of southeastern Italy.   The video opens with shots from Polignano a mare, a seaside town which is part of the Metropolitan City of Bari.  Then it's on to the beach of Torre dell'Orso, the sea stacks of Sant'Andrea, Punta Palascia, and Otranto.  The last stop is the famous "white city" of Ostuni, which is located a few mi/km inland from the Adriatic in the province of Brindisi.  

Take a tour of the region of Puglia in Southern Italy, compliments of contributor and drone pilot helioswings.  Puglia is the "heel" of Italy, with a long eastern coastline along the Adriatic Sea and a curved western one along the Gulf of Taranto.  It's a region of few cities (it's capital and largest city Bari has a population of just over 300,000) and the longest coastline of any of Italy's regions.  Ride along for this amazing tour of one of the country's least known but most stunningly beautiful regions.

The beauty of Italy's southwestern coast is on full display in this beautiful drone video by contributor Helioswings.  The video covers the coast of the Puglia region, which appears on a map as the "heel" of Italy.  Puglia has long stretches of stunning beaches along its Adriatic Sea and Ionian Sea coastlines, the former being its eastern coast and the latter its southwestern.  The beaches you'll see in the video are as beautiful as the better-known beaches of the Amalfi Coast in the western part of the "boot" of Italy.  

Check out this beautiful 2022 drone reel from Southern Italy, compliments of content creator and drone pilot Paolo Videomaker.  The footage was captured from around the province of Lecce, which lies on the Salento peninsula (aka the "heel" of the "boot" of Italy), in the Apulia region.  The reel features a mix of action, landscape, and "people" footage from across the province.  Lecce is home to some of the oldest settlements in Italy, and its coastline is home to some of the country's most well-known beaches.  

Top AirVuz contributor and pilot Lewieque brings us this fantastic drone video from two Italian seaside towns in the southeastern part of the country: Monopoli and Polignano a Mare.  Both are part of the Metropolitan City of Bari, one of the six provinces which make up the Apulia Region.  Monopoli lies about 40 km (around 25 mi.) southeast of the city of Bari and has a permanent population of around 50k; Polignano a Mare lies about 10 km closer to Bari; its population is around 20k. 

Matteo_Lifestyle used a drone to create this epic aerial tour of Italy's Apulia (Pùglia) region, one of its least well known.  The region occupies the southeast "corner" of the country, with a long coastline on the Adriatic Sea.  Picturing Italy as a boot, it extends from the "ankle" area southward and includes the entire "heel".  With the longest coastline of any of Italy's regions and few large cities, it's home to hundreds of small seaside villages, including some of the oldest settlements in Italy.  

The Italian town of Francavilla Fontana is one of the largest in Brindisi, one of the six provinces which make up the country's (southern) Apulia region. Located in the hills of the "heel" of Italy, the city is also called Imperiali, the noble family which ruled the area between the 16th-18th centuries.  Get a bird's eye view of Francavilla Fontana in this excellent drone video by Christian Candita, which includes some great shots of its 18th century Mother Church as well as its Palazzo Imperiali castle. 

Check out this fantastic drone video from the southwestern corner of Italy, compliments of marco.trastu.  The area filmed is called Salento, a small southern-pointed peninsula off of the main peninsula of Italy; viewed on a map, it's the "heel" of the "boot" shaped form of peninsular Italy.  Solento covers three provinces with the larger region known as Apulia.  Shot with a DJI Mavic Pro 2, the video features the following Salento locations: Porto Cesario, Torre Lapillo, Torre dell'orso, and Grotta della Poesia.

Gravina is a town in Italy's Puglia region, which forms the "heel" of mainland Italy.  It's one of the oldest settlements in Italy, having been inhabited since neolithic times.  Colonized by the ancient Greeks, it was on the route of the Via Appia.  You can see this ancient city from a bird's eye perspective in this excellent drone video by DomenicoDlogLoguerci.  The video includes extensive footage of the town's well-preserved bridge, appeared as a filming location for the 2021 installment of the James Bond movie series, No Time to Die. 

AirVuz contributor and pilot christian candita brings us this fantastic drone video of the Italian port town of Polignano a Mare.  The town is part of the Metropolitan City of Bari, one of the central provinces of the region of Apulia in the southeastern corner of Italy (ie, the "heel" of the country as it appears on a map.  Located just south of the province's namesake capital on the Aegean Sea, Polignano a Mare has undergone a transition in recent years as its economic base has shifted from fishing to tourism.  

Check out this stunning video from a small town called Alberobello in southeastern Italy, compliments of top AirVuz contributor Lewique.  He used a DJI Mavic drone and a ground camera to capture the essence of this 17th century town in the Metropolitan City of Bari in Italy's Apulia region.  The video features footage of the town's famous Trulli, or stone huts.   Traced to laws by which residents of the area were prohibited from using mortar to build residence, Alberobello's Trulli are part of a UNESCO World Heritage site.  

Apulia (Puglia) is one of the regions of Southern Italy; it covers the "heel" of the "boot" of the country and extends some ways north, covering the back of the "foot" itself.  In this drone video by contributor Mauro Sciambi, you will see some of the region's legendary beaches and rock formations.  The highlight is the footage of the Grotta della Poesia (Cave of Poetry), a natural sinkhole-cum-swimming pool near the town of Roca.  Experienced swimmers can exit to the sea from an underwater cave.

Check out this drone video of the Italian port town of Taranto, compliments of new AirVuz contributor AN-DRONE.  The ancient city lies on the Ionion Sea, in the "instep" of the "boot" of Italy.  Taranto was originally settled by Greek (specifically Spartan) colonists in the 8th century BC, and was one of the most important cities in the region now known as Apulia throughout the Antiquity; around 500 BC, it's believed to have been one of the world's largest cities.  It's now the third-largest city in southern Italy, after Naples and Bari.  

Contributor Christian Candita created this stunning drone video of the Italian "white city" of Ostuni.  It's located in Brindisi, one of the provinces of the "heel" of Italy in its Apulia region. Situated in the hills a few miles from the coast on the Adriatic Sea, Ostuni is one of the top holiday destinations in Apulia.  The focus of the video is the city's "old town", a walled citadel at the top of the hill, including its 15th century Romanesque Ostuni Cathedral, the Saint Orontius' Column, the Bishops Palace, and more.  

Contributor Sorveglianza Aerea Territoriale bring us this marvelous drone video of Gallipoli, a small seaside town on the "heel" of Italy.  Gallipoli (not to be confused with the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey) is a town in the Lecce province of Apulia, a region which covers the southeastern corner of the country.  The town is situated on the Ionian Sea, an extension of the Mediterranean  Gallipoli dates to the Antiquity, and in the 18th century its port became the most important in the world for the olive trade.  

Italy's Monopoli is a beautiful little town on the Adriatic Sea coastline in the region of Apulia, which covers the "heel" of the "boot" of peninsular Italy as well as the area to its north.  It's is located about 45 km (a bit under 30 mi.) down the coast (ie, to the southeast) from the city of Bari, the regional capital.  Settled as early as 500 BC, Monopoli assumed some strategic importance in Roman times and later when the area was under Venetian control.  Check it out from above in this excellent drone video by AN-DRONE.

Vito losito brings us these beautiful aerial views of a stunning spot along the coastline of Southern Italy.  It's a giant offshore rock called Lo scoglio dell eremita.  It's situated near the town of Polignano a Mare, in the Apulia region in the southeastern part of the country.  It's part of the Metropolitan City of Bari, a sort of quasi-province which covers the city of Bari and its surrounding communities.  The island is tied to a local legend from the Middle Ages in which a man of faith takes his life in a new direction after seeing the rock.

The Apulia region at the "heel" of Italy offers some of the most unique coastal scenery in Europe.   The unique geological conditions of the area have produced "sea stacks" and other highly distinctive-looking rock formations.  In this outstanding first person view (FPV) drone video by AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot Alessio Tricarico, you'll cruise along the Apulian coast near the town of Sant'Andrea, which lies on the northwestern-facing side of the heel along the Adriatic Sea.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list.  

Contributor matteo_lifestyle brings us these beautiful aerial views of coastal (Adriatic Sea) Apulia in Southern Italy.  The stretch of coastline covered runs from Vieste in the north down to Polignano a Mare in the south.  Vieste sits on a peninsula in Foggia, the northernmost of the five Apulian provinces.  Polignano a Mare lies just to the south of Bari, the main city of Apulia.  It's part of the Metropolitan City of Bari, an administrative division similar to a province used for urban areas. 

Oria is an important town in the province of Brindisi in the Apulia region of Southern Italy.  According to the great Greek historian Herodotus, the city was founded in the 13th century BC, although it was more or less completely destroyed in the 10th century AD.  In this drone video by new AirVuz contributor Christian Candita, you can take an aerial tour of this historical town.  The video features excellent footage of the town's most important landmark: its hilltop castle, much of which dates to the 13th century.

Located on Italy’s southern Adriatic coast in the region of Puglia, Polignano a Mare is known for its white-pebble beaches, beautiful, cliff-side, white homes, incredibly turquoise waters, and more. Part of the Metropolita City of Bari, the town is home to the Ponte dei Lapilli cove, the Museum of Contemporary Art Pino Pascali, and San Vito Abbey, a 16th-century Romanesque church and tower. In this outstanding first person view (FPV) drone video by CataFpv, you'll get a unique perspective of the town of Mola di Bari in southeastern Italy.  Mola di Bari is part of the Metropolitan City of Bari, one of the provinces of the region of Apulia, just above the "heel" of peninsular Italy.  It's a port city on the Adriatic Sea.  The video features excellent footage of the Piazza XX Settembre, the city's main public square, including the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene, a prominent church.  

Here's a nice aerial view of a commune at the very southern tip of the "heel" of Italy, compliments of AirVuz contributor AN-DRONE.  It's a commune called Santa Maria di Leuca, and it's located in a small bay in the province of Salento.  Located at an important point near the meeting point of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, the town is most famous for its lighthouse, which features prominently in the video.  First lit in 1866, the lighthouse has a tower height of 47 meters (just over 150 ft.) and focal height of roughly twice that.  

As a show of Italian solidarity given the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic which swept through the country in March, 2020, AirVuz contributor christian.candita brings us this inspiring nighttime drone video from the castle town of Oria.  Oria is situated in Brindisi, the next-to-southernmost of the five provinces which make up the Apulia region in the southwestern corner of the country.  It's best known for its hilltop castle, parts of which date to the Antiquity but most of which dates to the 13th century.

Here's a nice aerial view of a well-known lighthouse in the Apulia region of southeastern Italy, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot belogaev_art.  Standing 105 ft. tall (32 m), the Punta Torre Canne Lighthouse was erected in 1929 and is still operational.  It's located in the village of Torre Canne, roughly halfway between Bari and Brindisi, the two major cities of Apulia's Adriatic Sea coastline.  It's part of the municipality of Fasano, the second-most populous town in the province of Brindisi after the (namesake) capital.  

Giovinazzo is a small commune which is part of the Metropolitan City of Bari, a quasi-province which is home to the main city in the Apulia region of Southern Italy.  Giovanazzo was built on the site of an old fortress, northwest along the coast from the main city of Bari.  Giovinazzo's main sights include the church of Santa Maria Assunta, a Norman-era structure which was remodeled along Baroque lines in the 18th century.  Bari is the second-largest city in Southern Italy, after Naples.
