AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
AirVuz contributor and pilot christian candita brings us this fantastic drone video of the Italian port town of Polignano a Mare. The town is part of the Metropolitan City of Bari, one of the central provinces of the region of Apulia in the southeastern corner of Italy (ie, the "heel" of the country as it appears on a map. Located just south of the province's namesake capital on the Aegean Sea, Polignano a Mare has undergone a transition in recent years as its economic base has shifted from fishing to tourism.

After 4 months without uploading videos, today I take you to the beautiful Polignano a mare. Polignano a Mare is one of the most evocative and perhaps also well-known towns in the Bari area. It is located on a rocky spur that, jutting out over the Adriatic Sea, offers a wonderful and evocative view both to those who look towards the horizon , and to those who want to admire the city so romantically perched on this suggestive stretch of coast. As already mentioned, the town is characterized by a high coast characterized by jagged stretches, where we find several natural inlets - the so-called "blades" - typical of the Apulian landscape. Among these we remember the Lama Monachile, an inlet located right near the historic center of the city and so called because it was once inhabited by the monk seal. Another "lama" to remember is the Lama Santa Caterina, but we can still say that there are also numerous marine caves of lesser importance. Those who come to Polignano from the sea or have the opportunity to take a boat trip near the coast, will certainly have the opportunity to appreciate the unspoiled and completely natural beauty of these coasts, which offered a natural setting for the birth of this charming town. which, in the evening, almost looks like a nativity scene. As for the churches and monuments to visit, we remember the Chiesa Matrice, located right in the center (Piazza Vittorio Emanuele) and built in honor of Santa Maria Assunta. Inside it is possible to admire the works of the Renaissance sculptor Stefano da Putignano and the work of Bartolomeo Vivari the "Polyptych of the Madonna with Child and Saints", dating back to the fourteenth century. Another monument of interest is the Benedictine Abbey , located in the hamlet of San Vito and overlooking, like the rest of the city, right on the sea. Finally, if you are in the streets of Polignano a Mare and are a lover of modern art, do not miss a nice visit to the Pino Pascali Museum, located in a disused slaughterhouse dating back to the nineteenth century. It too overlooks the sea and allows you to combine a bit of culture with a mouthful of iodine.
