Cyprus has some incredible sights to see especially when seen from a drone.  AirVūz contributor Picture Element takes us on a flight with his DJI Mavic Air above the beaches that lead up to brilliantly blue waves of the Mediterranean Sea.  Throughout this reel there are some elements of surprise like a waterfall tucked away in a mossy forest and a rusty shipwreck out on the open sea water.  Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea (after Sicily and Sardinia) but has historically been much less well known.

Top AirVuz contributor dronesantana007 brings us this fantastic drone video from northern Cyprus.  The video opens with a shot of the Bellapais Abbey, a medieval monastery which overlooks the port town of Kyrenia.  After a trip into the mountains which cover much of the Cyprus interior, at about the 2:00 mark you'll see the ruins of ancient Salamis, on the island's eastern coast.  At the 3:30 mark, you'll see Kyrenia Castle, built in the 16th century by the Venetians, which sits at the eastern end of Kyrenia's original harbor.  

The Mediterranean island of Cyprus is home to dozens of ruins sites, testament to its importance to the ancient world.  In this drone video by Travel and Drones, you'll be treated to aerial views of a number of these ruins, including (by order of appearance) the Greek city-state of Salamis on its eastern coast, the city of Kourion on the southwestern coast, the Rock of Aphrodite (Petra tou Romiou) near Paphos, the medieval Paphos Castle fortress, and more.  The video was filmed with a DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone.

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor musabms brings us this excellent drone video of the port city of Kyrenia on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus.  Kyrenia lies on the island's northern coast, which is under de facto Turkish control.  The video features some fantastic footage of the city's old harbor, including its most well-recognized landmark: Kyrenia Castle, which lies on the harbor's eastern end and which took its present form during roughly the century (1489-1580) when the island was under Venetian control.

Get an aerial view of two of the most well-known shipwrecks of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot Travel and Drones.  The first wreck is the MV Demetrios II, a Honduran-flagged vessel carrying a load of timber which ran aground in 1998 near Paphos, at the western end of the island.   The second wreck, also near Paphos, is that of the EDRO III.  This Sierra Leone flagged ship ran aground with a load of plasterboard during a heavy storm in December, 2011.  

Nicosia is the largest city on the Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus as well as the country's capital.  Located in the middle of the country, the city has been inhabited for several millennia.  The newest highlight of Nicosia is the just-built Russian Church, a gold-domed architectural marvel which just opened in 2017.  Contributor and pilot Picture Element used a drone to create an amazing bird's eye look at the church as it was nearing completion.  It's the first Russian-style church to be built on the island.  

The Bellaplais Abbey is an 800 year old structure built in the northern part of the Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus.  The site itself dates back to the Antiquity, where it was used to hide from seafaring Arab pirates that once terrorized the region.  Contributor Iaian Jordan used a DJI drone to make this amazing bird's eye view of the Abbey, which sits on a hilltop overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in the distance.  They Abbey is situated in Kyrenia, on a portion of the island which is controlled by Turkey.    

Cape Kormakitis is a point on the northern part of Cyprus, in the Turkish-controlled part of the island.  It points directly at the Turkish city of Anatalyua, which lies to its northwest across a stretch of the Mediterranean Sea.  Iaian Jordan flew his drone out over the tip of the cape, giving us an amazing bird's eye view of the deep blue waters and the mountains of the interior of the island.  Provisionally divided between its Turkish-controlled northern half and the rest of the island, it's the third-largest island in the Mediterranean.  

Top contributor and drone piloy Raf_Neo was able to put together this awesome aerial look at a wind farm on the Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus, his home country.  Given the country's high dependence on imported energy sources, the government of Cyprus has been extremely keen to develop its substantial windpower potential.  Taken with a DJI Mavic Pro drone, the video does a great job of showing a modern wind farm in operation, and also provides some nice views of the Cyprus countryside.

AirVuz contributor and pilot Picture Element brings us this fantastic drone video from the mountains of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus.  The video was shot over the Madari range, also known as the Troodos Mountains.  These mountains cover most of the western side of Cyprus, reaching altitudes of up to about 1.95k meters above sea level (around 6.4k ft.).  The mountains were the source of much of Cyprus's once-famous mineral resources during the Antiquity; today they are home to many tourist attractions including numerous ski resorts.

Some of the most beautiful scenery on the Eastern Mediteranean island nation of Cyprus lies in its northwestern corner, on the Akamas Peninsula.  Pavel Suchkov created an amazing aerial tour of the area, which includes the village of Latchi, the Baths of Aphrodite, and the Blue Lagoon.  The last is a spectacular beach area where boats and yachts can dock in shaded areas.  Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, and it is home to some of the oldest human settlements in Europe.  

Limassol is the second-largest city in the Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus (after Nicosia), and the largest in its southern region.  The skyline of Limassol has been transformed by the construction of the distinctive looking Limassol Oval, which opened in 2017 and became the tallest office building in Cyprus.  AirVuz contributor and pilot Picture Element was able to fly a drone around and over the Oval, treating us to an outstanding bird's eye view of this amazing piece of modern architecture. 

Here is a great drone video of a famous beach on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus.  Nissi Beach is one of the most popular spots in Ayia Napa, a beach holiday development area on a peninsula in the southeastern corner of the island.  The beach runs for about a third of a mile (around 500 m) and is well-known for its crystal blue waters.  It takes its name from a small island which lies a short distance offshore.  Nissi is a Blue Flag beach, meaning it meets the sustainability requirements of the Foundation for Environmental Education.

For a first upload to AirVuz, brand-new contributor cpphoto brings us this fantastic drone tour of the storied resort town of Ayia Napa on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus.  Ayia Napa lies on the island's southern coast, near its eastern end and just a bit south of the line which divides the Republic of Cyprus from the Republic of Northern Cyprus, the latter being under de facto Turkish control.  With numerous resorts and a giant new marina, Ayia Napa has become the epicenter of the growing tourism industry on the island.  

Get a bird's eye view of a very famous rock in this drone video by contributor and drone pilot Markos_026.  It's called Aprodite's Rock, and it's off the coast of Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean.  Sometimes also called "Rock of the Roman", it's off the coast of Paphos, at the western end of the island.  It's closely connected to Greek mythology, as the reputed home of the great goddess of the same name.  Technically a sea stack, the natural landmark is considered to be one of the world's most recognized rock formations.  

White sand beaches, crystal clear waters, dozens of pools, stunning sunsets - what more could you ask for?  In this drone video, Jan Majer Cyprus Photography shows us southeastern side of the Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus. Protaras is a resort town known for its beaches and Fig Tree Bay. Ayia Napa is also a resort town known for its beaches, as well as its historic Ayia Napa Monastery which is now surrounded by bars and nightlife.  Cyprus is the third largest island in the sea by land area.

If you think shipwrecks are a thing of the distant past, check out this amazing aerial view of a very recent shipwreck in Cyprus, courtesy of contributor and drone pilot Arsen Poshotian.  In December, 2011, the 80 meter (around 265 ft.) Sierra Leone-flagged ship Edro III was headed from Limassol on Cyprus to the Greek island of Rhodes (Rodos).  It hit a storm and ran aground near the port of Pegeia on the far western end of the island, with all crew members rescued.    The ship is off-limits to divers.  

Check out this beautiful aerial video of a beach in the far southeastern corner of Cyprus, compliments of contributor and drone pilot JAN MAJER CYPRUS PHOTOGRAPHY.  Konnos Beach lies near the tip of Cape Greco, a peninsula which extends from the southeastern region of this Mediterranean island nation.  The beach lies just to the north of the Cape Greco Forest National Park, which covers much of the peninsula.  It's just a short distance to the east of Aiya Napa, the country's largest resort town.

Contributor Nour Dupir created this amazing drone video of an important ancient ruins site on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus.  Amathus was an Iron Age city on the southern shore of the island, dating to about 1100 BC.  The city was founded by Cinyras, an ancient king of Cyprus who is much mentioned in many stories of Greek mythology.  Its sanctuary to the Goddess Aphrodite (whose home was Cyprus) was the second most important on the island after Paphos.  Amathus continued to be an important city throughout Roman times. 

Check out this amazing drone video of a tiny uninhabited island off the coast of Cyprus in the Mediterranean Sea, compliments of content creator and pilot Markos_026.  Yeronisos is situated just off the western coast of the Cyprus, the third largest island in the Mediterranean.  Uninhabited for centuries, the island was recently excavated and was found to be the site of an ancient temple dedicated to the Greek God Apollo.  That discovery halted all attempts to further develop the island.  

Check out this fantastic drone video of the city of Famagusta on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, compliments of AirVuz contributor musabms.  Famagusta is a port city on the eastern side of the island, in the Turkish-controlled northern region.  With the deepest harbor on the island, the city became its most important port during the Middle Ages, when Cyprus came under the control of the Genoese and later Venetian Empires.  Famagusta was the site of a brutal siege in 1570-1, following which the island came under Ottoman control.   

Foradun created this beautiful 4k drone video of the island nation of Cyprus, in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.  The video covers two locations.  The first is Limassol, the country's second largest city after Nicosia, which is located in the middle of the southern coastline.  The second location is Aya Napa, located on a peninsula in the southeastern corner of the island.  It's known as the biggest beach destination in the country and it's becoming one of the better-known beach towns in the eastern Mediterranean.

Here's an awesome aerial look at a famous monastery on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, compliments of contributor and drone pilot Lego.  It's called the Kykkos Monastery, and it's situated near the village of Pedoulas in the Nicosia District, which covers much of the central part of the island. The monastery is built in the Troodos Mountains, a range which covers much of western Cyprus.  The original monastery dates to the 11th century and is tied to a local legend involving the Byzantine Emperor.  

Check out this beautiful drone video of one of the most well-known lighthouses on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, compliments of contributor and pilot Lego.  It's located on a small peninsula on the western part of the island, near the harbor town of the same name.   The lighthouse was built in the late 1800's when Cyprus was under British rule and was considered strategically important relative to routes to and from the Suez Canal.  You'll also see some shots of the adjacent Odeon amphitheater.   

The Akamas Peninsula is an appendage in the northwestern corner of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus.  The region earned repeated references in Greek mythology, notably as the place where the goddess Aphrodite met her lover, Adonis.  Home to a wide array of rare flora and fauna ranging from fruit bats to monk seals, much of the peninsula is protected under Cypriot environmental laws.  In this drone video by contributor Travel and Drones, you'll get an aerial tour of Akamas, which is named after a son of the Theseus of Trojan War fame.

Check out this awesome drone video of a famous shipwreck off the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, compliments of contributor and pilot Lego.  It's the MV Demetrios II, and it's situated near the Paphos Lighthouse on the western end of the island.  The vessel, which was registered in Honduras, ran aground in March, 1998 while carrying a load of timber to Greece.  The entire crew was rescued without injury.  A post-wreck inquiry determined that the papers of some of the crew members were not authentic.  

AirVuz contributor Nour Dupir returns to AirVuz after a three year hiatus with this excellent drone video from the coast of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus.  The video was filmed over the Paphos District, the westernmost of the six which make up the country.  The coastline here is largely rocky, and presents considerable navigational challenges to the busy shipping lanes of the eastern Mediterranean Sea.  Cyprus is the third-largest island in the Mediterranean after Italy's Sicily and Sardinia.  

Check out this excellent drone video of the well-known abandoned village of Foinikas on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, compliments of AirVuz contributor Travel and Drones.  Located on the southwestern part of the island, it's believed to have been founded by the Knights Templar in the 12th century.  It was subsequently occupied by Turkish Cypriots for centuries, many of whom were displaced following the Turkish invasion of the island in 1974.  Its final came from a dam project which put much of the town's land underwater.  

Take an aerial tour of northern Cyprus in this excellent drone video by nikybwd.  The video features footage of the following locations in the region, which has been under de facto Turkish control since the 1970's: the harbor town of Famagusta on the island's eastern coastline; Golden Beach, on the long northeastern peninsula known as Karpas Peninsula; Kyrenia (Girne), a city on the island's northern coast; the ancient city of  Salamis, near Famagusta; and the northern part of Nicosia, the divided capital city.  

Check out this drone video from northern Cyprus, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot Travel and Drones.  Most of the video was shot around the Saint Hilarion Castle, which lies in the Kyrenia Mountains that run roughly parallel to the northern coast.  The Byzantine era hilltop fortification dates to the 11th century.  The video also features footage of the old harbour and castle of Kyrenia, which lies more or less due north from Nicosia.  You'll also see the Bellapais Abbey, which is situated a few km/mi. from Kyrenia.  

Take in these beautiful drone views of a well-known beach town on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, compliments of contributor Jan Majer Cyprus Photography.  Protaras is one of the top beach destinations in the northern part of Cyprus, which has been under de facto Turkish control since Turkey invaded the island in 1974.  Home to one of the island's finest natural harbors, Protaras is built on the ruins of the city state of Leukolla.  Its main beach on Fig Tree Bay was picked as the #3 beach in Europe by TripAdvisor in 2011.  

One of the most distinctive geographic features of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus is the Karpas Peninsula, which appears on a map as a giant finger extending from the northeastern part of the island.  In this drone video by musabms, you'll get an aerial tour of the region, starting with a shot of the Cape Apostolos Andreas at the very tip of the peninsula.  The peninsula is part of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which has been under the de facto control of Turkey since the 1970's.  

Check out this video from the western tip of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot cpphoto.  The town of Peyia (Pegeia) is located in the Pahos District, which covers the western part of the island.  It's located roughly halfway between the tip of the Akamas Peninsula to the north and the city of Paphos to the south.   Edited using a combination of drone and ground camera footage, the video captures the beauty of the western Cyprus coast and local landmarks such as the wreck of the ship Edro III.

Take in these magnificent wintertime views of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, compliments of AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Picture Element.  Most of the footage was captured in the Troodos Mountains, a range which cover much of the western side of the island.  The mountains here reach a maximum elevation of just under 2k meters above sea level, or around 6.5k ft.  That's high enough to become snow-covered in the winter even as the areas along the coast remain well above freezing year-round.  

The Mediterranean island of Cyprus is synonymous with copper.  Literally.  The Greek name for the island is "Kupros".   Copper mining on the island dates to thousands of years BC.  With its best mineral resources having been extracted, mining is no longer a significant part of the economy of Cyprus.  That being said, the heritage is still visible.  In this video, contributor Picture Element used a drone to film a copper mine "lake" (distinguishable by its colorful appearance) near the Cypriot capital city Nicosia.

Ayia Napa is a small resort town on a peninsula on the eastern end of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus.  In recent years, the town is heavily promoted by the Cypriot government, which has plans to make it the most popular resort area in the Mediterranean over the next two decades.  An ambitious goal but not impossible given what the island has to offer.  Contributor and drone pilot Valentinos Loucaides created this amazing video of the town, which is the site of a monastery built in the 12th century.  

Check out this beautiful drone video of an important harbor city on the Mediteranean island of Cyprus, compliments of contributor Lego.  Kyrenia is located towards the western end of the island's northern coast.  It's part of Northern Cyprus, which is a de facto independent country recognized only by Turkey.  Kyrenia is one of the oldest and well known towns in this part of the island.  The city is believed to date to the Trojan War, while its landmark castle - featured prominently in the video - dates to the first century AD.
