Crete is the largest island of Greece and (together with its outlying islands) it forms an official region within the country. It's the fifth largest Mediterranean Island and the largest in the eastern half of the sea. Crete was the center of the Bronze Age Minoan civilization which is considered the first to have taken hold in Europe. With a population of about 600,000, it maintains a distinctive culture which reflects the strong influence of various Greek and other European cultures which have ruled the island over the centuries. In terms of physical landscape, the long, narrow island features a number of lakes and gorges in addition to beautiful beaches along its coastlines. It also is home to a number of important fortresses, testament to its strategic position in this historically rich region. Here is a collection of the best drone videos from this ancient island.
