Croatia has quickly become one of the top tourist destinations in Europe.  Formerly a part of Yugoslavia, it has been a hot spot for vacationers, in no small part due to the popular HBO show “Game of Thrones” which has prominently featured a number of Croatian locations. Check out this fantastic drone video of the great city of Zadar, Croatia, compliments of AirVuz contributor Beniツ.  The oldest continuously-inhabited city in this Southeast European country, it's also the second-largest city on Croatia's Damlatian Coast after Split.  Zadar is part of the Ravni Kotari historical region, which covers the northern part of Dalmatia.  An important outpost of the Roman Empire, Zadar went on to become a key stronghold of the Venetian Empire, particularly after much of its hinterland came under Ottoman control.

Check out this fantastic DVOW nominated video of Croatia's Murter Island, compliments of former Drone Video of the Week winner Pushkinflyteam.  Sometimes called the Pearl of the Adriatic, the island is part of a group of islands called the Šibenik Archipelago.  Covering about 19 square km (around 8 square mi.), the island is connected the Dalmatian Coast mainland by a canal near Tisno, which is spanned by a small draw-bridge.  The video features excellent footage of the island's main (namesake) town, located near its northern end.

Contributor Nathan Jermy used a DJI Mavic Air drone to aerially film the famed Walls of Ston, in the Southeast European nation of Croatia.  The walls were built in the 14th century to protect the town of Ston, one of the most important in the Republic of Ragussa whose capital was in nearby Dubrovnik.  In terms of footage, it's considered the longest fortification system in Europe.   The Walls of Ston were used as a backdrop for scenes around King's Landing in HBO's Game of Thrones, much of which was filmed on the Dalmatian Coast.

Top contributor Justin Poore created this amazing video of the Croatia's Klis Fortress, one of the most famous fortifications in Europe.  Perched on a hill overlooking the city of Split on the Dalmatian Coast, the site dates to Roman times.  The structure was later converted into a castle which was the home of the Kings of the Croatian Kingdom, which ruled over the region from roughly 900-1100AD.  Much later, the fortress appeaed as the City of Meereen in Slaver's Bay in Season 4 of HBO's Game of Thrones.

Trakošćan Castle is one of the most famous castles in Croatia.  It's located in the far north of the country in Varaždin County, near the Slovenian border.  It was built in the 13th century, according to some sources on a site of an earlier fortress.  It fell into disuse for many years, until the 19th century when it was "rediscovered" and renovated in the Romanticist style which was popular at the time.  Nationalized after World War II, the castle is a popular tourist attraction and the site of a museum.

Contributor Rajnairichard created this beautiful wintertime drone video of Papuk, an important mountain in eastern Croatia.  It is the highest mountain in the historical region of Slavonia, an area which roughly corresponds to five counties in the eastern part of modern-day Croatia.  With a peak elevation of just over 950 meters (around 3.1k ft.), Papuk is one of the defining boundaries of the Pannonian Plain, the principal geographic feature of Slavonia and the breadbasket of Croatia.

Check out this spectacular drone video of an island off the coast of northern Croatia.  Contributor James Oshoba used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to give us a bird's eye view of Rab Island, which sits off the mainland coastline near the port of Stinica.  The island is about 22 km (14 mi.) long and has a permanent population of just under 10,000 inhabitants.  It's northern end is rocky, while the southern part of the island is covered by one of the last oak forests in the entire Mediterranean region.

Top contributor Minglam created this beautiful drone video of a very famous church in the Southeast European country Croatia.  It's called the Cathedral of St. Dominus, and it's in the city of Split, the country's second-largest city as well as its principal port.  The church dates to the 4th century AD, near the very dawn of Christianity (it was consecrated in the 7th century).  It's considered the oldest church in the world that remains in use and hasn't undergone any fundamental structural change.

As seen here in this drone video by SKYDRONAUTS, Croatia's Nehaj Fortress is built on a hill overlooking the town of Senj.  Senj is a mid-sized city on the northern Croatian coast, just a few km/mi from the island of Krk.  The fortress was completed in the mid-16th century, primarily as a means of defending the regions from ongoing incursions by Ottoman forces.  In this regard it was successful; the city had been besieged three times prior to its construction but no attacks occurred afterward.

AirVuz contributor Pikol1979 used a DJI Air 3 drone to create this outstanding video from the mountains of Croatia.  The video was filmed over Velebit, one of a series of sub-chains of the Dinaric Alps, which run down the western side of the Balkan Peninsula.  The Velebit run a course of about 90 mi. (about 150 km), with a roughly north-south orientation that parallels the Adriadic Sea to the west.  The highest peak of the chain reaches an altitude of about 5.75k ft. above sea level, or around 1.75k m.

Contributor Barrycocks skillfully blended drone and ground camera footage to create this beautiful video of Split, Croatia.  Situated on the country's Dalmatian Coast on the Adriatic Sea, Split is the country' second largest city after the capital, Zadar.  It is perhaps best known as the home of Diocletian's Palace, a landmark built for the Roman Emperor Diocletian in the 4th century AD.  About half of Split's Old Town is covered by the grounds of the palace, one of the largest such structures built in Europe during the Antiquity.

Former DVOW Finalist Ádám Katona // filmingdrones brings us this fantastic aerial video of a lake in the mountains of Croatia.  It's one of several around the village of Fužine, which is located in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, in the northwestern part of this Southeast European country.  The thickly forested mountains here are part of the Dinaric Alps, a chain of mountains which run down the western side of the Balkan Peninsula which reach altitudes of up to about 6k ft. above sea level (around 1.9k m) on Croatian territory.
