Bird's Eye Views of the Maldives

With over 1,000 islands spread over a wide stretch of the Indian Ocean, the Maldives has emerged as one of the world's up-and-coming luxury beach destinations.  In this first person view (FPV) drone video by top contributor Lucaputzer, you'll get a view of this tropical paradise from the exciting perspective of a racing drone.  The video features amazing shots of some of the luxury resorts which have sprung up throughout the archipelago, many of which occupy an entire island.  This was a Drone Video of the Week Finalist in October, 2024.  

Former Drone Video of the Week Winner dronesantana007 brings us this magnificent aerial video from the Maldives, an island nation in the Indian Ocean.  The video was filmed over Maafushi, which is part of the Kaafu Atoll group of over 100 islands, nine of which are inhabited.  Located about 16 mi. (around 25 km) south of the Maldives capital city of Malé, Maafushi covers just a few dozen acres and is home to about 3k permanent residents.  Heavily damaged in the 2004 Tsunami, the island has emerged as a popular vacation destination.

She’s taken her DJI Mavic 2 Pro out of the Maldives to take in the crystal clear waters that surround the island. If you’ve never seen a Manta ray from above, you need to check this out. The large fish has horn-shaped fins, forward-facing mouths, and long tails. The families of dolphins are also incredible to see from above.

Content creator and drone pilot Sandrine Hecq is one of the top travel vloggers; and she has created a huge following for her videos which mix drone and ground camera footage of exotic spots.  In this video, she takes us high above the Cinnamon Hakuraa Huraa Resort in the Maldives in the Indian Ocean.  Long piers are lined with romantic huts that hover over the crystalline sea, where visitors relax and enjoy the tropical views including dolphins. This remote island paradise is quite the sight from above.

Check out this drone video of a private island resort in the Maldives, compliments of AirVuz contributor Salih Akbai.  He filmed the island of Meeru in the Malé Atoll, the most prominent concentration of islands in this far-flung Indian Ocean archipelago nation.  Meeru is a long, narrow island - roughly 1.2k meters long (about three-quarters of a mile) by about 350 meters wide (around a quarter-mile).  Like a number of the islands which make up the Maldives, it's essentially owned by a single resort.  

The Maldives has become a popular beach destination not only because of its legendary sandy beaches and torquoise waters, but also because of the accommodations available there.  The country's tourism business has fed on a series of luxury resorts which have been built across its atolls, over two dozen groupings totalling hundreds of islands.  In this video, top contributor and drone pilot Veerdonkvisuals takes us on an aerial tour of, the Angsana Velavaru, a luxury resort on the Velavaru Reef.

The Indian Ocean island nation of the Maldives is known for its thousands of tiny islands, some of which have been converted to private resorts.  What better way to see this emerging form of high-luxury travel than with a first person view (FPV) drone?  Top AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot MANUEL BASSIL | MANUX | MR FPV shows the way with this stunning piece, which was filmed at the Jumeirah Maldives Olhahali Island resort.  The island is reachable by ferry or seaplane from the nearby main island of Malé.  

The Maldives, a group of islands spread out over the Indian Ocean, are known as a top tropical beach destination.  What is perhaps less known is that a number of the outer islands also offer some world class surfing, on a par with Australia, Bali, or South Africa.  Top contributor Drone Heroes, who has a large Instagram following and makes travel videos incorporating drone footage from exotic locations around the world, used a drone to capture the epic Maldives surfing scene from an aerial perspective. 

Husband and Wife Team Besos - aka the Flip Flop Squad - has traveled throughout Asia and Australia creating their trademark videos which incorporate epic drone footage and multiple "dronie" shots.  In this piece, they send their regards from the Indian Ocean paradise known as the Maldives.   Their destination here was the island of Meeru, which is part of the country's North Malé Atoll.  Using their trademark mix of drone and ground camera footage, they show us once again that these people known how to have FUN.

One of the reasons why the Maldives have become so popular as a beach destination is the availability of seaside villas.  Some of these tiny islands are now essentially private resorts, where travelers can relax in an environment that comes very close to being the ideal tropical paradise.  Top contributor Fabio Knoll created this spectacular drone video of one of these resort-islands, the Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas.  It's on Kihavah island, one of the 26 which make up this tiny nation. 

This drone video by contributor Timnevellphotography will give you a bird's eye view of an example of the type of private island resort which have made the Maldives one of the go-to destinations for travelers with ample resources.  The Ihuru Island Resort is one of the islands of this highly dispersed archipelago nation in the Indian Ocean.  As the name suggests it's its own island.   Whether it's a few days or a few weeks, travelers to this resort can enjoy their stay in the tropics in splendid isolation.

Top AirVuz contributor Elb Cut Media brings us this marvelous drone video from the Maldives, an archipelago nation spread out over a giant expanse of the Indian Ocean.  The island filmed is called Nalaguraidhoo.  It's part of the Raa Atoll, one of about two dozen which make up the country.  The island is roughly 1.6 km long (around a mile) and about 300 meters wide at its widest point (around 1.4k ft.).  Like many of the Maldives, Nalaguraidhoo is privately owned by a single resort, making for a highly secluded feel.  

Ride along with contributor and pilot Oliver Leyba, who combined drone, ground camera, and underwater footage to create this memorable video of a boat trip through the Indian Ocean islands of the Maldives.  With hundreds of islands spread out over two dozen atolls covering a vast expanse of the Indian Ocean, the Maldives is a paradise for boating.  "Cruise-boats" like the Carpe Diem can transport 20 or more passengers to experience the country's many attractions ranging from diving to surfing.  

Kaloea Surfing Bikini Company has a product that many people didn't know existed - it's a bikini that is designed to stay on while surfing.  To promote the product, the company sends models around to exotic surfing locations around the world.  A few years ago, they started adding drone cameras into the mix, to be able to capture the full picture.  In this video, you'll see the Kaloea Surfer Girls take on the waters of the Maldives, an island archipelago spread out over a largest expanse of the Indian Ocean.  

The Maldives islands in the Indian Ocean are spread out over a long stretch of the sea, yet they collectively only cover about 300 square km (around 115 square mi.).  Nearly a third of the country's 400k+ inhabitants live in the capital city of Malé, which covers just a few square km/mi. in one of the northernmost of the country's atolls.  Perhaps surprisingly, that makes it one of the most densely populated cities on earth.  Check it out from above in this drone video by top contributor seefromthesky.  

The tiny Indian Ocean island nation of the Maldives has a massive advantage in attracting serious resort investment - no other country has so many tiny islands that can be developed into private resorts.  In this excellent drone video by JadFakhry, you'll get a bird's eye view of one of them - the Baros Resort, which is a private luxury island resort in the North Malé archipelago.  As befitting any five-star resort, it has something that no other resort has - a floating piano bar, for those who seek even more seclusion!

The Angsana Velavaru is a luxury resort in the Maldives, the archipelago nation located in the Indian Ocean.  Like many resorts in the Maldives, the Angsana Velavaru features private villas which complete the feeling of being on one's own island.  Top content contributor Veerdonkvisuals, who ventures the world making travel videos, created this spectacular one of this amazing resort.  The video, which combines aerial and ground camera footage, may make you reconsider your next beach vacation. 

One thing which stands out about the Maldives, the archipelago nation in the Indian Ocean, is the sheer geographic extent of the atoll.  While the total land area of the country is modest (in fact, it's the smallest country in Asia), the total area over which they are spread is enormous.  In this video, top contributor Aerial Entertainment Studios showcases nine days worth of drone shooting of some of the most exclusive resorts located in what could accurately be described as, "Paradise on Earth".
