The Best of Mexico by Drone

For a first upload to AirVuz, brand-new contributor opia media lab brings us this phenomenal demo reel from Mexico.  The reel features footage from across the giant country.  Some of the featured locations include Puebla, the second-largest city of colonial Mexico; the great port city of Veracruz; the town of Tepoztlán, south of Mexico City; and the great stratovolcano called Popocatepetl, which is the country's second-highest mountain and has a peak elevation of about 5.4k meters above sea level or around 17.8k ft.  

Two stories come together as one in this exceptional drone reel by award-winning contributor and aerial cinematographer Postandfly. One tells the story of a new drone pilot finding and pursuing his passion and the other tells the story of his love for his homeland, the great nation of Mexico.  The video was shot over half a decade, from many different regions of this magnificent country, and with several types of drones (all DJI models).  This video was one of the first winners of the AirVuz Drone Video of the Week Contest in April, 2018.

AirVuz contributor Postandfly is one of the top aerial videographers in Mexico.  In this beautiful peace, he uses some of his best drone footage to commemorate Mexico's Independence Day on September 16.  The video opens with some excellent shots of Mexico City, followed by a shot from somewhere along Mexico's vast coastlines.  Other highlights include interior mountains, the Angel of Independence Statue in Mexico City, the ruins of Teotihuacan, the waterfall of Tamul, smoking volcanoes, the Sea of Cortez, and more.  

Award-winning contributor created this epic compilation of drone footage from across Mexico, shot with a variety of drones.  Locations include San José de los Laureles in Morelos, Tijuana in Baja California, Oaxaca and Cuilapam in Oaxaca, Acuña in Coahuila, Valle de Bravo in Estado de México, Cueztalan in Puebla, and many more. The opening beach scene is from Manzanillo; this was the filming location for the famous scene in the 1979 movie 10 in which Bo Derek runs down the beach.

Award-winning content creator and pilot Postandfly used a DJI Mavic 3 drone to create this magnificent aerial tour of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula.  Some of the highlights include the beach town of El Cuyo on the Yucatán's northern coastline (at the :15 mark); the colonial city of Valladolid (:27); the city of Izamal, on the Northern Yucatec Plains (:56); the Río Lagartos Lagoon, on the northern coastline (1: 22); Mérida, the largest city on the peninsula (1:45); the shipping village of San Felipe, just west Río Lagartos; and more.  

"El dia de los Muertos" or "Day of the Dead" is an important holiday in Mexican culture; it combines elements of Christian and native rituals.  Top Contributor Face Du Mond traveled to Southern Mexico one October spending time around Quintana Roo, Yucatán and Campeche states.  Using his drone and ground cameras, he created an unforgettable view of Mexico during the period leading up to the holiday (which occurs in early November), capped off by a candlelit Día de Los Muertos celebration.

Check out this outstanding drone video of Monterrey, Mexico, compliments of  contributor thedroneexperience.  The capital of the northeastern city of Nueva Leon, Monterrey is the core of the second-largest metropolitan area in the country after Greater Mexico City.  A major industrial center and one of Mexico's wealthiest cities, Monterrey lies at the foothills of the Sierra Madre Oriental.  The video features footage of sites such as the Monterrey Cathedral and the under-construction Torres Obispado, soon to be Mexico's tallest skyscraper.

Award-winning contributor Postandfly used a DJI Mavic Mini 2 to create this DVOW nominated reel of Mexico's El Chico National Park.  It's located in the state of Hidalgo, about a two-hour drive northeast of Mexico City.   One of the country's first protected areas, El Chico was formally designated as a national park in 1982.  The park is home to some of Mexico's last remaining ancient forest areas.  It lies within the Pachuca Mountains, which form part of the Sierra Madre Oriental chain which runs down much of eastern Mexico.

Award-winning contributor and drone pilot Postandfly used both the Mavic 2 Pro and the Mavic 2 Zoom drones to create this amazing aerial view of  San Miguel de Allende in the state of Guanajuato.  San Miguel is roughly a 3-4 hour drive northwest from Mexico City.  The site of important struggles between the native population and the Spanish conquistadora's in the 16th century, San Miguel de Allende took the #1 spot for two years running on the Travel and Leisure (T+L) list of the world's top 15 cities to visit.

Prepare to be blown away by this magnificent drone video of Mexico's ancient city of Teotihuacan, compliments of award-winning contributor Postandfly.  Located about 40 km (around 25) northeast of central Mexico City, Teotihuacan was the center of a Mesoamerican civilization which pre-dated the Mayan and Aztec civilizations by centuries and the Spanish arrival in the Western Hemisphere by over 1,500 years.  At its height around 500 AD, the city was the largest in the Americas and one of the half-dozen largest in the world.  

Top contributor iDrone Aerials created this epic aerial view of the great ruins of Chichen Itza, on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.  Chichen Itza is believed by archaeologists to have been one of the largest cities in the Mayan civilization.  It is located in the state of Yucatán, one of the three states on the peninsula along with Quintana Roo and Campeche.  It was built beginning in the 7th century.  A UNESCO World Heritage site, the site was recently named one of the new Seven Wonders of the World by the Travel Channel.  

Contributor and pilot Legacy Video used a drone to create this amazing aerial tour of Mazatlan, one of the beach cities along Mexico's Pacific coastline.  Mazatlan is located in the state of Sinaloa.  It is situated roughly a third of the way down the Pacific coast, approximately level with the southern tip of Baja California Peninsula.  Legacy used a DJI Phantom 3 drone to create this video of the city, which was founded by the Spanish in 1531 and is one of the oldest cities on Mexico's west coast.  

Award-winning contributor Postandfly created this magnificent highlight reel of drone footage of Mexico's Baja region, a long peninsula which separates the Pacific Ocean from the Sea of Cortez.  Much of the video is focused on the legendary sea mammal wildlife of the region, so you'll get plenty of aerial views of the dolphins, whales, and sea lions.  In terms of inanimate scenery, you will be able to feast your eyes on numerous sea coves, spectacular rock formations, and legendary beaches that abound on and around the Baja Peninsula.  

Award-winning contributor Postandfly created this stunning drone video descending through the clouds above Acapulco, Mexico.  It's located on a long, shallow Pacific Ocean bay in the state of Guerrero.  One of Mexico's oldest cities, it was founded by Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century.  "Discovered" as a chic beach destination by a number of Hollywood stars beginning in the 1940s, Acapulco became Mexico's first true resort destination. Surrounded by Hills, Acapulco is also a major cruise ship port of call.

Top contributor Postandfly created this stunning drone video of the city of Oaxaca, capital of the state of the same name in Southern Mexico.  The state is considered one of Mexico's great cultural treasures because of its indigenous population, in which at least 16 pre-Columbian tribes have survived and with greater continuity than in other parts of the country.  Located in a mountain valley, Oaxaca was the subject of four of the eight essays in DH Lawrence's travel book Mornings in Mexico (1927).

Top AirVuz content creator and drone pilot Majestic does it again with this stunning aerial portrait of Cancún, Mexico.  The resort city lies on the eastern (Caribbean Sea) side of the Yucatán Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo.  Cancún was virtually unknown until the 1970's, when the Mexican government launched an investment program to create a new planned resort city.  The program was wildly successful, and within a couple of decades the city was the country's top beach destination.  

Award-winning contributor and drone pilot Postandfly gives us this beautiful aerial video of a beach spot in his native state of Oaxaca on Mexico's Pacific coastline.  Zicatela Beach is considered one of the best surfing beaches in the Western Hemisphere.  It's just a short distance from Puerto Escondido, a beach town which is widely considered to be more authentically Oaxacan than Huatulco, the state's other big beach spot which was developed on a large scale basis in a manner similar to Cancun.

Cabo San Lucas is a resort town located at the southern tip of Mexico's Baja Peninsula.  Cabo has something to offer everyone, from beachgoers to kite surfers, fishermen, off-road adventurers, and cruise ship passengers.  Contributor Douglas Thron used a drone to capture Cabo's flavor from a high end resort on the beach.  The bird's eye views of this beach paradise will help you understand why it is one of the most popular vacation spot in a country which is full of world-class beach destinations.

Check out this fantastic drone footage collection from the mountains of northeastern Mexico, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot k2team.mty.  The mountains here are part of the Sierra Madre Oriental, a range which runs down the eastern side of the country, roughly parallel to the Sierra Madre Occidental on the western side.  Extending from the USA border to the great Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt, the peaks of the Sierra Madre Orientals run as high as 3.7k meters above sea level or around 12.1k ft.  

Award-winning contributor Postandfly created this beautiful aerial video of the "ghost town" of Real de Catorce, once one of the great mining towns of Central Mexico.  Situated in the state of San Luis Potosi, it's roughly in the middle of the great triangle formed by Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara.  The town was founded as a result of a large nearby silver discovery in the late 18th century, and at its height, it was one of the biggest sources for the highly silver-dependent Spanish Empire.  

Award-winning contributor Postandfly created this stunning aerial tour of the Mexican state of Chiapas, which won the Drone Video of the Week in July, 2019.  Home to a highly diverse landscape, Chiapas lies in the heart of the old Mayan Empire which covered much of what is now southern Mexico.  Featured locations include San Cristobal de las Casas, the Agua Azul waterfalls, the coffee plantations and the jungle near Tapachula, the Montebello Lakes, the port of Tapachula, Sumidero Canyon, and El Chiflon waterfall. 

Take in these stunning drone views from the Mexican state of Veracruz, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot Vuelta Al Cielo.  One of the 32 states of the Mexican federation, Veracruz is a largely coastal province, running along the southern part of the country's Gulf of Mexico coastline.  The video features an excellent mix of footage from along the state's long coastline, including some shots of coastal shipping traffic and giant bird flocks, as well as some spots on the interior such as the Eyipantla Falls waterfall.  

Isla Mujeres is a long but extremely narrow island which sits off the Caribbean Sea coast of Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula, in the state of Quintana Roo.  The beaches of the island resemble something between nearby Cancun and the Dominican Republic.  Top contributor and pilot Majestic used a DJI Phantom 4 drone to create an unforgettable aerial tour of Isle Mujeres.  In this video you will find views of magically blue water, beach activities, and the party atmosphere of an island paradise.

Contributor and pilot Nomade World used a drone to capture a memorable hike on Pico de Orizaba (Citlaltépetl), otherwise known as the highest mountain in Mexico.  The dormant (but not extinct) volcano is situated on the Trans-Mexican Volcanic belt that defines so much of the geography of the country.  The mountain's peak stands about 5.6k meters (about 18.5k) ft. above sea level, making it the third highest peak in North America.  Orizaba is the world's second most prominent volcanic peak.  

Drone_capodoc created this beautiful drone reel from the Mexican state of Jalisco, mostly shot in its great capital city Guadalajara.  Guadalajara is the center of the second most populous metropolitan area in the country after Mexico City.  A historic city originally founded in the 16th century, it's sprouted more than its share of gleaming skyscrapers and wide freeways, which blend in nicely with its well known churches and public squares.  The video also contains footage of some other spots around the state.

Top contributor Postandfly created this fascinating drone video of one of the geological wonders of Mexico: the Parícutin volcano.  Located in the state of Michoacán, it's one of the world's most famous cinder cone volcanoes, a subtype which arises from eruptions through a single vent that's usually part of a larger volcano.  Parícutin was born in an eruption that began in 1943 and continued for about nine years, although this type of volcano will not erupt again. This video won DVOW in August, 2019.

Award-winning content creator and pilot Poastandfly created this stunning drone video of one of the most pristine beaches on Mexico's western (Pacific Ocean) coastline.  Zipolite Beach is situated in the southern state of Oaxaca. It's about two km (just over a mile) long and only about 40 meters (around 130 ft. wide.  It's one of the more remote beach areas on the country's western coast.  Named as one of Mexico's top beaches by Coastal Living, it's known in part for being the only legal nude beach in Mexico.

Mexico is home to some of the top tourist destinations from USA and Canadian travelers; cities like Cancun, Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas perennially rank amongst the top North American beach destinations. This thirty-second aerial video by Dronismo shows just a few high light shots of two of those destinations, Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. From the high-rise resorts, to top-down shots of catamarans and shoreline, it’s easy to see why so many people vacation there. 

Award-winning contributor Postandfly brings us one of the first videos show with DJI's Mavic Air 2S drone, which was released in April of 2021.  The video was shot over Mexico's Sea of Cortez, which is the body of water separating the Baja Peninsula from the Mexican mainland and which is known in the USA as the Gulf of California.  The video features outstanding footage of a fin whale, three species of dolphins, sea lions black, stingrays and the islands of Espiritu Santo, San José, Las Animas and San Francisquito.

Take a tour of southern Mexico in this fantastic drone travel reel by AirVuz contributor and pilot Vuelta Al Cielo.  Filmed over the course of a year, the video includes footage of the following locations: Villa Allende and Peña Hermosa, in the southern state of Veracruz, the rock monolith Peña de Bernal, in the state of Queretaro; The Montebello Lakes, in the state of Chiapas; Chapultepec Castle in Mexico City; the Velo de Novia Waterfall, in Chiapas; and Roca Partida, Coatzacoalcos, and Jicacal Cascada; and Eyipantla Falls, all in Veracruz. 

Top contributor Barnard Steele created this magnificent sunrise drone video of some of Mexico's most well-known ruins.  The Tulum site is located on the so-called Mayan Riviera, a stretch of beaches and ancient ruins south of Cancun in the Yucatan Peninsula state of Quintana Roo.  Situated on some tall cliffs overlooking the Caribbean Sea, Bjuilt between the 13th-15th centuries, Tulum is one of the best-preserved sites of the Mayan Civilization which ruled over large stretches of the region in Pre-Columbian times.  

Copper Canyon is one of the great natural treasures of Mexico. Situated in the northwestern state of Chihuahua, it's actually a system of six connected canyons formed by six different rivers which drain the nearby mountains into the Gulf of California.  The main canyon is traversed by a railroad, construction of which took over four decades due to the challenging conditions.  Award-winning contributor PostandFly created this incredible drone video of the magnificent canyon and its train line.

Mexico offers a broad range of breathtaking landscapes; fortunately for our AirVuz community, top content creator Postandfly has skillfully captured and shared many of these from above with his drone.  In this impressive DVOW Finalist video, he reveals the seemingly untouched beauty around the municipality of Metztitilán, in the state of Hidalgo in east Mexico.  This area is home to the Barranca de Metzitlán Biosphere Reserve, the states's largest reserve, which contains a variety of ecosystems.

Award-winning content creator and drone pilot Postandfly created this stunning aerial video of a well known lake on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.  It's called Bacalar Lagoon, and the "lagoon" monitor is correct - it's technically not a lake, as it's connected to the Caribbean Sea through the porous limestone that runs through the area.  Lagoon or lake, it's a very long body of water - 42 square km or 16 square mi.  It's near a town of the same name, in the southeastern corner of Mexican Yucatan.  

Huasteca Potosina is one of the natural treasures of Mexico.  Located northeast of Mexico City in the state of San Luis Potosì, it's part of a larger region known as Huastecas which covers parts of several states in east-central Mexico and is named after the Huastec people, who lived in the area in pre-Columbian times.  Top AirVuz contributor and pilot msember spent five days in the region, taking part in many of the outdoor activities the area has to offer and capturing his adventures on video.  

Experience the beauty of western Mexico from above in this fantastic drone video compilation by first-time AirVuz contributor Adam Bartnik.  The video features a great mix of natural and urban scenery along with some excellent action shots and views of Mexico's famous beaches.  Some of the featured locations include the Pacific Ocean beach city of Puerto Vallarta, Tequila (the Jalisco city which gave birth to its namesake beverage), the great city of Guadalajara, the quaint seaside town of Sayulita, Boca de Tomatlan, and Mismaloya.

Top AirVuz contributor Inigui brings us this stunning drone video from a beautiful spot on Mexico's Pacific coastline. The DVOW nominated video was filmed around the town of Conchas Chinas, which is located just south of the great beach city of Puerto Vallarta.  Sometimes called the Beverly Hills of Puerta Vallarta, Conchas Chinas takes its name from distinctive looking type of shell which is found on its beaches.  Located in the state of Jalisco, it's part-time residents include many movie stars and other international luminaries.  

In this video, Postandfly gives us a bird's eye view of Tijuana, the largest city on Mexico's western coasts.  It's the largest city in the state of Baja California, which extends from the US border to Cabo St. Lucas at the tip of the BC peninsula.  Tijuana is one of the major manufacturing centers of Mexico, and is home to many maquiladora factories.  Most of the video's footage is shot around the city's Pacific Ocean beach coastline.  He also gets some good shots of the giant Plaza Monumental arena.

Many of the most beautiful sights of Mexico are on its coastlines. The country is blessed with thousands of km/mi of epic beaches along the Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea.  In this amazing drone video by top AirVuz contributor iamdelpaso, you'll get some amazing bird's eye views of some Mexico's most well-known coastal spots: Puerto Vallarta, Rosarito (Baja California), Riviera Nayarit (north of Puerto Vallarta), Chetulam, Bacalar, Boca de Timatlán, Sayulita, Mahahual, and more.
