Sorano and Pitigliano Tuff Towns of Maremma

Former Drone Video of the Week Winner Enrico Pescantini brings us this stunning drone video from two of Italy's famous "tuff" towns - settlements built into tuff, a stone made of volcanic ash which has solidified. The near-adjacent towns are situated in Grosseto, the southernmost province of the region of Tuscany. Sorano, the first town shown, is visually distinguished by its medieval fortress, while Pitigliano (distinguished by its tall bell tower) is known as Little Jerusalem due to its once significant Jewish population.

Carved from volcanic stones, the towns of Sorano and Pitigliano are ancient settlements in Maremma, the southern part of Tuscany. They are called "borghi del tufo", since theu have been built from a volcanic stone called "tuff". Pitigliano, in particular, is also called Little Jerusalem. With small houses made of tuff and narrow alleys, it got its name from the jewish community that lived peacefully here in the past centuries. The music is an homage to this Jewish heritage and it is "MIQEDEM - Psalm 23 (Live in Studio) תהילים כ״ג", all rights to the rightful owners.
