A cloudy winters morning greeted us at Bribie Island north & Golden Beach Caloundra.

Eddie the Eagle nests atop the shipping light beacon tower which was abandoned in 2018.

The video finishes with imagery of 2 wild pelicans on Pumicestone Passage..

The power of Mother Nature shows the ocean & tides totally changing a marine landscape.

Pumicestone Passage has undergone a major & rapid transformation of its northern seaway entrance to the Pacific Ocean. In early January 2022, the arrival of Cyclone Seth off the coast created massive swells, and together with king tides, a breakthrough occurred to the northern Bribie Island isthmus. And now, 2.5 years later, there is an entirely new sea entrance which is over 1km metres wide. This transition has also stopped tidal flow through the previous entrance at Caloundra to the north, with sand bars now blocking this seaway to vessels. Over time the entrance will eventually move back to the original location next to the Caloundra township.

Bribie Island is the smallest and most northerly of three major sand islands forming the coastline that shelters the northern part of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. The others are Moreton Island and North Stradbroke Island. Bribie Island is 34 kilometres (22 miles) long, and 8 kilometres (5 miles) at its widest. Bribie Island hugs the coastline and tapers to a long spit at its most northern point near Caloundra, and is separated from the mainland by Pumicestone Passage. The ocean side of the island is somewhat sheltered from prevailing winds by Moreton Island and associated sand banks and has only a small surf break. The lee side is calm, with white sandy beaches in the south.

Most of the island is uninhabited national park (55.8 square kilometres or 22 square miles) and pine forestry plantations. Pumicestone Passage is a 35 kilometre ecological marvel and a waterway wonderland of fun, from its northern mouth opening into the ocean off the Caloundra coastline, to its southern end filtering into Deception Bay.

I took a small tinnie runabout to the leeward side of Bribie Island to capture the island footage.
