SS Palo Alto Concrete World War 1 Ship
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
The SS Palo Alto was a World War I era tanker which actually wasn't launched until 1919, after the cessation of hostilities. The ship was placed off the coast of Seacliff State Beach on Monterrey Bay in Northern California (about 90 minutes south of San Francisco) in 1929, following which a pier was built linking the ship to the shore to create a small amusement park. The pier was subsequently dismantled and the ship was damaged by storm. Currently closed to the public, you can check it out from above in this drone video by travispacheco.

The SS Palo Alto was launched on 29 May 1919, too late to see service in the war. Palo Alto was mothballed in Oakland until 1929, when she was bought by the Seacliff Amusement Corporation and towed to Seacliff State Beach in Aptos, California. The company went bankrupt two years later during the Great Depression, and the ship cracked at the midsection during a winter storm. She was used as a recreational fishing pier before deteriorating into complete disrepair.
