Ruins of our Past

We fly through the 1000 year old ruins of Waverley Abbey. This shot was created using two drones following one another.
 The first was covered in 12v LED lights running in parallel off of a separate battery using a 3d printed design which cast the light away from the drone.

 The second was a MantaRay cinelifter carrying a Naked Black Magic using a Laowa 7.5mm lens shot at F/2.0, 3200ISO. The shot provided challenging, mainly surrounding the lack of vision on the fpv feed due to the darkness. A previous attempt the week before had resulted in a broken camera. After a redesign and changes to the LED's we were able to complete the shot. We initially repeatedly flew the route in the day until we could do it via memory. The most challenging parts where when the LED drone went out of frame and the camera drone was plunged into total darkness with limited visual references to keep the footage stable, it proved for a new experience which pushed our technical and piloting ability. A special thanks to Matt Keogh who managed turn my terrible design sketches for the 3d light mounts into a working model as well as flying the LED drone so well.
