Novo-Ryazan Thermal Power Plant

The Novo-Ryazan Thermal Power Plant is located in the town of Novomichurinsk in the Ryazan Oblast, about 285 km (around 170 mi.) southeast of Moscow. It's powered by a type of low-grade coal called lignite. With a rated capacity of about 3.1 gigawatts, the plant is the country's fifth-largest electricity generating station. Commissioned in 1971, its 320 meter (1.05k ft.) chimney is one of the world's tallest.

Novo-Ryazan Thermal Power Plant is the largest producer of thermal and electric energy in Ryazan. The great social significance of a thermal power plant is determined by its share in providing the regional center with thermal energy - a thermal power plant supplies heat and hot water to more than 60 percent of the housing and communal sector of the city of Ryazan. The main type of fuel used at the CHPP is natural gas. During peak heat loads during the heating season, heating oil can be used as backup fuel. The installed electric capacity of the station is 430 MW, the installed heat capacity is 1458.26 Gcal / h. The height of the highest chimney is 220 meters, the height of the cooling towers is about 30 meters.
