Mirjan Fort
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Mirjan Fort is a historic landmark in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. Seen in this drone video by AirVuz contributor Amith, it's situated on the Aganashini River just a few mi./km from its mouth on the Arabian Sea, a bit south of Karnataka's border with its neighboring state of Goa. While there is some uncertainty about the early history of the site, the most widely-accepted version credits its construction to Queen Rani Chennabhairadevi, who ruled the area when it was a province of Vijayanagara Empire in the late 16th century.

Aerial visuals of Mirjan Fort, near Kumta, Karnataka, India. The fort is located on the banks of the Aganashini River, and is built over an area of 10 acres. It is known for its architectural elegance and was the location of several battles in the past. The fort has four entrances (one main and three subsidiary entrances) and many wells. A circular moat once fully surrounded the fort. While there are many stories about its history, the most popular one is that the fort was built initially by Queen Chennabhairadevi between 1552–1606. She was from the Tuluva-Saluva clan and ruled as the queen of Gersoppa for 54 years, under the protection of the Vijayanagara Empire (the queen preferred to be subordinate of Vijayanagar rulers). She devoutly practiced Jainism, and during her rule constructed many Jain basadis.
