The Mamanguá region is an indentation of the sea in the bay of Angra dos Reis, in the municipality of Paraty, Rio de Janeiro. It is known as the only tropical fjord in Brazil. It is 8 kilometers long and 2 kilometers wide. It ends in a magnificent mangrove with an incredible biodiversity of the Atlantic Forest, like the bromelias shown in the video. Saco do Mamanguá bathes a huge environmental reserve (Cairuçu Environmental Protection Area) that can only be accessed by trails or boats. The protected region also has 10 rivers, 30 beaches and dozens of waterfalls hidden among the forests. There are some houses of caiçaras and vacationers built before the creation of the reserve. This is where several species of turtles, fish, seahorses and dolphins live. However, the biggest attraction only appears after dark, with total absence of light. The plankton in the water, when agitated, glow fluorescent like aquatic fireflies. The success of the preservation of the place is due to the efforts of the inhabitants of the caiçaras communities, the only inhabitants of the region, and environmentalists.
