The trip was through a portion of the Kangra Valley, which is part of the Western Himlayas in the state of Himchal Pradesh. The specific route covered ran from the village of Rajgundha Village (near the town of Bir) to Thamsar Pass. The valley runs from the foot of the Dhauladhar (also known as the White Mountains), which form part of the Lower Himalayan Range.
