Brașov County lies in the southeastern part of Transylvania, which has only been part of Romania for about a century (prior to World War I, it was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire). Holbav lies near the foot of the Southern Carpathian Mountains, about a half hour drive west-northwest of the city of Brașov.
