HUNANCHI: VALLEY OF THE SACRED EMBLEM

After approximately 4 hours of hiking, Quilico reached the Hunanchi valley. Located in South Central Cajas National Park. Its 17 water bodies are an important tributary for the Yanuncay River sub-basin. The term Hunanchi comes from the word Kichwa “Unancha”, whose meaning is related to a sacred symbol or emblem for the Andean cosmovision. The geomorphology of the mountainous walls that make up this valley is what calls our attention to its passage, because rocky walls and rugged peaks, whose glacial heritage has given rise to unusual formations that, according to the angle that can be seen, may be associated with representations of recognizable forms. To cite a couple, we can find the peak of Loro-Urko (parrot beak shaped) or the mushroom-shaped stone called the "Kallamba-Rumi".
